Energizer Bunny "keeps going and going..." vs the Snake "wraps around you like a well worn tire..." lol
Ward's "battle of attrition" vs Joe's "survival of the fittest".
Looks like a Pick Em 50/50 fight.
This. Bernard tried that game with him, he made the adjustments, and won by SD IN LAS VEGAS.
I rate Joe as one of the best out of the UK. I don't understand how people could say he's OVERrated. If anything, I think history will look back very fondly of both him and Lennox Lewis.
Most fans on this side of the pond don’t have a clue who Calzaghe was until he brought his azz over
So never really got to know the true Calzaghe
They met the older version of Joe and went about it from there
who wins, who knows, but it would be close i would say
It would be close, no doubt. I think Joe outworks him in the second half.
I could see it going 7-5 or 8-4 in either man's direction. Both were incredible fighters at 168lbs. That much, I think we can all agree on.
And I respect them both, because they both got out before it was too late.
Joe Calzaghe all day long
Hard fought , yes but Joe would come up with victory
He’d make it a street fight , he wouldn’t let Ward tangle him up

Calzaghe wins a wide ud. His volume/speed/iq is all wrong for Ward. Ward wants to slow you down, same as Hopkins. It’s not possible to slow Joe down.
This. This is why Usyk is so hard for people to figure out. It's almost the exact same style. High volume southpaw with tons of movement. A nightmare of a fight for anyone. Just ask Tyson Fury.
8-4 Calzaghe unless they fought in Oakland. Ward wasn't all that great, his wins over Kovalev (2) and Mikkel Kessler exposed just how unprofessional he was and how much he needed dirty tactics to win.
And that's if he actually even won vs. Kovalev the first time, and that's VERY DEBATABLE.
Andre Ward wins this fight in a 10-2 decision. He won't give Joe the opportunity to fight at his preferred mid range.
That's what Hopkins tried to do, and Joe still heat him.

Joe also had hometown advantage he spent his whole SMW reign fighting nobodies on the Cardiff ice rink.
How was it the easiest schedule? He had to fight Kessler, Froch & Abraham the three best fighters in the tournament excluding himself.
like i said, i think ward and calzaghe are both overrated, but calzaghe wasn't in that tournament. the whole thing about the super 6 was that everyone would fight each other in that first round while doing at least one away fight, which ward didn't. kessler was a good win but the headbutts really mar that fight. it was almost like ward got to skip an entire round of that tournament and go straight to the final. kessler and froch are good wins, especially froch. it's a better win than anyone calzaghe had, but i think calzaghe edges ward if they were to fight
ward had the easiest schedule in the super 6 and had hometown advantage in every single fight. he was the only guy in that tournament that didn't have to leave his home country, fought alternate allan green (in oakland) and somehow got to bypass andre dirrell's replacement (glen johnson) to fight sakio bika (in oakland) in a fight that wasn't part of the tournament. i guess you mean killers like weight drained chad dawson, which was the only post-super 6 fight he had at 168.

The thing with volume punchers is their volume always significantly decreases vs a high I.Q craftsman.
Where was Joes volume vs a 43yr old B-Hop? A fight I quite frankly thought he lost 115-112. The odd times he let his hands go or attempted to he was swatting flies and eating counter right hand after counter right hand and got schooled on the inside quite frankly.
I think Ward wins this comfortable.
Joe for me was a guy who benefitted tremendously from clever matchmaking. Ward on the other hand never had that luxury with the Super Six and even after that and fought real killers in their prime.
Its easy to remember Ward for the latter part of his career at LHW but SMW Ward was something else.

they're both overrated. considering their common opponents, i felt like calzaghe handled bika and kessler with much more integrity and fought the fresher version of both guys. it really comes down to where the fight takes place geographically. on neutral ground i would favor calzaghe in a close one

we would have known the answer but calzaghe b*tched out and retired just when his division got hot and loaded with the supersix tourney boxers.
his entire career 168 was barren, with 175 and 160 occupied by ATGs in hopkins and rjj.
calzaghe doesnt budge until both fighters were in their 40s, gets dropped by both 40 year olds, his division finally gets hot,
he retires.
i cant stand scumbags like this.
same crap that floyd jr. pulled.
- - U stewing in U BarneyBigBoys again ain't a good look.
Poppy paid Dibella a $2mil broken contract civil settlement after Lou arranged fights with Joe and Roy, so geriatric Poppy and U is too full of exlax.
Joe locked into an onerous contract with Warren who controlled British boxing then and kept it local and WBO.
When the contract ran out, Joe on his last legs with broken hands travel to America to turn Poppy into a kicked cur crawling around on the canvas in the biggest quit job ever seen in those parts that not even I'm Fairly Infirm Cortez could stomach. Embarrassing for Americans to watch.
Returns to America to carve up Roy like a Christmas Turkey. Roy then Ring #5 and Poppy...snicker...Ring Champ...
U BarneyBigBoys have got the EPA alarms going off as they gonna grab U up as hazardous waste...:Flush:
I love Andre Ward. Been watching him since he was a amatuer. I bet fir him to win the SUPER SIX. That said, I dont think anyone could whip Calzaghe in his prime. Ask RJJ and BHOP.
Many had old man hopkins beating Joe. All who claim "Joe whooped or easily beat hopkins" stop looking at flat resumes on boxrec and take ure lazy ah and actually watch the fight. That fight could have easily gone the other way in Hopkins favor......easily. Joe struggled horriblely in that fight. After that fight (which could have gone ether way) Joe's fans started living through any hopkins future success, because Joe didn't want to fight Pavlik, pascal, guys like kovalev. Any and every win for hopkins to them was automatically marked down as a joe win lol also when Joe fought roy he was shot to bits and in his next bouts knocked out by bum green of Australia but Joe fans claim that this roy was a prime roy lol Joe's resume is crap in comparison to ward and truthfully ward would have fought Joe exactly how hopkins fought him but with a much much higher pace and with 0 stamina issues. Joe would lose 8/4
Calzaghes footwork, handspeed, combinations and deceptive power would be enough against almost anyone.
Ward is dirty, but Calzaghe had no problem getting gritty when needed too.
Joe would find a way, whether that's outboxing or outfighting. He was a compete package who would adjust mid fight if needed.
Ward relied too much on 'spoiling' and was a bit too one dimensional once Calzaghe worked him out.
