Nah
He was in decline even before the first Canelo fight and still got robbed twice, we're going back 8 years or so.
Too old now, been out of the ring too long and was clearly looking old in the ring in his last few fights.
Phenomenonal fighter at his peak. Wouldn't wanna see him start losing to young guys that couldn't have laced his gloves at his best.
Maybe he could still do it. I think he keeps himself in good condition.

Shows how shallow the division was at the time. Wonder how his reign would've been looked at if it was more recent.
Okay ryan has given me more information. Hopkins did not rematch dela hoya?
They would but it would be that outspokenly motivated minority I mentioned in another post above. Anger from forum edgelords is not a gauge of anything.
As I like discussing Hopkins' career though, let's talk about his middleweight rematches. The first Robert Allen fight ended in a NC so it was right there was an immediate rematch. The third fight was an IBF mandatory and the precursor to the De La Hoya fight.
The Echols rematch was also a mandatory: https://lasvegassun.com/news/2000/sep/22/hopkins-title-fight-dec-1-at-rio/

Reviewing his record on boxrec, he picked up titles in a rather unsatisfactory way didn't he? Both his WBA and WBC reigns began as 'interim'. It was hardly Hopkins snatching them off the real beltholders was it?
Blame guys for literally ditching their belts instead of fighting him. And let's not pretend Hopkins MW run was pretty shit for the most part. Can you imagine how much guys would've lost their mind if Golovkin had rematched guys he had already defeated? Posters here would absolutely lose their shit.
I think the antipathy towards Canelo is mostly an internet thing. Like with most subjects, including politics, the most outspokenly motivated people make themselves known online which can give one a distorted view of things.
That and, like boxing's scoring "system", a terrible resume is subjective :lol1:
Anyone hailing GGG's MW run has to be strange in the head.
I hope he gets some last big money soft touch and rides off into retirement. Big Drama Show has done enough for boxing. Donaire's career would have been better without being outclassed by a basic fighter in Santiago, and Pacquiao didn't need to have Ugas elevated and overhyped so much.
Fans like knockouts. His career is akin to Calzaghe's, except Calzaghe won his two "big name" fights, although I would say Canelo was probably a more difficult proposition at that point in his career.
KO's are awesome :boxing:
Still, a ggguy like GGG can KO a ton of ?'s and ggget standing ovations and copious amount of accolades.
Nelo gets lambasted for KO'ing guys like Kov and Fielding.
How do those fake fight fans make the distinction between quality KO opponents :dunno:
Those same fake fight fans yell at Nelo for fighting ''an old man''.
As if Nelo planned this out in the womb :lol1:
Can still win some fights up to a certain level but its going to get increasingly hard each time at his age. Fun guy to watch but I dont think theres any real need for him to stick around now.

So called fight fans love to pick apart weak resumes
Love to insult a guy for fighting bums or cherry picking
With GGG, they make excuses for him having such a shltty resume.
''No one wanted to fight him.''
''Everyone ducked him.''
Very strange how a guy with such a weak resume became so popular with fight fans :dunno:
Beneath that happy smile was a sad man. It's not the titles he wanted. It's the money. Lots of it. He sued his former managers, got rid of them before he signed with DAZN. Then he got his first taste of money all his own without having to share it with others. Got rid of his trainer and opted for cheaper alternative. Few more fights plus the trilogy made him a millionaire. He doesn't have to come back.
