He's never lost to Mexican in the ring. And we all know how deep the Mexican-Puerto Rican rivalry is. Should every Mexican fighter be calling him Papá?

My mistake then, I thought he was born in the states with his origins bring traced to Puerto Rico like let's say Danny Garcia, Carlos Ortiz and Shakur Stevenson.
But as far as I am reading, looks like that's not his background, seems like he faired well against Wilfredo Gomez apperantly.
He did alright at first but Gomez was on a tear when he was coming up. My father would look back on his fights and swear he was coked up in those days occasionally. I can think of a couple instances throughout his career where his opponent is clearly defenseless, the ref has stepped in and Gomez wants to continue swinging at the poor guy. The only way you could beat Gomez was putting him out, otherwise he would just keep coming. Nobody that follows boxing questions his heart.
Is TS the black guy who's obsessed with Mexicans. Word is he tried picking up a Mexican chick but he failed so he was forced to settle for his sistah now he's on a mission to bash hate and destroy any Mexican in his path.
Rocky Lockridge wasn’t Puerto Rican. Did I miss something?
Otherwise, solid post.

I voted No, not because his victories shouldn't be acknowledged in the rivalry (they do), but rather because the most recognizable Mexican champ he had beaten was Yori Boy Campas and perhaps some ranked contenders from Mexico if I checked his resume more in depth.
Both Vargas and ODLH are stated to be American in this thread, with the latter's loss being controversial.
Chavez also has a good streak beating Puerto Ricans (Angel Hernandez, Sammy Fuentes, Rocky Lockridge, Juan Laporte, Edwin Rosario and Hector Camacho)
and has not been defeated by one either, though I wouldn't call him the "The True Papa of Puerto Rican Boxing".

I read that in a hillbilly accent since your "Papa" didn't have a tilde in it.

I love watching Trinidad fight, but a lot of folks would say he should have lost to Oscar, had Oscar not run the final rds. Granted, he still got the W, so there's that. I don't know, 1 man alone isn't enough to rule over another, but he had great accomplishments. Considering the size of the island compared to Mexico, it's quite astonishing.
I watched that fight live on TV. I thought Oscar was very clearly ahead in the fight. As I watched him literally give away the final rounds, I still thought he had done just enough; but it didn’t shock me when the judges’ scores came back. That had to be one of the worst strategical mistakes I’ve ever seen in any sport, right up there with the Seahawks’ decision to pass from the one-yard line in Super Bowl XLIX. Just head-scratching. Yeah, Tito got the W; but, to this day, no one seems to believe he actually deserved it.
Not as often as I'm on your mom.
Joe Cortez: “TIME!”
*Hands on hips*
Joe Cortez: “That’s a warning! Keep ‘em up! When I say ‘break clean’, ‘break clean’! Let’s go, guys! TIME IN!”
*Waves fighters back in*

Hoya's been known to wear a sombrero (among other things) from time to time but he was actually born in California. I believe he fought for US Olympic team in the early 90's, and did fairly well if I remember correctly.

AI is crazy. I just seen a tik tok the other day. It mentioned a fascinating statistic about the fatherless being obsessed with words such as papa, dad, and daddy.
tik tok? Sounds like a kids app. How often are you on there?
