Styles makes fights and believe me, I'm a huge Spence supporter but....
He isn't beating Crawford.
It's like a small version of Foreman vs Ali. You can rematch all you want. Unless Ali (Crawford) comes in out of shape, Foreman (Spence) isn't winning.
crawford has his own weight cut, he had sunken cheeks at the weigh in and even the day before the weigh in. I dont expect to see him sluggish or bloated at 154, he is too dedicated for that.
BUD said he was in the 160's 2 days after the fight. He did look extremely dehydrated and flat at the weigh ins. Black eye bags and like you said sunken cheeks.
Both fighters will be less drained at 154 pounds, so? It would still be a struggle for Spence Junior to win.
Spence Junior was able to bang to Crawford's body a bit, so if he is more durable at 154 'And can apply his game, the fight may be more competitive for sure'.
I still don't rate Crawford as a monster puncher, both Brook, Porter and Spence Junior none of them were in their best condition 'But that is down to them, and their decisions. Preparation is part of the competition'.
Crawford quite simply made the weight better than Spence Junior. But people need to understand that, both fighters were drained 'Crawford is a well known big weight drainer, that is why I think? He is not opposing a fight at 154 pounds' etc.
monster power, no, but above average power yes and its his accuracy plus power that really hurts them. Hes extremely accurate with his shots, i seen him picking off head shots on porter while porter dipping low to close the gap, same accuracy with spence, he can land right on the button and that makes a difference.
This is where things get interesting, TC could punch not as hard at 154 because his body is full at 147 above it he could bloated/wet what you would call excess baggage , where as if Spence was drained at 147 he will gain all muscle no baggage.

If Spence brings more power at 154, than Crawford also brings more power at 154. I think Spence maybe can do it a little better if he doesn`t get smoked in the second round again. The outcome will be about the same.

Id say he does better but still loses, if by some miracle he won a rematch, you would have to think he was messed up badly the first time around, there is enough chatter from some very experienced guys to warrant the rematch, and I love the fact TC was straight up don't care if its at 154, I reckon TC would rematch Errol at any weight, Im glad TC didn't do a Manny/Cotto and refuse Errol at the higher weight, I thought that was straight up I beat you and can do it again at any weight.
Spence couldn’t knock down Van Heerden till the intentional rabbit punch here. But otherwise Van Heerden exposes one of Spence’s major flaws. No counter-punching or backfoot game. when the opponent is throwing he’s defending. Only has two modes, defense, and offense. Unless you fall inside on him, then he ducks his head and throws a left hand to the body (Kell Brock’s issue in that fight, kept falling forward into Spence’s counter lowblows)
Glad someone saw it. Funny thing is that Van Heerdan was the last southpaw Spence fought and he had success with the same 2-1 combo that Crawford dropped Spence with.

No he gets opened everytime he extends with the jab and goes to the body. And bud's defense is too good on the inside.
Spence debuted at 154, Jonathan Garcia.

He went back down because he was too small for that weight at the time.
But notice, it's basically the exact same gameplan except more defense was clearly on display. Even when he was getting hit, he was doing a lot more to minimize the impacts and keep coming at you.
It's because he wasn't fighting an elite counter puncher so he looked better.

He may not have been ready for 154 back then he did fight at 152 in the amateurs. At mid 30's it has to be draining him. I don't think he can compete at 160 or 168 like Mayweather is saying but he can look like a rejuvenated fighter at 154. Especially if the rematch takes place by the end of the year. Those 15-16 month breaks between fights are a killer.
154 will help him just by being heavier if nothing else. By rd 6 he wasn’t letting Crawford push him off anymore, was sticking to him like he was with Ugas.

Problem is when Crawford starts fighting him off, the power is a different league to Ugas etc.
Yeah good point. I think Spence will have a lot more sturdy at 154 and will be able to dictate the tempo and pace a little more.
Thanks, tells us that in 2015 spence was cutting more than 10 pounds for welterweight fights being he was 157 on I presume the morning of the fight.
I cant imagine a lot of fighters are wanting to fight in Ontario unless its for an IBF title because of these weigh in rules? everyone else would have to be 147 morning of for non title fights?
Yeah, I typically have to drive to Michigan or Quebec to see good fights. Oddly enough, Badou Jack vs Adonis Stevenson was in Toronto and they didn’t have to go by the Ontario commission rules. Maybe the WBC championship rules supersede them? Who fking knows with boxing lol
and yeah, Spence fought at 152 in amateur, so he’s been boiling down for over a decade
That was an WW fight. It was just in Ontario Canada, where our commission only allows for same day weigh ins.
Both guys were allowed to weigh in at the IBF 10lb rehydrate limit, which is why Spence is listed at 157 and not 154.
Ah ok I heard Spence had a light middleweight fight and I found this on the box stats website and it was his only fight shown above 147.

I think BoxRec shows the 156 weight too.

I dont remember this fight at all. What was the background on why they fought at a catchweight? was one of them a late replacement? Ive seen catchweights if someone has short notice to take the fight because a dehyration would be unfair.
Explained it 2 posts down. Wasn’t a SMW fight.
