After taking a jab, the challenger takes a knee, waits patiently for the referee's count, then walks humbly back to his corner.
I can't think of another challenger for the crown with so little fire or courage.
Frank Warren has him fired up now but where was that fire when it counted?
He got up on 9 and the ref waved it off anyways without even evaluating if he can continue. Then the ref went over to embrace Usyk and hold his hips and stare in his eyes thanking him for the big pay off.
It is completely legal to use the 10 count for a breather. Usyk got 4 and a half minutes breather, the guy cant get 9 seconds?
if your knee is still on the canvas when the ref says 9, it's over. It was that way when Foreman rose too late vs Ali and when Quarry rose against Chuvalo. Nobody is going to be evaluating anybody if you don't beat the count.
did you see Dubois protest? No, he went meekly back to the corner which was the whole idea behind letting himself be counted out.

I thought the punch was low. There are folks on this board whose opinions I respect that disagree. No matter which camp you are in though, I don't think we can assume that Usyk would not have gotten up and finished the round. Saying Dubois was robbed of a KO, no matter your view of that punch, is an overstatement, imo.
He didn’t get up though, he looked like he was done from what I saw.

I did too. Granted, I've seen similar punches (and lower) not called a foul. It was ref's discretion.
This whole debate kind of reminds me of the the Fury/Wallin fight. Wallin landed an early punch that changed the nature of the fight. I've seen officials stop fights for similar cuts but there was no way Vegas was going to derail the Wilder fight because of that cut.
You have to wonder if the roles were reversed and it was Wallin who was cut or DuBois who was hit with that borderline shot....would it have been ruled differently?
Was McCall's rematch fight with Lennox Lewis a title fight? That was a helluva anticlimactic and sad ending to a fight; McCall just hugged and blocked and cried.
He is a consistent kneeler. No heavyweight can survive with that mentality.
he has a legitimate beef though. That looked like it was probably a clean body shot KO.

Dubois has a lot of quit in him
I still think his shot was legal, so it can be both true that he arguably got shafted out of a win and is also a quitter.
He looks like he just wants to take a knee when he's under any bit of sustained pressure.
That's something you're never ever fixing. It's just within you. Or maybe you become a quitter like an Eric Molina type who is just looking to pick up some money while he can and lay down. But If youre quitting like Dubois does at 25, that's who you are.
Let's not forget that in his fight before Usyk, he went down three times and McGuigan basically had to force him back out into the next round, Dubois wanted to quit in the corner.
I'm not taking the punches but to me it looked like exhaustion more than anything.
He's a big boy and Usyk brings a unique pressure.
He showed a big enough heart against that South African dude while fighting on a blown out knee.
He done alright. He's a young guy. Could he have went on until he got sparked out?
Probably.
But we take that for granted that its normal.
Usually British fighters tend to because there is a honour it.
But to be fair to me that ref could have let that guy on anyway if he really wanted to.
AJ vs Ruiz was worse. He was on his feet and just quit.
I wouldn't know about that. Ruiz hit AJ with some serious firepower. He was clearly concussed, and had supposedly been ko'd previously in training.
Dubois didn't look all that hurt in there.

Amen, dubois went to water, embarrassing ending for him. All this low blow chat has taken away from the fact that dubois quit for no good reason..why train so hard and bring in all those new trainers when you can't stick it out when it gets challenging.
