I just typed something up and erased it lol
I don't even like Jermell and won't make a case for him. Have at it
What's not to like though! He frequently keeps active whenever he has to defend the titles. The closest chance of becoming a ATG would be facing Fundora who's taking the same level of competition at 25 years old while still developing and improving.
Wlad is an ATG and was knocked out by guy's I never even heard of
I mean he has a massive streak of wins against better opponents. Does it really matter?
While 154 is stacked with pretty good contenders, there isn't exactly Great fighters like let's say Miguel Cotto, Sergio Martinez, Paul Williams and etc. There hasn't been another Champion at 154 since 2018 due to Harrison pulling the upset.
Credit to Jermell Charlo who was and is the best light middleweight for the last 5 years though.
He has taken on all the smoke, facing the best of the best.
Who was he supposed to have fought and beat to get the atg status? lets be real if he beats those two guys and retires....those others guys he has beat will likley go on to do great things...bottom line he has fought and beat everyone period man. sans canelo he is way more accomplished than anyone in the game.....
Realistically, he’d need to beat a Spence or a Crawford. 154 is pretty weak. At the very least he’d need to do what Wlad or GGG done and have a historically impressive title run in regard to defences.
You can’t consider Jermell an ATG based on his performances. ATG’s don’t struggle with a faded Austin Trout, or get outboxed by John Jackson and Tony Harrison and so on. Charlo just isn’t on that level ability wise.
The level of opposition required simply isn’t there at 154, that’s obviously not Jermell’s fault but if it was he doesn’t have anywhere near the success he’s had so it’s a catch 22 in that respect. Imagine actually putting Charlo in with a legit ATG Light Middleweight, say Hearns or McCallum for example, he’d get absolutely smashed to pieces.
Nah not for me, I always have respect for guys who have a record like Charlo, I thought he lost to both Harrison and Castano but he erased any doubt in the rematches. Lennox Lewis had a record like that.
However, ATG is a major stretch man, Charlo has some good wins but he’s never beaten anyone elite. It’s not like he’s dominated at the tier below either. Jackson gave him trouble, a faded Trout gave him problems, Harrison beat him, Castano gave him hell in the first fight.
A good fighter who’s definitely overachieved based on ability but an ATG? Hell no, at least not based on what my definition of an ATG is.

He already is a HOF in my opinion; it will just expand on his legacy if he manages to succeed, as they are more difficult fights compared to let's say Harrison and Castano. Plus, we don't know what current state he is after going to war with Castano twice.
To give some context:
-He defeated a faded Austin Trout who was still game.
-He fought Brian Castano X2 and won in the rematch after a controversial Draw,Castano had defeated Michel Soro, Patrick Taxeira who was coming off from a dominant win over Carlos Adames and Brian had a draw with a Erislandy Lara.
-He defeated Jeison Rosario via KO who had defeated Jarret Hurd.
-He knocked out Erickson Lubin in the first round, who then went to have wins over Terrell Gausha and Jaison Rosario, he also had a war with Fundora.
-Defeated Tony Harrison in spectacular fashion after receiving a loss to him by UD, Harrison had also defeated Sergio Garcia before losing Tzyu.
Not sure about a ATG though, he hasn't faced any Hall of Fame fighters so far.
Preach! Always dropping the in between the line ish.
Considering what he has done.......i think so....what do you guys think??
NO!!
Considering that charla & canelo are the SAME age. If charla would of fought and whipped canelo, then I agree. I don't consider Tszu or Fund close to what Canelo WAS. We all know why charla never fought canelo when canelo was in his weight class.
