I’ve always said Benavidez is a weight bully. Today I heard an interview that just confirms it. He has plans of one day fighting at heavyweight and by one day I mean “soon,†not when he’s a fat old man.
Now in Las Vegas you can have a 48 hour weigh in period. It’s the norm now, apparently.
Does anyone else lose all respect for these weight bullies? I think the sport is taking a nose dive and this is one of those reasons.
Stfu you racist ***** you've been exposed as the alt of Mulako.
Trey Shaw, you racist scumbag, I have NEVER had an alt here, ever. Unlike you, I don’t make racist posts so I don’t need one.
You can admit it. Every regular poster here already knows it. You are the alt of the banned poster Trey Shaw and you’ve been banned here many times for making racist posts. I strongly believe that this is not the first time you’ve been banned and then created an alt. Am I correct?
A weight bully is someone who doesn’t make the contracted weight forcing their opponent to either take the fight at a disadvantage or not get paid for the work and sacrifice they did to make the weight.
Some examples: Floyd, Canelo, Jermall, D Benevides, Nery. I’m certain there are more.
Stfu you racist bitch you've been exposed as the alt of Mulako.
Just the facts is a racist pos who only comes here to race bait posters.
Ban this clown.
Trey Shaw, the racist scumbag is YOU! Don’t include me in your ignorant bu!!shyte. Every single post you make on this website is made with racist motives. No exceptions.
Admit it, you are the alt of the banned poster Trey Shaw and you’ve been banned here many times for making racist posts.
they are not called out because we have no clue really what guys weigh in the ring now
we think we have some idea but thats not knowing
there would be some very big surprises i would say
people used to say that canelo was too small to fight ggg at MW and he dropped his belt to avoid him for years, but actually canelo even at 154 often came in fight night at 170 - 172, actually heavier than what ggg was himself at fight night, usually bang on 170 or so for him
I think you're wrong there my guy. I know lots of guys in the business who do not like these weigh ins and consider it close to cheating.
Its within the rules it cannot be cheating its professional advantages, as I said, they have choices to agree or do not agree to the criteria of a fight, IF the other guy is bigger yet he makes the weight, its a professional advantage just as reach height strength speed are profession advantages and not cheating because they were born with these attributes, the weight classes in boxing have a range of overall poundage designed to group similarly sized guys within limits, if you are naturally at either end of that range you will be bigger or smaller in that class, that's not cheating that's the difference in people inside a weight range.
Weight bully is fan BS, you have a weight to make its your choice what that is so you take it or leave it, if a guy is bigger and makes the same weight, that just means you should be in a lower weight class or he is hurting himself, in the stupid world of fans if he wins he is weight bully if he loses he was drained, fan ignorance always creates a narrative that distorts reality to suit the narrative.

Flip Homansky has no friggin idea how much damage he did to the sport by getting rid of same-day weigh ins. He did it to benefit the guys cutting alot of weight, worrying about THEIR safety, but ignoring the guys who actually fight at a proper weight class, and the risk forced on them by having to fight guys significantly heavier than themselves.
They should switch back to same day weigh ins, and if someone drains themselves to the point that they get hurt because they didnt have time to put 15 pounds back on, then so be it. That was their choice.
But it wont happen, because the promoters like having day-before weigh ins. It gives a full day and then some for media reports and extra promotion about the weigh in, and also allows more time to find replacement fighters if someone misses weight or a fight dies at the weigh on over medicals or something else.
This ^^^
That's an excellent comment. Very insightful.
Maybe a rehydration cap of 12 pounds. Twelve pounds (approximately) should be the most that a fighter can put on. I'm convinced that these guys are going back to their hotel room and getting on a drip. I've done research on this, and experts have said that it's physically impossible to put on 20 plus pounds within a 24 hour period just by sipping fluids.
there is no such thing as a 'weight bully". If a guy walks around at 350 lbs and he makes lightweight comfortably, it's totally legal
Exactly. But a simple end to this conversation would be fight day weigh-ins as in the old days.
Andrade is really bizarre specimen. He has wide shoulders and is tall. He is big guy anatomically.
He is natural SMW. Just like Charlos who has similar physique to him.
If a guy is skinny and tall (like Paul Williams), he can fight in lower weights. But if you're both wide and tall (like Andrade and Charlos), you should kill yourself to make 154 and 160.
In fact, Andrade is as big as Plant and slightly smaller than Benavidez.

Wow he looks big in that picture. I didn't watch the weigh ins. That's a little shocking. Maybe Andrade actually has a chance here like Jim Lampley stated.

I agree 100 percent. It's an absolute joke. Same day weigh ins were an issue because guys were trying to be weight bullies rather than move up a division. They didn't want to lose that advantage, so instead of making an interval weigh in period to make sure the guys are doing it safely, they instead made it so you could have 24 hours. But NOW not even THAT is good enough. NOW they need damn near 48 hours.
It's a ****ing joke. And then we have these clowns defending it. Crazy.
i think going back to same day weigh-in and getting rid of the junior/super weight classes would go a long way in negating some of the weight advantages. not to mention that you would have a larger talent pool in each division. a lot of it comes down to the ABC organizations making belts for weight classes that didn't exist. that's too much of a money grab for those organizations to give up
With a 36 hour rehydration period. It takes this from being a sport to a charade. It's a joke. Luckily it's resigned to Las Vegas. But this is quintessential weight bullying. I hope Andrade stops Benavidez to send a message to all the other weight bullies.
I know it's a joke, but it's well within the rules. I would like the sport to go back to same day weigh ins. That will stop a lot of this 20+ lb rehydration, but it's legal and as long as it's legal, fighters will continue to do it. Everyone does it. Some more than others
If the rules are the same for both fighters, what's the problem?
The length of the rehydration period. It should be 4 hours.
On such a short rehydration period, Benavidez would have been a journeyman boxer with some L's .
boxing is based on weigh classes and make an issue of moving up and down as being a great thing but we have a situation where noone actually knows what current fighters fight night weights are, some guys rehydrate 15 or 20 pounds, thats 2 or 3 or 4 weight classes, its a bit bizarre i think
