He's so unprofessional, but I did NOT see that coming. Garcia on points was what I thought was the least likely result. If the whole thing was a troll job, that's gotta be one of the biggest troll jobs in boxing. I fell for it, hook, line, and sinker.
He wouldn't be undisputed though. Fight was at 140, where Haney only has the WBC, and he's still got to contend with Teo, Matías, and Cruz.
You're right. I was thinking 135.
Contrarily to what I believed, the new thread is up
It’s only right. It’s the final matchup of the season and Barthlemey/Dulorme are not some bums.
I remember when Chocolatito was robbed of a win against Estrada in 2021. I lost something like a 200-point, x5 perfect pick there... :purity:
That fight still pisses me off. One of the biggest rob jobs in recent years. I remember being on a Utah trip feeling good watching the fight at a cabin until Gonzalez got fked. I dont even want to mention the money I lost lol.
Rubber match was shady too but Roman has nobody to blame but himself for losing the early rounds.
So is that it for the first season? No fights this weekend?
Probably not (mismatches alert...). But it's still to be officially decided, hopefully quickly.
My only issue with the pick em thread and I know it is not our fault here:
Boxing has become a business and not as sport.
I wanted to pick Ryan by decision but I said to myself: Haney has the judges on his side, money is on his side, meh, I'll go Haney. Before the fight I asked : What if Cryan actually KD's Haney and some people jumped at me, LOL.
Remember when I picked Mayer instead of the other one and then I found out mid fight that the fight was in the UK?
Even when Mayer won, I would've had a perfect pick if I would have know the fight was in the UK, LOL.
It is awesome to pick fights and have fun with you guys, you guys are all awesome!!!!

Teo vs Ryan would have to be refereed by a shrink :lol1:
Oh, well, hats off to Ryan. If he had made weight, he would be the undisputed world champion.

He's 5'9" to Haney's 5'8", and lanky build. Haney is much broader across the shoulders now. We already know that Haney was 165 on fight night vs Prograis. And Ryan was 160 vs Duarte on fight night. You can tell yourself whatever stories you want, but Haney has been a weight bully his whole career and finally fought someone his own size. It is what it is.

I find it hard to believe that Haney was the bigger man. Compared to him, Ryan is huge.

Ryan was expected to rehydrate to 160 after missing weight. Devin rehydrated to 165 for his fight with Prograis. It's pretty likely Devin weighed as much or more than Ryan in the ring on the night. There's the intangibles about whether or not he felt drained from making weight. But I'm a lot less interested in defending a habitual weight bully who regularly recovers 20+ pounds so he can fight smaller men. YMMV. I don't support weight cutting at all. I think it should be banned, and people should fight at their walking weights. But it's not like it's illegal to miss weight, and it meant that Ryan couldn't win the title.

Be that as it may, there's a difference between the smaller guy who drained down to 140 and the bigger guy who didn't.

We acting like Haney doesn't rehydrate 20+ lbs for every fight? Weight bully finally fought on equal terms for the first time in his career. I don't buy the "Ryan was cheating for 3 lbs". He didn't lose because Ryan didn't bother to try to make weight. He lost because he drops his right hand when he jabs and failed repeatedly to avoid Ryan's ONE weapon. Bizarre. I really thought he would know about that hook and have a gameplan for it...

Yes, Haney lost fair and square. But I do not approve weight bullying in general. Not from him, not from Garcia or anyone else for that matter. I still can't accept watching Arturo Gatti almost killing Joey Gamache after weight bullying him for two rounds.
Oh no, I didn't forget; Garcia was easily @ full WW for a SLW fight. I read that he bet $20 million on himself.

Yes, but - lest we forget - he remains a cheater. This was Castillo vs Corrales II all over again, the difference being Corrales knocked out soon, and Haney taking a beating in the final third of a 12-round fight. Devin accepted 1,5 millions for becoming damaged goods, because that's what he is now.

Garcia tricked damn near all of us. :lol1:
