After watching today fights i was wondering what happened to Anaguchi and his recovery so i googled what has happened to him since then,
only to find out he still in a coma 28 days laters… damn hope this kids comes out of this, that was one hell of a fight
Agreed but i was very surpised to see no medical attention right away, poor guy was shaking uncontrollably in the corner as soon as the fight ended and he still walked to the dressing room leaning on his team
this was the undercard to a inoue fight very very surprised to see an event in japan miss something as important as this
As bad as the UK is for cheating visiting fighters, I think their medical care is the best. If that was in UK the paramedics would have been in like a shot as soon as they saw his legs going. He would have been given oxygen straight away and probably taken on a stretcher. May not have made a difference, but what we saw was very poor.
The fact that Anaguchi was winning by a hair until the last knockdown in R12 and not showing irregular symptoms (other than normal expected fatigue and damage) really made it hard to stop as well.
I mean, in hindsight we can say stuff but at the time, if the ref stopped it after maybe the 3rd knockdown I'm sure there would've been a lot of bashing and people saying stuff like robbery by ref or that he did it to save Tsutsumi from losing his belt or whatever. Obviously not Tony Weeks level bad but definitely would've had people unhappy that the ref "chose the winner" so to speak. In fact I'm sure if Anaguchi lost due to ref calling TKO before the last round he and his team probably would've complained about it too.
Thats not a great sign.
They need to start ending some of these grueling fights sooner when they can. Those are typically the type of fights where a severe injury or death happen. That said idk when this fight would have been stopped. Dude looked very hurt a couple times watching this fight but it was more subtle & idk that a ref was likely to have caught it in real time + he came back strong from each of those times. Sometimes this feels like ones destiny more than it could have been prevented.
