Why can't Top Rank put on big events anymore? What happened?

Were you guys all born yesterday? Top Rank are happy as clams, guys. Bob Arum never wanted to co-promote in the HBO era. He'd have a fucking stroke every time HBO turned down one of his in-house showcases and asked for him to make a fight against a King or Duva or GBP fighter. None of them are allowed to say it out loud, but Arum LOVES this new model where he has an output deal and doesn't co-promote. So does (did?) Haymon when he had the exclusives with Fox and Showtime. Hearn wanted to do the same thing but he didn't have the fighters, so all of a sudden he went from "We're putting you out of business" to begging to co-promote. Arum isn't putting on million-selling PPV events these days, but he also isn't going feast-or-famine hoping HBO buys his shitty fights. ESPN gave him a check and he can put any old shit on. He isn't splitting his PPV sales with HBO either. All of these fucking crooks are happy as can be that boxing is in a terrible place.

I honestly think that keeping Teo away from interviews might actually be good for his career. He and his pops say some really wild stuff. Maybe bad publicity in which he makes himself look like a moron is better than no publicity though.

Another week, another big fight.....and Top Rank is not involved

There are 3 non-PBC fights this weekend. Why would any serious boxing fan not appreciate this?

I tell you what, once Bob Arum goes to the big Promotional Company in the Sky, faith in Top Rank is going to freefall.

Ironically, I like what Top Rank has done. They don’t have the capital to put on the biggest fights in the sport but they are scooping up the market share of young fighters. For the money it costs to put on a big fight they can pay a dozen young guns + Shakur, Loma, and Teo to fight twice a year. Ultimately, Espn and Top Rank won’t give up the bag to put on the biggest fights in the sport. They just don’t have the bandwidth. Now that Messi is in the states, that’s a real level of competition and obstacle for boxing TV time and also when considering how much to roll into a bigger budget for next year. Eventually Shakur, Teo, and others will have to move on once they decide they’re more valuable and want the big boy fights. Only exception I see is Loma and Inoue because of their bilateral deals tied to networks and brands in their motherlands. U said it right, and that's how it's been for awhile. They sign a sh.it ton of young talent from the Amsterdam and Olympics, develop them into semi or full on household names, then they eventually move on. TR been huge on that, it's worked for them and we get to enjoy the cusp of stardom these young guys are reaching

Top Rank was not involved in making Inoue vs Fulton at all. That was made by Inoue's japanese promoter and TGB Promotions. Teo vs Josh wasn't a big fight, should've been bigger. Why couldn't TR do their job and make it a bigger fight? Why can't they market Teo? Nav vs Valdez? Who cares, that wasn't big either. Even Crawford Spence after yrs rumoured to do 600 Garcia Tank number are probably exaggerated bit lets say that did 1m Wilder Fury 850k Only Canelo is the only one hitting big numbers himself The ones that sell are the ones that can attract a casual fan base too. Only a few names. Tank. R Garcia. Fury. AJ. Canelo Who else? the big fights for boxing fans are being made more now than they have past few years and im talking top opponents vs top opponents. Not just gate and ppv Why can't Top Rank do big fights themselves? What are they doing wrong? Why did their biggest fight in the past 6 years only do a $3 million gate and less than 150K PPV buys?
