I love on a boxing site you cannot even say Bowes first name. I get you do not want people calling each other names etc but wow…
It's pretty strange for sure.
Jew is stricken (J-e-w). That being a redacted word is itself more offensive than having no redaction at all.
Gerry Quarry is one that comes to mind. He and his boxing brothers all suffered greatly from the tolls of boxing. Jerry and his brother Mike suffered from pugilistic dementia and died premature deaths (in their 50s) related to that affliction. A third brother Bobby, who also boxed, was diagnosed with Alzheimer's.
Boxing is an incredibly unforgiving sport and business...
Parkinsons is predominantly genetic, not lifestyle. , aka, getting punched in the face.
The docs treating ali came to this conclusion
“Head trauma is a known risk factor for the later onset of idiopathic Parkinson’s disease; however, a causative association in the Ali case cannot be determined.”
same as ali as far as i can read
small bit of reading that is
do u think either one or both would be the same way without boxing?

The one I was sure would become brain-damaged is Andrew Golota. But if one watches his current state, he looks pretty good.

On the other hand, George Chuvalo was considered for decades an incredible example of toughness without apparent damage. But, in the end, he too succumbed to dementia. The following is an article about him from last year:

Nick Blackwell is in real bad shape mentally
He had two comas in the space of a few months, the second one because he sparred shortly after having been saved from the first...
I remember when ESPN added Iran Barkley to their commentary team not too many years ago. It was sad to watch, he had been long gone prior to hiring him. I saw him at a IBHOF weekend and got an autograph, he was glassy eyed and obviously brain damaged at that time.
Which is particularly depressing for yours truly, as The Blade is one of my all-time favorites.
"Ain't got time to bleed", as told to his corner men just before knocking Hearns out, remains one hell of a quote :lol1:
