“but but he defeated a champion at 140 brooo” yeah a champion at 140 not at 143. There’s a reason he didn’t win that title, no matter how much he wants to yap. Haney is a glass jawed pillow fist, and even HE managed to rock ryan glassia.
He doesn’t have the dedication, work ethnic, nor mental toughness to win a high profile devision or an impressive stoppage. Move up to 147? boots and ortiz will starch him. By his very own admission, he cannot make 140 anymore and is going to welterweight.
Floyd, DLH, Pac, all these guys were PFP by the time they are ryan’s age. The only reason ryan is famous is because he has a genetically gifted face, having a robust face while having perfect prettyboy features. That’s it. This man is quite literally given undeserving shots against davis and haney because of his looks.
He has talent, sure (good power and speed) but it doesn’t translate to skill. No jab, turns around when he gets hit.
Best case scenario, he wins a paper belt.
So Devin being #2 & a legit champ & not a paper champ makes him a top dog but not a top dawg???
You got A LOT of rules & unique definitions bruh. I'd argue this is partially why casual fan interest sucked for yrs til recently with novelty boxers & Turki just going for fan approval & wishes over belt, ratings & various other insanities us hardcore fans are married to imo.
Nope. He’s one of them but not the top dog at 140, 135, nor 143.
Teofimo, Tank, Stevenson, Mattias, are the e real top dogs
So Haney himself was a paper champ who turned himself into a legit champ? Thats fair. Too involved for me to always be measuring, but fair. I'll stick with my Ricky Bobby take of "if you aren't first, you're last".
Isn't beating Devin beating a top dawg?
Agree he ain't cleaning out a division. Hes so adhd or whatever I think even if he was good enough to do it layoffs & random bs in his life would make that impossible for him. Very few cats do that as is tho so its not even a diss to say he won't.
I dgaf about p4p very much so got no dog in that race or much desire to debate it. But I'd imagine consistency will be an issue for his whole career, so not unlike with the cleaning out a division thing, I'd tend to agree. That said most guys don't either so it’s inot much of a put down of Ryan's skills to say he won't either.
Devin is a champ at 140, again, NOT 143. And devin is a top dog on paper, skillswise, and even resume wise, he’s no where near a top dawg. Hell stevenson has better wins than haney on paper. Him whooping valdez ass is more impressive than Haneys entire career.
He's more of a champ than fake title holder Haney or booty twerker Shakur lol
And this BS "ssskills pay the bills" is a narrative made up by ******* who ran jab and held all night and remember that **** don't translate to power, speed and heart.
**** outta here with your BS!
WOW. And yet mayweather beat all those “power speed and heart” bums . Skills pay the bills buddy. Malding iver a man who whooped your favorite fighters won’t help.
And no, he’s no champ and will never be onethat’s why even rolly fucking romero busted his nose :boxing:

So you can win a paper belt & turn it into a real belt by who you fight? Also what if you dethroned a paper champ who had made a few quality defenses before you beat him? Is that still a paper belt or is it legit even if you hasn't considered it legit previous to the L?
Randomly this is why I care about #1 over sh^t like this & belt sh^t in general lmfao. Thats why I usually call ppl belt holders or the #1 guy or make some sort of difference in who is just holding a belt & the guy whos holding a belt that is THAT guy.
Yes. The above two are deifnetly considered champions, if they DEFEND AGAINST QUALITY OPPOSITION. For example, Haney winning the belt via e-mail and defending it against guys like old Loma, Old Linares, and Jojo make him a champion from a paper champion, while his resume isn’t very good.
Ryan Garcia might win a vacant belt, but he will never defend it against the best. He will never defeat the top dawgs in his division. He will never clean out a division. And lastly, he will never be pound for pound.
135? 140? He didn’t win a single title in any weight division.
I'm well aware of how it works. I've cut weight for fights myself before...
I don't like weight cutting in general. Ruins the whole point of weight classes, as you said, especially when weigh in times aren't consistent.
But you completely missed the entire point. You are stuck in your own narrative, and there's no point in continuing because it's impossible to have a discussion with someone who's just talking in circles.
The problem is not Ryan or Haney rehydrating. It’s Ryan not losing those three pounds which do have an objective effect on punch resistant and performance. This is precisely why modern boxers are poorly skilled and conditioned in comparison to prime 70s-90s boxers.
Again, You have zero idea on how rehydration and dehydration works. Dehydration doesnt work like that. Losing water weight takes a toll on your chin and body. This is why i am against weigh ins being the day before. It ruins the whole point of weight classes.

Almost every belt holder is a paper champ then. Only one guy is #1. Thats the real champ at whatever weight.
Wtf is the difference between a top 4 belt guy & a "paper champ" guy from your pov?
Um, someone who dethroned a champion or won a paper belt but made consistent elite level defenses
Bold prediction to say a 25yr old top ten-ish guy (hes prob top 3 at 143.2lbs lol) won't win one of 4 belts in his career. 147 is pretty wide open now, but it'll be a lot more wide open after Boots goes to 154. I could 100% see him touch a belt at 147 in the next few yrs. I don't foresee him being #1 tho.
Sure, he will be a paper champion.
Haney regularly drops and rehydrates 20+ lbs, and has for years. Probably his entire career. It's not doing anything to him that he isn't familiar with and hasn't chosen to get the benefit of being a weight bully. Ryan is the first guy he's ever fought who was actually his size. He walks around at super middle, and has similar dimensions to Canelo. He was nearly 10 lbs more than Prograis on fight night. I've got zero sympathy for him for getting a taste of his own medicine. The penalty for Ryan was paying 1.5 mill and not being eligible to win a world title. It's not illegal to miss weight, it just makes you ineligible to win the title.
I think weight cutting is sanctioned cheating, and people should be required to fight at their walking weights.

Idk how much that even matters other than for financial purposes and attracting big names. If you bring in money I don’t see why a fighter would care about them. Ryan Garcia’s starpower transcends the WBC, WBO, WBA, and IBF. The Ring is the title he should want and that’s it.
All these alphabet titles diminished their own value in terms of legacy. Every weight class has like 10 boxers who can call themselves a “champion” of some sort.
The champion at 140 is Teofimo Lopez and that’s it, that’s the one that counts imo.
This has nothing to do with what losing actual water weight and rehydrating does to you, though. I meant jr welterweight not jr lightwright.

If Garcia is truly the money man from 140-147, he can easily win a WW title once Crawford vacates all the belts in a mismatch designed to get him a belt.
Barrios or Santillian come to mind.
Depends what you mean by a world championship. He will probably never be recognised by the TBRB as champion of a division. He can probably win at least one of the ten belts available in each weight class though:
WBC.
WBC 'interim'.
WBC 'franchise'.
WBA 'super'.
WBA 'regular'.
WBA 'interim'.
IBF.
IBF 'interim'.
WBOgus.
WBOgus 'interim'.
Hell always be a paper champion. A true c level fighter who cheated to the get the top.
ryan doesnt even want belts, he says they wont feed his family, he is one of the 'lucky ones' in the sport who dont need a belt it seems
Good. His family is full of a bunch of crack ridden bums and if i exposed them further i’ll get banned so i’ll leave it at that.
You're stupid if you think Haney entered the ring as a junior lightweight (that's 130lb btw). Haney entered the ring for his last fight at 165. Ryan entered the ring for his last fight at 160. It's entirely possible Haney still outweighed Ryan, despite Garcia missing weight.
He could probably win a vacant title and defend it against the usual trash mandatories. Not sure if he'll care to though.

I mean it depends on the competition as well, I don't see Ryan as a great fighter considering how limited he is, but what he does good he excels. He has the equalizer with his explosive handspeed.
If Rolly could get a title due to favoritism, why not Garcia? He might not win all his fights but he be a live dog against the likes of Crowley, Barrios, Giyasov and Stanionis at 147.
