On the score cards probably but in the fight did he dominate the fight, Gvoz was old, retired for a while, fought a few scrubs for his comeback, first real fight in 5 years, David was supposed to be a killer, he should have wiped the floor with Gvoz and that didnt happen. He has no power at 175 and his stamina was also missing and that is supposed to be one of his main attributes is high output. If he was fighting bivol or arthur he would be in trouble.
I mean hell from that fight i think he looses to a 34 year old Gvoz
Forget the scorecards. Watch the fight lol
With that said, Morrell didn't look all that either in his fight.
He dominated Gvozdyk 9-3, 8-4 at worst

Aside from their respective fan bases and TV commentators who are essentially casuals or speaking what the promotional companies want them to say, there aren't any serious people out there saying that Morrell is the next SRR or that Benavidez is superhuman lol. People here are so silly. They are excellent fighters who've beaten some very decent competition, Benavidez a bit more than Morrell.
The truth is Morrell has the edge in skills and speed, but Benavidez has proven to have a great chin, including at 175 pounds. If Morrell ends up getting tired he is definitely losing, either by stoppage or decision. If he is able to catch a second wind, we will have quite a contest, and I predict he would ultimately decision Benavidez, making him miss a lot. I don't usually pick Cuban boxers because they think they're, as we say in Puerto Rico, the last Cola-Cola in the desert, but I think Morell will pull it out, following the playbook offered by Plant. But I would not bet on it.
I believe Benavidez is the real deal and if Morrell beats him, then the Cuban is something special. If Morrell loses, then we can safely say that the hype train has hit a wall.
I give the edge to Morrell, most likely on points in a fight that doesn't really live up to the hype.
I think he has the power (or enough) and the gas tank that Plant never which allowed let him get overwhelmed. I don't think Morrell will have that problem.
I feel Morrell hasn't shown a lot of his arsenal in the pro ranks he has been an offensive machine but the kid can do it all. I suspect he'll opt to box and utilise a lot more lateral movement in this one and keep turning Benavidez, keeping him off balance, not standing in front of Benavidez and letting him rattle off fives and sixes. I think he has everything needed to avoid this.
Morrell points but I also wouldn't be shocked at all if Benavidez got his clock cleaned either while I think his guard is quite solid for most part there are times he leaves himself horribly open. Especially lunging in and dropping his right hand almost behind him while throwing the left hook - You might get away with that bs against small, orthodox guys who can't crack eggs but against a hard hitting, accurate southpaw, that is very very dangerous. Gvodyk caught him a few times like this with a right hand iirc though not clean, Morrell being a southpaw the angle is different and Benavidez will leave himself wide open to the backhand and its not like it'll take much to put him on his ass as he squares up.
Did Benny look good against an old 40 year old shopworn Gvodzyk ???
There is a reason why a fighter with 11 fights is stepping up to him , what about just that for hype
Maybe it also has something to do with his amateur pedigree
Just sayin’
He dominated Gvozdyk 9-3, 8-4 at worst
Govzdyk had just turned 37 and I have never heard of a fighter with 20 pro fights being shop worn. Keep trolling though.
Your right , he’s in his prime
lmFao
Keep sucking though
Good look for you
I would have to watch Morrel fight, i havent watched any of his fights and havent gotten around to it.
Benavidez didnt look so great with Plant and Gvozdyk. Yeah he got the win but he should have demolished those guys if he was what they said he was.
You must spend a lot of time looking at the promotional hype machines.
I have no idea what a promotional hype machine is.
In either case, I believe Morrell could be "it," but I also realize that I am often mistaken.

I'm not talking about the Boxing Scene vacuum. Go anywhere else on the internet, and Morrell is a "phenom" being avoided by everyone.
You must spend a lot of time looking at the promotional hype machines. Everyone with an upcoming fight is a phenom, and being ducked, especially if they're undefeated. In Morrell's case, that was absolutely true at 168. There were a ton of fighters turning down contracts to fight him. But that doesn't mean he's the next coming. Just means he's skilled and powerful enough to leave undefeated contenders in a coma, and not many people want to risk that for not much money.
Don't know why you think people are hyping Morrell up that much.
