Goes to show that what the UFC guys are doing is on another level. Training in UFC is much more versatile and it showed on the night. In my opinion Ngannou was much better condition due to his allround training. In the clinch Ngannou was much stronger and was not fazed by the Furys punching, built like cement.
MMA is more fast paced than 90% of boxing matches
Eh, I dunno about that. Boxing matches can go way longer and a lot of the time you see fighters going at a consistently high pace and volume for the whole 36 minutes without any real slowing down or loss of technique. In MMA its the norm to see both guys looking like zombies by the championship rounds if its been an intense fight. Also the general approach in MMA suits a lower volume - the default range is further out and its more dangerous to stay in the pocket throwing a bunch of shots.
Yet he is always in the gym, always working, so maybe he is doing something wrong in camp ?
Being IN the gym doesn't necessarily mean he's working out hard.
He had 12 weeks camp.
Just because we're boxing fans doesnt mean we should be blind and excuse the embarassement fury brought to boxing.
12 weeks camp and still did not take the fight seriously. Boxing fans should know better than base boxing's conditioning on this guy's lack of drive and laziness.
I mean most train in wrestling and that offers better conditioning than boxing.
That is what I am suspecting. He was also draining Fury in the clinch, instead of the reverse (Fury expected to drain Ngannou by hanging over him, yet he was the one stumbling)
The best conditioned fighter on the planet Bud Crawford might disagree. So would a prime Floyd. If mma conditions so well how come stars like Brock and Connor were gassed by round 3?
Those are exceptions, and Bud seems to be a fighter that does his training camp right. Floyd was a league on his own in his division, can we say that about Conor who was all hype and had around 10 UFC fights at the time.
The old school, bag work, roadwork, push-ups, olds school boxing methods that Fury relied on in his career seems outdated. Yet it is effective because it works for him. Does it mean it is the most optimal ? I think that Ngannou did particulary well because of his great shape, not because of his boxing skills as he was having difficulties in the later rounds connecting and setting up anything.

Francis is physically stronger, I don't think anyone could've doubted it. And seems he was training hard, unlike Fury because you saw the shape he was in - did he look like a man after a 12 weeks camp? he was probably doing some training, but that was all and he has only himself to blame. He should not be weighing above 120 kg. as he seriously damaged his body during his drugs hiatus.
He managed his energy well. I was surprised because his gas tank is considered suspect in MMA, I guess largely because of how he looks and that hes rarely needed to last long.
I think boxing generally takes better conditioning because the fights tend to go longer and the pace is a lot more predictable. Theres so much variation in how an MMA fight can play out in comparison, it COULD be harder than a boxing match (in terms of pace and damage taken) but generally its easier.
One thing that I do think definitely helped Ngannou in that fight was how hes used to opponents trying to grapple him. When you have actual wrestlers trying to ragdoll you like their lives depend on it you're not gonna have to worry too much about Fury trying to do it.
MMA is more fast paced than 90% of boxing matches, 10% being the smaller weight classes where they throw over a thousand punches.
Fury did not even take the fight seriously, was out of shape and still never looked gassed. My only gripe was that he was rushing his work and was off-balance in spots. If he had been more methodical and not rush his work, he would have won every round easily. Francis did not adapt to his 1-2 and was getting hit by that all night outside of that 1 time he dropped fury.
I find it hilarious that YOU boxing fans should have known better than to base an entire sport's conditioning on a fat tub of lard with disgusting looking muffin tops. *face palm*

There is no fat you cannot get rid of, I guarantee you if you restrict what is going down your neck, the fat will leave, as a matter of fact you cannot remove all internal fat through exercise it can only be done with calorie control.
Then why isn't he always in 'Klitschko' shape. He is always working and never slacking.

Them .mma guys used to fighting damn near bare fist the top level mma guys ain't afraid to get hit with boxing gloves that's half the battle not being in fear of a professional punch
Lack of fear doesn't win professional fights
Lack of skill usually does.

Or maybe it's a type of fat you can't get rid of ....
