I'm interested to see what y'all definitions of casuals vs hard-core boxing fans are.
For example, would a casual block out time on his/her schedule specifically to catch the live coverage of the Fisher vs Babic fight?
I say no.
Would a casual know who William Zepeda is? Alexis Rocha? Brandun Lee?
I say no, nyet, nein.
Who is the most obscure fighter a typical casual fan would know by name recognition?
Finally, is there a reasonable category of fan interest between casual and hard-core?

I know people who know most every player in the NFL. They know their stats and tendencies. That dont mean they can apply to be a coach in the NFL. Theirs levels in all the games. Most fans are casuals INCLUDING some ex-boxers. Not everyone understands the game in depth.
diminishing returns and low roi on being a hardcore fan
You do not want to be the boxing fan version of those dorks who dedicate full weekends to football
look at who attends fights live ringside. oftentimes rich nigg@s will show up for only the main event and not even bother with the co-main
I used to be a hard-core fan. Now boxing is so boring. No one fights anyone. Boxers are scared to talk shlt to each other. They're scared to lose their "0".
So I guess I'm a casual now because I don't know any boxers besides the big names
My brother and good friend are casuals. They will get PPVs if it's a big name or they are having a house party. They may watch a card on ESPN if they come across it while looking for something to watch.
There are others casuals who only follow one fighter or one promoter. They may know everything about one fighter or promotion but that's it and whoever they follow can do no wrong.
We get that kind here on NSB quite often ...
Every time you post I have to google things like "slag off" just to know wtf you are talking about.
They stopped teaching proper English over there?
there is no such ting as 'proper english'
casuals: only slag off fighters from one country or region
hardcore: slags off all fighters not from their country

Anyone I see posting on a random Wed nite Probox fight card thread I consider a hardcore fan ,............I’d consider myself a casual fan
too many fighters to keep up with all of them
Casual- those who only care about the whether "their guy" wins regardless of opponent level or the actual quality of the match itself. Don't really care about others not "their guy" Losing leaves a severe drop in the worth of "their guy" in many cases.
Hardcore- care more about the quality and contents of the match, and will still follow boxers that they aren't a personal fan of if the matchup is deemed good. Cares about the quality of the match itself and will be willing to follow after a tough loss as well.
There's gotta be something in-between, though.
Some of the cards on DAZN from obscure promotions in Berlin, Kazakhstan, and elsewhere are dreadful to watch. I almost always have a look but I don't always stick around and watch them all the way through.
I'll tune in to the OTX shows and other regional promotions that often showcase fighters with real potential in 4 and 6 rounders.
Of course, there is an in-between. It all depends on each person and how much actual time they can dedicate or want to dedicate following the sport.
These days, watching boxing has become much harder to do. When I was younger, I got my fill watching "Tuesday Night Fights" on USA cable channel, HBO
, then Showtime.
Nowadays, its mostly You-tube. I have the ESPN app just for Inoue fights though LOL. Watching at live events in different cities is also very fun and memorable.
