when you think of garbage think of akeem! when you think of hypejob think of munguia!
every opponent he fights is carefully selected and the only ranked guys he actually fought were very very carefully picked. in 6 and a half years he has beaten 4 top 10 opponents. for comparisons sake tank has beaten 4 top 10 ranked opponents in 7 and a half years and hes laughed at universally.
munguia also has gotten gift decisions against unranked guys like dennis hogan and dervychenko moving up in weight. now he got ko'd by the french paulie malignaggi. embarrassing.
As for the 4 ranked guys he beat they were sadam ali with a grand total of 1 fight at 154 which was cottos last career fight, liam smith who was a good quality fighter, ryder who had lost 2 of 3 going into the fight(canelo and the jacobs fight was a bad decision) and bazinyan who also completely robbed his opponent in the fight before fighting munguia.
To preserve his marketing magic he also turned down fights against andrade and janik.
I think GBP and Zanfer did an excellent job navigating his career. Cotto was supposed to beat Ali but he was entirely too shopworn at that point. Ali was supposed to beat Munguia (who had buzz for being turned down as an opponent for GGG) but Ali wasn't good enough to overcome the size and aggression of the Mexican brawler.
Munguia gets a title and now he becomes an asset. I still have no idea how he beat Smith (maybe his best legitimate win?) but Inoue and Hogan happened and they realized they needed to be very careful. We got Spike O'Sullivan and Kamil Szeremeta level opponents or faded names like Ryder and Deveryenchenko.
He was being pushed as an opponent and heir apparent to Canelo very early after his win against Ali but the development as a fighter never fully happened. He got better but still used his face to catch punches. He finally cashed in with a Canelo.figjt when Alvarez ran out of beatable, marketable opponents.
Against Bazinyan, we saw warning signs and the Frenchman finally exposed it.

None of those were “gift” decisions. Quit making up dumb shyte to fit your agenda. Plenty enough facts to do that in this instance.
There’s a reason why Oscar kept him away from quality opposition. Oscar knows the goods when he sees it and it ain’t Mungia.
he had enough hype in the boxing world to get a canelo fight even though he did very very little for 6 years straight. that should have been a red flag but instead it was a green flag for you have to fight this guy he keeps winning! although he had dubious decisions along the way, canelo jumped on the chance, wouldnt jump on benavidez though
That wasnt munguias hype that was canelo being very selective with his opponent selection
I don't think he was hyped up. He was always what he showed. A vulnerable exciting fighter. Not much more or less.
In a way, this situation felt oddly similar to THE TIJUANA TORNADO. Although Jaime was having a hometown welcoming fight and it was supposed to be an easy, exciting win to boost his stock further with the Mexican folks, who else remembers Margacheato coming out like a Mexican hero in his ring walk to face Shane Mosley at the Staples Center? Fresh off his Cotto win, the Mexican fans PACKED that arena. He was supposed to take out the older Mosley and continue looking like Mexico's new greatest hero. Instead, he gets dominated from pillar to pillar and eventually knocked out.
bruno was also moving up in weight just in case something like this happened they thought munguia would be ok...he was not ok. its like one of tanks bum opponents who is moving up knocking him out. i guess it could happen and tank should be given more credit after all? lol
Boxing is the theater of the unknown. It takes only one shot to change things and the fighter believing in himself. Same thing happened to Kirkland when he got KOed by that Japanese guy that had no power.
Cherry pick gone wrong. Bruno's list of opponents is super weak and should had more KO in his record. Jamie was carefully matched and got a surprise.
Hypejob is reserved more for guys like spencerina and stank.
Munguia was always an extremely limited fighter and everyone knew it. There certainly is no hype around him prior to the ko loss.
i think you are right on the boxing forums online, but if you zoom out, the casual viewer doesnt know the difference between benavidez and munguia. thats why canelo fought munguia. oh he has some hype and he sucks. i will fight him. yeah everyone on the forums knows im ducking but i will simply ignore them
The only people who thought Munguía was all that are the few desperate Canelo fans trying hard to justify Canelo and his ducking of his real mandatories.
Who ever hyped him up though?? lol. Hes always been a defenseless face first volume puncher that was going to meet his fate sooner or later. Just nobody guessed it would be a frenchie with 4 kos to be the one to do it.

They brought in Bruno with a low KO record to be a victim and it back fired. They didn't know that he is physically stronger than his 4 KOes showed. Further proof that Canelo carried Munguia and before the Canelo fight I thought Munguia would beat Berlanga and afterwards I don't think so.
It reflects also that Canelo is going with the safe undefeated opponents instead of challenging himself.

As much as we as a group rarely agree on anything for the past many years, I think the only time we had a majority census agreement was on the belief that Jamie Munguia was an extremely protected, highly overrated, almost bumass fighter
The topic of Jamie Munguia being a bum even brought some enemies together in this forum lol
