Even though Haney has the belts, Lomachenko is STILL, after all these years, the toughest test for Davis at 135.
But now Davis can avoid Lomachenko even LONGER because he doesn't have the belts. We saw how easily Haney can be hit with the straight left... when Davis lands that on Haney it's lights out.
Lomachenko, on the other hand, has a much tighter defense and it would far more difficult for Davis to land one of his signature power punches.
Lomachenko vs Davis is also the most interesting fight at 135 stylistically. Both guys have short arms and need to fight mid-to close range. Both guys are skilled but Lomachenko is certainly the more polished technician...But Davis has the clear power advantage. Both are super quick so the action would be intense close range action.
Davis has a way of waiting out his opponent (often letting his opponent get off more than they should) and then landing that straight left or overhand left that seems to come out of nowhere. But can Davis land that punch on Lomachenko? Can Lomachenko's chin handle it? These are very interesting questions.
In a perfect world, Davis knocks out Haney relatively soon and gets all the belts.... Lomachenko in the meantime faces and beats Shakur... and then we get the REAL super fight at 135 for all the belts and for the real king at 135.... But, I doubt this ever happens.
Loma isn't going to make the same mistake again with Davis that he made with Lopez. This would be Loma's biggest, most career defining fight. It would be a big PPV. I think it's Loma last chance to really shine and he's not gonna blow it. I think the footwork of Loma would give Davis fits too. Loma is just a better fighter technically than Davis. They both have short reaches too. So it's going to be a close range fight (which makes it so much more fun from a fan perspective... Like you know if a 135 floyd fought Loma it would be Floyd potshotting Loma to a boring decision)... Loma has a high enough ring IQ that he might very well be able to clearly outpoint Davis while avoiding Davis's huge left hand (which really his only weapon against Loma ).... No one is gonna go into that fight thinking Davis is going to outpoint Loma.
But maybe Davis will figure Loma out and time and right, who knows.... BUT maybe Loma will prove he has a great chin and we get a war! It's a VERY intriguing match-up.
I don’t doubt for a second that Loma is technically better than Davis but there are just more factors to it, and let’s not pretend like the difference is night and day between them at this point.
Davis is younger, has way more power at their current weight class and is naturally bigger than Loma, and i think that makes up for whatever gap in technicality Loma has.
I think Davis at whatever weight would still KO the Ryan Garcia that pummelled Haney. While I think that version of Ryan walks Loma. Loma can be hurt (proven by a limited linares) by properly timed counters, and Davis has that in him — at least at what he’s shown so far in his career.
i’m not so sure why people are low on Tank when it comes to his IQ (dude always takes his time before he throws his counters). Must be the general opinion always when it comes to punchers kinda like with Morales vs Inoue fantasy thread the other day, Morales has been automatically viewed the smarter guy between the two because he’s not an onslaughting power puncher.
Hell Algieri will be viewed the smarter fighter over pacquiao had they not fought lol
Loma starts darn slow against punchers. Doesn’t impose his game early. Reason why he lost to lopez. I think tank is a much better sniper and counterpuncher than Lopez and would get plenty of opportunities against Loma.
Tank is also tough go ask pitbull. Loma’s power is just not all that at 135, so i doubt he can hurt tank.

It's not the chin that gets tested here, it's the liver. At least Tank doesn't have the reach that Haney does, but Loma's high guard style does leave him exposed to the body, and even guys with great chins can get stopped to the body. I suspect Shakur is the toughest test for Tank, just because he's the hardest guy to hit, and that's one of those best defense v best offense matchups. I think I lean Tank by stoppage in a matchup with Loma these days.
Shakur is going to have at least one of the 135 belts by the end of '24 IMO, so hopefully we get to see those fights.
Ha maybe but Tank didn't want to fight a prime Loma at 130. They need to make that fight now, Tank has all the advantages at 135 so there shouldn't be anymore excuses from his side.
Agreed :beerchug:
You are crazy :dunno:

You have to beg to fight Tank.
Where have you heard Davis say I want to fight so and so fighter? Nowhere.
This is fantasy. People need to start separating fantasy from reality.
Tank is out here fighting prospects, and people think he is this killer. :lol1: Tank arguably lost to Cruz, but we have to believe he is the man because he KOd a bum in Rolly and an influencer in Garcia. Had he fought Garcia when he was with Reynoso, Tank might have lost. Garcia was still training like a fighter then, not doing three days a week as he is now.
Haney probably beats Tank. Tank has the lowest punch output of all boxers at lightweight. The lowest out of everyone. Haney could easily win a decision with Tank. Devin is the better boxer. The reason Devin was hit so much is due to Loma being that much better. If Tank fights Loma this year, he loses. Much easier to fight a guy who does have Dhalsim arms. Easier to control distance.
Just means he steps into a shot that can count him out, you dont touch Tank unscathed its becoming apparent Davis has hammers, Loma to Davis is like a blowfly that will slow enough to get squatted before the 12th.
Loma has regressed and is just about done, Davis is still rising, why is Haney not calling Davis, why is Shakur calling Haney and not Davis, they all know the power is real one shot power.
Loma is LEVELS upon LEVELS in talent above anyone Davis has fought. The ONLY reason people would favor Davis is because of his power. No one thinks he has the ability to outbox Loma.
Davis landing some monster power shot on Loma and knocking him out cold is NOT some forgone conclusion. We don't know how good Loma's chin is really.. It's quite possible Loma gets knocked down and hurt but recovers... then tightens up his defense and continues to outbox Davis to a decision.
And it's not out of the realm of possibility that Loma knocks DAVIS out.
Nah Davis hits too hard for Loma.. it would look like the Teo fight but Tank doesn't fade in the later rounds like Teo did.
Tank would keep Loma on defense because of the power difference
I don't see Loma beating any of the top 135 guys, if Haney can still make weight I think he beats him more convincingly in a rematch. Shakur would outbox him and win comfortably on points while Tank KO's him in the mid - late rounds once Loma gets going.
It'll be interesting to see Loma's fans react to him being KO'd.

I heard Ellerbe talking like a mad man the other day. He talks in riddles but he was basically saying baring the belts Haney in particular but he included Shakur bring nothing to the table and it’s not simple to just make a fight. I like Tank but his team have whilst making him loads of money( which is the goal) his level of competition have been subpar.
Haney and Shakur call Tank out,so much so that tank says he doesn’t want to discuss them. As far as his team goes he is the draw and king of the division and he will give them a short when he is ready.( I’m not talking about his coaches because they are all for the smoke, it’s ellerbie. I
That right there is one of many keys to the fight
Call me crazy but after watching Lomachenko's last performance, not only do I think he beats Tank, he possibly stops him too.

You are right it won’t happen because Shakur beats Lomachenko
Lomachenko had a bit of trouble with Haney's size, height and reach but he was able to close the gap and control the pace rather easily.
With Tank being shorter and having a smaller reach than Haney, Loma won't have any trouble finding his spots and closing the distance much more easier and faster than he did with Haney.

Lomachenko has a way of figuring guys out and hurting guys but he doesn't have the same type of power as Davis. He had both Devin and Teofimo hurt at some point but he could never really finish the job. He always goes back to fighting smart. He doesn't quite have the killer instinct of a Manny Pacquiao.
Buuut... Davis is smaller than Teofimo and Haney... So maybe Lomachenko's power would go a little further with Davis. So when Davis does get hurt Lomachenko will feel more compelled to try to finish the job... Maybe Davis won't recover as well. Or maybe Lomachenko will get sloppy in his attempt to finish Davis and Davis will sneak in one of those huge power punches. Lomachenko's chin has never really been tested yet and I think Davis would probably find a way to find it at some point.
It's a very interesting match. The MOST interesting at 135 I think...both stylistically and fan-friendly action wise. They're both the most talented fighters at 135 for sure.
