Now that it's official that Showtime Boxing will be obsolete, Where do you think PBC will land to continue delivering events?
And do you think Stephen Espinoza will follow along?
They say possibly Amazon Prime or DAZN.
Where would be best?
Is that a fact?.....
It's hard to see SHowtime going out of business man, Wow.
After moving everyone over to Paramount+, Showtime will
eventually be shut down.
Because of the sheer number of fighters they have under contract, if I were advising them I would suggest selling subs direct to consumer, like ProBox does. They could generate enough revenue from that and the live gates to run 8 or 10 shows a month in various venues. They could keep most of their roster busy that way, and still continue their recent trend of all of their top 20 or 25 guys fighting exclusively on PPV......
Man your knowledge is awesome!!
I DM'd you via phone. Need you on a show to delve into this deeper!! LOL!
It's weird, the more I have thought about the whole Amazon Prime news, the more I think it won't be there.
Let's see what happens.

I think they will get a deal with Amazon.

Showtime is being shutdown??? Wow that's the first, I didn't know that dang.
Where did you hear that from??
Used to work for Showtime. Still have friends there.
I would be, particularly your experience dealing with sanctioning bodies which is one of my pet subjects.
Yeah me too, I reached out to him.
Stay tuned, hopefully we can get a show with him on my You Tube channel
Showtime never said that. That's an internet fabrication.
Showtime is being shut down in a few years and the rights to PBC have gotten to expensive for a network that is planning on closing.

I would be willing to, although I doubt anyone would care what I have to say lol
I think people would man.
Hey can you email me please? reneman00@gmail.com
...But it seems like the issue here is the mubers weren't showing it in regards to viewership on Showtime.
I understand that's why they are booting Showtime Boxing. Something along the ratio of less than 10% and they couldn't meet the expectations

Is there still space for "smaller" promoters in boxing do you think?
Yes, but its pretty much the same as its been for the past 20 years. There are only a few good reasons to run dark shows.....
1. You have a few fighters under contract and would rather run your own events instead of paying to put them on other peoples shows
2. You have other businesses you are trying to promote through the shows, such as law office, accountant, doctors office, etc.
3. You just happen to have some money to blow, and you enjoy the sport and want to contribute
It is extremely difficult, if not outright impossible, to make money on small dark shows. And by "small dark shows" I mean under 1,000 seats, and no TV revenue. Some people try to make money by selling slots to other promoters and managers, but those usually end up being garbage 1-sided fights that nobody enjoys. You can get away with it a few times but if you fill your show up with that crap every time you will lose your ticket buyers.
The other problem with being a "small" promoter with no TV access is if you do end up finding and developing the next Mayweather or Pac, once you get to like 15 or 20 fights you will hit a dead end. You wont be able to afford the correct opponents without TV money, so you will end up having to give half, 3/4 , or sometimes all the promotional rights to someone with a TV deal, like Top Rank, Golden Boy, or PBC. So its definitely challenging........
Hey, it would be fun to have you on my channel so we can talk your experience in the industry.
Would you be willing to?
I would be willing to, although I doubt anyone would care what I have to say lol
I had an amazing run from 1999 through 2011, and then it was time for me to move on lol

Cable networks would rather invest on TV series now, similar to HBO's investment on Game Of Thrones.
They're easy to sell in the international market. Plus they employ hundreds of people from set designers,
make up artists, costume designers, tailors, props makers, actors, extras, visual effects artists, script writers,
directors, camera men, musicians for the soundtrack, you name it.
In boxing only few greedy fighters benefit with the guise of they're risking their lives doe. Kills me.
Hundreds of soldiers are sent to the war front without any chance of probably having their own homes...
Saw some behind the scenes footage of GOT many months ago. It's a village full of busy people working and contributing to the production. Carpenters, mask makers, sword designers, tailors with hundreds of uniforms hanging on display, crew members, etc. It's an industry. It's huge money well spent and spread around, unlike in boxing. Only few greedy fighters/managers get to have a large piece of the pie.
Wow that's cool!
I am sure you learned w whole lot in the industry

HBO's Real Time w/ Bill Maher alone would trump most boxing shows. Average of 4 million viewers per show. And it only needs a studio and 3 - 4 guests excited to be in that show. Very cheap to produce.
I get pitched frequently to advise or consult on promotions, or even be a site coordinator for an established promotion, but truthfully I really enjoy just being a spectator these days.
All of the fun and joy of being "in" the business faded a long time ago......

Correct. And also its worth noting that series like GOT, or even much less popular shows, can be profitable for a network for years to come. Shows will be streamed 5, 10, 20 years down the road, meanwhile 99% of fights are watched ONCE and then forgotten forever. For every Corrales vs Castillo or Ward vs Gatti fight, there are 100,000 Haney vs Kambosos 2 or Andrade vs Sulecki type matches that will never be viewed a 2nd time.
In the current climate where very few #1 vs #2 type matches take place, boxing is a bad investment for a broadcaster.....
