For the Fury Ngannou fight the card starts at 1pm est but ring walks aren't until 5:40 est.
That's an over 5 hour show in total. Seems excessive.
Do most people just watch the fights in the last hour or so before the main event?
Ugh, this is one of the problems with modern boxing.
Back in the days, you had regular shows all over the country, so major shows didn't last 5 years.
Now, they have to put all the shows on 52 Saturdays, instead of spread out over 365 years ago.
If they brought back weekday boxing, they wouldn't have to stuff these shows.
They'd also be able to make more stars because they'd be able to fight more often.
2 reasons.......
1. Shows cost money. The more fights a promoter can fit on the same show reduces the overall cost of each fight. So if a promoter has 40 or 50 fighters under contract and has to keep them all busy, he wants to fulfill as many obligations in one night as possible.
2. You always assume that a few fights will fall out between the time the show is announced and the day of the event. Fighters pull out, fighters get injured in camp, fighters miss weight, fighters get locked up, things happen. Fights fall out. So if you want to have 7 or 8 fights on the show, you would schedule 9 or 10 to allow for a few fallouts. But sometimes nothing falls out and then you just have a really long show.
For me, it’s not that the event is too long, it’s that for the most part the undercard fights are so pathetic. I don’t care if it’s Top Rank, DAZN, PBC or whoever, you can pick undercard winners at a 95% clip or better.
Some are indeed irritatingly long with poor quality sometimes. But an event must provide something for its price, plus it's under a card that boxers have their chance to fight.
Boxers need to box.
This is my biggest issue with the influencer/circus fight sh**.
It takes away valuable dates from people who’ve dedicated years to the sport.
Boxers need to box. There's only a certain number of cards that can be put on so they fill it to get people run outs.
BUT I do think they need to speed up between fight sometimes. No need for the excessive breaks, just get the next fight in the ring ASAP.

Well, if you you don’t like the sweet science. I get your point. I hear they’re showing the new Barbie movie on that day at that same time.
