Todays crop of boxers are genuinely some of my favorite to watch but I think Oscar would beat 90% of the division today? Definitely think he’d beat the dogshit outta Teo lmao.
Thoughts?
- - Dummy Duva had Peashooter walking into JLRamirez left hook to the liver all night, hanging on and low blowing JL trying to survive the fight.
Peashooter had physical talents greater than his mental wannabe clown limitations could cope with. That's why Duva tapped the superior talent of Meldrick Taylor to challenge JC Chavez, and they almost pulled the upset save Dummy Duva melting at the exact time Taylor needed his best judgement.
Yer welcome.
I put your post into chatgpg with the following prompt, rewrite so a child can understand . This is what it gave me lol.
Once there was a boxer named Peashooter who was not very smart but was very good at fighting. He fought against another boxer named JLRamirez, who hit him really hard in the side of his body all night. Peashooter tried to stay in the fight by holding on to JLRamirez and hitting him below the belt, but it was hard for him to win.
Peashooter's coach, Dummy Duva, realized that Peashooter wasn't smart enough to win big fights, so he decided to find a smarter boxer with great talent named Meldrick Taylor to fight against a champion named JC Chavez. They almost won, but Dummy Duva made a mistake at the most important time, and they lost.
That's the story of Peashooter and Dummy Duva.
As I said they are not seasoned and will not be at their peak for a few more years, youre talking like they are at their career best right now, I don't think they close to it yet, we cant even tell if they a got a chin and can hang in a dog fight, right now they are too green to be mentioned with greats in there prime, movement and slide with black fighters is same same but different, Whittaker is different than Floyd but they both sugar, that's what Im talking about with movement and it gave Oscar more trouble than any other style.

Neither Haney or Stevenson come remotely close to moving like Whitaker. No one really does.
Haney first needs to dominate and destroy at least one top opponent for real. None of that jabbing/hugging scared BS. Go out there and dominate with big combinations.
There’s a reason why Haney is the undisputed champion but is not yet in The Ring top 10 P4P. Quite possibly the first ever undisputed champion who isn’t considered a top 10 P4P fighter.
This dude really struggled with an old, past prime Linares who was KO’ed before and after Haney. And we’re really going to sit here and put him in the same sentence as Whitaker?

Oscar beats them all and it wouldn't be that tough either.
Ppl forget how great De La Hoya was especially at LW.
- - Better at welter. 135 was stressful for him to make, but yeah, Heinie be running fer Daddy vs Oscar.
Uninjured Loma could beat Oscar fairly easy as well as most other lightweights. Neither would beat a prime Duran though.
Shakur and Haney have a chance because of their movement, its Whittaker all over again, Oscar had one minor fault his footspeed can be a little slow as he is often planted and upright, but if Shakur and Haney have a weakness anywhere Oscar would find it, I don't think the LWs today's have seasoned they need to fight some big fights and their best is a year or two away.

DLH was a big Lightweight with power and speed and really good countering, timing and combination punching. Also had great footwork. For his size, you would expect him to be a slow plodding, face-first Mexican brawler. But he was far from that.
And i’m sorry, but Haney? Did anyone see him almost die vs an old Linares? Dude also made Gamboa look way fresher than he is.
There really was no style that was especially good against prime DLH. IMO he beat all Trinidad, Mosley, and Whitaker.

Well Hector Camacho utilized footwork, no? He had defeated Rafael "Bazooka" Limon, Greg Haugen, Edwin Rosario, Jose Luis Ramirez and Vinny Paz. Though I can't give him credit from beating shot fighters like Duran, SRL, Edwards and Mancini.
Though most would likely compare him to Teofimo Lopez than Devin Haney or Shakur Stevenson.
I agree. Oscar De La Hoya beat a prime Genaro Hernandez. Chicanito Hernandez (RIP) was better than Herring, Valdez, and Conceicao.
It's quite impressive considering that De La Hoya was 22 years old when he stopped an undefeated Genaro Hernandez (33-0-1).
Kinda odd that people keep comparing Ryan to Oscar, when De La Hoya had way better technical skills. He also had quite the chin considering he tanked shots from power punchers from 147-154 such as Quartey, Trinidad, Vargas and Mosley X2.
Which in my opinion at least, he arguably beat most of them as I scored it 116-114 in Oscar's favor against Tito despite cruising the last rounds and thought he had won the rematch against Mosley who then had admitted taking steroids from BALCO (Victor Conte) such as IPO.

None. There is no fighter currently at 135 or 140 that would come close to beating Oscar.
In Oscar's era fighters were still fighters.....in this era boxers are divas, low level businessmen that think they are worth more than they are, and very inactive/lazy.
Most boxer in the 90's and 00's commanded respect. This era made me throw away the whole notion that "you have to respect boxers because they take brain damage for our entertainment", I don't respect 90% of these current boxers.
Kinda Ironic that one of the fighters who gave Haney the most difficulty had the same moniker as Oscar, though even a prime Linares would be easy work for De La Hoya if you watch his performances against Genaro Hernandez, Jesse James Leija and Rafael Ruelas.
Not sure how Shakur's career will pan out as he still is just 25 years old, but we haven't seen him fight at the weight class and any top 130 pounders he had fought aren't anything new that the Golden Boy hasn't faced before, Herring, Valdez and Conceicao wouldn't see the fifth round.

He beats all of them.
Oscar was a LEGIT 5'10 with power, speed, skill, and heart.
He'd struggle with Stevenson & maybe Haney a little, just like struggled with Whittaker & Mayweather, but nobody else would even stand a chance.
I think Hed walk through Haney. Shakur would give him some probs initially
He would EASILY whip ALL of them. Oscar had bazaar speed like Shakur but with welterweight power. At 5:10 1/2 he was HUGE. These munchkins wouldn't have a chance.
