Fans need to appreciate meaningful fights that don't involve big stars.
Stop focusing on just the main event. Let there be 3 - 4 main cards in the same event and promote them with equal passion. Then share the budget fairly to all fighters involved. This sport can't go on dumping all that budget in just one fight and 1 or 2 fighters. It's insane.
A guy who's been fighting for 15yrs & is 22yrs old doesn't need to be "groomed" or "seasoned" for 4 more yrs til he fights a guy with a pulse. If he gots skills he'll move up to bigger opps from fight 1 & if he loses he gets weeded out of the sport sooner instead of being hyped as a future player as he's wisely moved up the rankings for half a decade.
Rocha just got "weeded out of the sport" last night. Been hearing that name for a while now.
Its not a "fan" issue. There are 2 distinct problems with your solution:
1. Typically on an average PPV, the main event fighters pay demands are already taking up most of the budget. You would have to either convince them to take a pay cut, or get industry-wide cooperation from ALL broadcasters that purse splits are for example..... main event = 65% of the revenue, co-feature = 20% of the revenue, next bout gets 8%, etc etc. Not likely to happen
2. The other problem is that it is well known in the industry that undercard bouts DO NOT sell significant PPV buys. They just dont. People buy or dont buy based solely on the main event. Thats just how it is. Sure, there will be a few anecdotal examples, but statistically its insignificant......
Thanks for the input. There seems to be on easy solution.
And #2 you gotta make competitive fights from the opener to the main event on any & every card.
That's what needs to happen in this sport.
But...but...he still young doe.

So it's still partly a "fan issue."
Why do fighters need to be the only athletes, in one of the more dangerous sports at that, who don't know where they stand. Shouldn't boxers be able to take it easy if they won the first 7rds in a 10rd fight like a team up by 30pts in the last quarter does in the NFL?
I mean I agree its less ideal for fans on an entertainment level, but it seems fair to let boxers know if what they are doing in a fight thats working or not working before the end of the fight.
I think you enhance the strategic element of the sport by allowing open scoring. I also think you could alter the whole sport with new rules also if you wanted with this to avoid sh^t fights. Like if a guy is down 7-0 in a 10rd fight maybe you have a new type of mercy rule/uncompetitive fight type of way to win a fight to avoid fans watching a sh^t fight.
This also encourages promoters to make more competitive fights to avoid one sided boring fights so a byproduct of open scoring might be better fights up & down an event.
Chavez Sr vs Taylor never happens with a mercy rule.
I was a longtime boxing fan that dropped it. Watched almost every televised fight for 25 years. Bad scorecards turned me away finally. I don't mind close ones that could go either way, I'm talking about the straight up robberies, kept seeing them week after week and had enough
We still heard bad score cards when the wbc was doing open scoring.
2 or 3 bad scorecards per year doesn't call for Open scoring. It calls for competent judges
Imagine if every SPORT had SUBjective scoring :lol1:
No logical reason not to have it
Edit -
Was corrected.

So....if a cvnt is going to fight differently due to the score, oh well.
Maybe the guy who is losing will fight harder :dunno:
Every sport has open scoring.
Plenty of thrilling come from behind victories.
Even blowouts can be great to watch.
We will NEVER KNOW since boxing is not a sport :)
Let's continue CRYING over fcked scorecards
Such fun

Open scoring sucks.
A fighter with the lead hears he's winning, he takes his foot of the gas. When he may have thought the fight was close and kept fighting hard, if he never heard the cards.
then you have the scenario where
a fighter might get discouraged if he's dominating a fight and he hears that the judges have him losing on the cards. It's like what more can I do? Lara vs Williams type of fight.
Knowing the cards will make fighters go harder if they hear the cards are close. But knowing the cards will make a fighter let up or lay down if he hears the cards are wide
The mystery of the cards are supposed to ensure both boxers stay engaged and believe they are still in the fight until the final bell. Knowing the scores changes both fighters mental mid fight

- - Boxing needs to dump and flush the sycophants currently running and ruining the sport and then reform with contract transparencies, rules enforcement, and transparent round by round scoring so both the fighters and fans know the score as they do in every other major sport.
Ditch 10 point must scoring system as Judges are so stupid they enter wrong figures that have to be corrected after the fact. Win a round + 1 point. Win a round with an additional knock down = 2 pts. Don't win a round = Zer0 points. TKO/KOs automatically end the fight in favor of the slugger...duh...:duh:...:welcome:

What needs to happen is once and for all implement a "take it or leave it" stance when fighters demand more money than a fight is worth. Then offer it to someone else. This problem is never going to go away until something is done about it and investors keep giving in to their demands. I for one have learned to appreciate any fight involving fighters with same skill level. Doesn't matter if they don't have names yet.
Boxing needs to become a sport.
With an official scoring system that is on display
Every sport has one.
''Butbutbut......boxing needs to have that aura of mystery.......''
Right.............................
No other sport is thrilling because of their open scoring system :(
''Fighters won't fight as hard if they know the score :crying:....''
Says who :dunno:
Fight fans need a reason to bltch and moan
Having a legit scoring system removes the crying.
Leave nothing for the imagination or interpretation
Give the judges the best seats in the house and reduce the chances of having 3 different scorecards
A universal governing body would be nice.

Young and up and coming fighters with limited experience at the top level need to take the high risk low reward fights to become stars and attract fans.
As of right now, we have a ton of young divas who think they deserve Mayweather and Canelo money while having 10 fights or no big notable wins.
Right now, these Youtubers taking on semi pro boxers like Tommy Fury are actually taking bigger risks than the actual full fledged pro boxers.
Few and far and between, the top pro boxers who are actually taking on challenges consistently through their careers. Canelo, Inoue, Usyk, Lomachenko to name a few. I would even say Jermell Charlo.
Boxing is fine. I think you mean "North American Boxing" which is near dead.
If you actually love boxing, start paying attention to non glamour weight classes and foreign fighters.
