Not talking about judges but between fighters.
Are some nations more prone to it than others? We just had a fight discussed where a former WC lost to someone with 4 fights, and made no real effort to hurt him.
So that sparked my interest in the question.
2-5%?
I think it's very rare.
More common is things such as wining and dining referees and judges and maintaining good relationships with them. Promoters will take referees out for fancy meals, put them up in luxury hotels etc so you know they are gonna favour a certain fighter because they want to be staying in the Hilton luxury suite again next time and flying Emirates first class!
A lot of times if the away fighter isn't wealthy, their travel arrangements are taken care of by the main fight promoter, the klitschkos were known for booking opponents into hotel rooms opposite a noisy construction site and things like this, anything to get an edge.
Additionally you get fighters who are just turning up for a paycheck, don't belive they can win and don't try to win, that happens all the time.
But as far as getting money to lay down, I don't think it's super common because usually, if fighting someone who has the financial clout to do that, the guy being offered it can make more money by winning.
Construction sites are quiet at night
Boxing until the bodies takes over kind of features fixed fights as a main stay and I'd go as far to say it was common practice and open secret until around the time black men started to challenge white men regularly.
I think it is rational to believe the industry didn't stop but rather took pains to hide it.
Especially since as soon as inclusive boxing starts so does disputed champions, buying ranks and belts, and promoters' marinations.
Boxing invented WWE and in fact if you want to go pre-greek with it, that's all you have record of. Planned, fixed, events that put over Pharoah.
I'd assume it's about even with PEDs.
Hmmmmm. Dude.
How do you know?
You're reading Bigfoot / UFO conspiracy theorists all over this thread and ask ME how I know?
53 years in the business.
THINK how much money it would take to get YOU to permanently end YOUR career, and risk prison, and do the math.
Very, very rare.
Look at that recent Ramirez fight a robbery and I was rooting for him. There was another recent robbery with that Hitchens fight. This happens too often.
How many fights at the pro level are fixed in advance?
A lot more than fights that are fixed afterwards.
Really, though, I tend to think it's kinda common that either one or more judges or the ref are paid for. Or else, they fix it for their own bets. Boxing judging and reffing is just too terrible sometimes to be explained by incompetence alone.
I have seen some obvious dives in fights too, but I can't say whether it's because the fighters are paid for (prob) or because they suck and wants to go home (maybe).
i remember the vlad haye matchup
vlad sent david down some narrow walkway on his ringwalk right beside the crowd who were literally tripping him on his way down to the ring, i didnt know at the time but haye had a sore swollen pinky toe as well lol
vlad came down some big walkway no bother at all, funny stuff
It sort of went a bit under the radar but yeah Berne Bonte who ran K2 promotions was always looking for every little niggly thing he could find to add annoyance or unsettle the away fighter, it kind of culminised in the bouncy castle ring they tried to use for the fury fight which they used because they knew Wlad was a lot more flat footed than Fury
Makes me wonder what else there was that we didn't hear about during lads reign, I actually want to go rewatch the Haye fight to see if they used it in that lol.
Any time it takes forever for the scorecards to be tallied, I get wary. Why is it taking you so long to add up a scorecard, something that you are getting paid to do and have had previous experience in doing?
zero to none!! at this pro level, do you know the amount of trouble one could face for "fixing" fights... judges may be influenced to score higher for a certain fighter for whatever reason, but to say fights are fixed, no way!!!
I think it's very rare.

I think a lot of fights are influenced. To fix a fight everyone has got to be in on it even the guy scripted to lose. The first 2 Canelo / Golovkin fights were influenced. Rolly's fights with Marinez and Barroso were influenced, Loma /Haney was influenced, imo. I think judges are sometimes advised to give rounds to a certain fighter
Sports gambling among pro athletes are on the rise due to easy access to online betting sites. Have your trusted mama or sibling place the bet for you like who the fuk is going to find out. Good thing about Boxing is that fighters can bet on themselves legally in Vegas lol.
I would say that big time athletes aren’t going to risk it, they dont need to, but the low to mid level guys can surely use some easy, extra cash. I mean why the fuk not.
That's a naive perspective. Sonny liston got entangled with the maffia and had no choice, supposedly.
I just said it's not super common and you pointed out one fight in the 50s.
I didn't say it never happens.
Not sure but if you count stuff like one of 3 judges getting bought out or the ref being told that he should favour a certain fighter- a lot.
Even in high level fights refs are clearly bought/corrupted somehow to favour a certain fighter. Floyd/HFloon and Haney/Garcia good examples of this.
Watch Tyson-Ruddock 1. Tyson just lands a few big shots and the ref stops the fight. Tyson had a lot of those... Ribalta fight the same.
You don't stop a fight because the other guy "probably would have won"

if fighting someone who has the financial clout to do that, the guy being offered it can make more money by winning.
He makes less. But the guy setting it up makes 10X more by betting on an underdog.
