They chose to wait, marinate and milk everything they could out of a potential fight.
Then Usyk came along, took their belts and beat them both. Leaving a fight between the two worth far less than it could’ve been.
I hope other fighters take note.
- - AJ doing just fine fighting the best and unifying the division still #2 rated heavy on Boxrec after doing detonations on Francis and Wallin who exposed Blubber for the fraud that he'd become.
Nice jiggly rack though, so Big Boy like Flubber has a future in the topless industry!!!
AJ was taken to school by a cruiserweight
If you had told me in 2017 that Usyk was goign to come up to heavyweight, come in at 220 pounds and some change and fuk up AJ and Fury I would have never believed you

You don't think the promoters having the ability to say the first undisputed fight in the HW division featuring both fighters from England would sell any more tickets?
That sounds like I disagree but I don't, I'm genuinely asking.
I agree that the fight would've been bigger, but it hasn't been devalued to the point that it shouldn't happen at all...which the OP is almost implying. There are precious few match-ups that could headline Wembley, and I think AJ/Fury is still one of them. Fury did a decent job against Usyk, and AJ has gradually restored his reputation. All I'm saying is that AJ/Wilder has been damaged far worse than AJ/Fury. AJ/Wilder could've realistically fought for Undisputed, whereas Fury's rematch clauses have prevented that match-up from becoming a reality. If Fury had beaten Usyk, he was still bound to a rematch...just like he was vs. Wilder. Even the AJ/Wilder match-up can be resuscitated if Wilder manages to pull off the upset against Zhang. Top fighters are always one great performance away.
Before the Joshua fight Usyk never looked like a guy who would really be all that great at heavyweight.
I still had him beating AJ. Got the slips to prove it too :lol1:
I dunno, the English really love their losers.
I think it generates about 50% of what it once could have. Will still be multi-millions but it won’t be the mega fight it could’ve been.
I don't think Fury can. It was a close fight but idk. I don't see it.
For all of Fury's faults, he does have a high boxing IQ and is a boxing historian. The motivation of a loss may do him good. Everybody thought his strategy for Wilder 2 was crazy, but it worked to a T and he put a beat down on Wilder. Usyk won both his fights vs Joshua, but the 2nd was definitely closer and more difficult for Usyk. I can definitely see a scenario where Fury makes a few adjustments (more fighting in the center of the ring, more clinching and leaning on the inside, escaping to the left to avoid Usyk's left hook etc) and can certainly win a rematch. Hell, I thought the fight was won for Fury after the 6th or 7th, so Fury winning a rematch would not shock me at all.
Juanma had such a short shelf-life. Those fights with Siri literally shattered him. To see a fighter literally get the prime beaten out of him was sort of disturbing.
I liked Juanma Lopez but yeah he was a very flawed fighter, his fight with Rogers Mtagwa let me know his ceiling, he got beat up badly in that fight.
I remember when he signed to fight Salido, and I said Salido had a good chance, and a certain know it all poster who still posts the same way to this day (I won't name and shame :lol1:) was telling me how much of a mismatch it was. I just didn't see it, for me, Salido was BY FAR the more skilled fighter of the two, and it showed in both fights.
That second fight especially was awesome because Juanma did make some adjustments, which I didn't expect but in the end it went the same way, but what a fight though.
Yuriokis Gamboa vs Juanma Lopez.
Anyone remember when they tried to "marinate" that fight? Then Lopez got battered by Salido in what was meant to be an easy fight.
This marinating and "building" ruins the sport. Back in the "good old days", when we wanted to see two fighters fight, they fought, pretty much straight away.

Hell, remember AJ was going to destroy Usyk because of what he did to Pulev :lol1:

Joshua KO'd Heleinus and Ngannou! He definitely won't have a brain malfunction again the next time he gets hit by a punch from a top 15 opponent.

Who are you to talk though?
You said James Toney would "walk down, dominate, and knock out" a prime AJ and Toney can't even beat the likes of Sam Peter and Hasim Rahman at that weight and barely beat Fres Oquendo :lol1:
So you've got no leg to stand on really.
Plus once they beat a domestic level guy after taking a loss they get pushed as being an improved fighter and the vast majority of the country believes it.

If Fury beat Usyk in a rematch and Joshua doesn't lose in the meantime, it will be just as big as ever

"Did I just get knocked down by a middleweight?"
