I mean Wilder complaining about not getting paid on time from his last fight, fighters not getting dates, Broner becoming a full-pleged whistle-blower, young fighters in their prime being put on the shelves for long periods of time...
Ever wondered if PBC is the only one left for fans to rely on for their weekly fix of boxing events?
I can see many Martirosyans coming out to complain about not having fights for more than a year. Remember him? Vanes? He was forced to retire.
Yeah, I remember him, who can forget? He's not the only one who was being kept on the shelf during that time. So this thing about boxers fighting once a year is not new. His last fight was a rematch with Lara, then managed to secure a fight with Golovkin exactly two years later on HBO.
I'm pretty sure most of them want tuneups, but that will be more expensive than making them fight one another because you only need few dates.
They use to have a bunch of little cards, they don't even have that anymore, it was the crap they sold Fox and might be the reason the got out.
With the long roster of fighters they have very few have fights lined up. Either they are negotiating a network or they are going through financial turmoil.

Yeah, tuneups or showcase fights are basically waste of time for high-profile fighters nowadays. Like Adrien Broner said, you have to fight Godzilla to get the money you want.
When Broner said it he was referring to Crawford, who became his cousin because of the BLK connection, "he was not even fighting a nobody, he was fighting Spence, yet he was not offered guarantee money."
If I were Showtime's Espinoza I would just focus on making small but competitive fights like the Matias vs Ponce fight this Saturday. They're cheaper, easy to make, they don't involve divas who have so many excuses for turning down fights.
Let’s be real, who the hell is getting DAZN for anything other than boxing? Lmao they don’t broadcast anything significant in any other sport besides boxing.
Many people do. Some people have it for Darts, some for Soccer, some for MMA, some for that Misfits boxing nonsense.
DANZ has several sporting & no-sporting event WORLDWIDE so you're wrong, people have DAZN for more than just Boxing.
Charlo would soon be blaming himself for turning down lucrative fights that would have provided him more and longer vacations. Right now I see nothing for him other than cheap tuneups, which he has penchant for, that would probably net him $10K each, which is basically a waste of time with all the training he had to do. Adames is waiting and that's 3 times tougher than Jermall's last fight.
Clock is ticking fast for him and he will likely to jump ship with a heavy heart.

Lot of people up here get it for football and soccer. But I got it just for boxing. Cancelled after Usyk/Joshua 2 where technical issues caused me to illegally stream the fucking fight anyways.
Comparing DAZN to PBC is ridiculous. DAZN is a worldwide streaming service that just happens to broadcast Boxing, they could drop Boxing tomorrow and rely on their other sporting content to keep going.
Everyone lose money here and there, even Disney & Netflix loses money, DAZN has one of the richest men behind them...they'll be fine.
NOW PBC is different because they are not a streaming service, they are a Boxing advisory outfit that uses a promoter for hire (Tom Brown) due to the Muhammad Ali Act to put on their cards. They are heavily reliant on Boxing.
PBC is hurting and unlike DAZN, they don't have a billionaire to back them up...without Showtime, their finished.

These guys are just pawns, probably no one more so than Jermall, well maybe Wilder but atleast he was able to capitalize financially from those ass beatings at the hands of Fury. Jermall on the other hand allowed himself to be used as a pawn by his "advisor",essentially losing out on $14 million dollars ffs. "Loyalty" no doubt is a commendable quality to have but certainly not to the extent of what Jermall has lost out on financially. Just imagine where Malls career would've been had he been allowed to accept the Canelo fight and beat him?
Like you mentioned,he's now left fighting the Adames of the division for $500K,issued in IOU's. The guy has to have some regret, who wouldn't considering where his career is currently at.
PBC has a long roster and the majority of their fighters don't have a fight scheduled.
That's what I thought. And I opened a thread to determine the names,
https://www.boxingscene.com/forums/boxing-forums/non-stop-boxing/31682027-how-many-part-time-boxers-this-sport-now-have
I think many of these inactive fighters at PBC already have their own respective fights scheduled, Plant, Benavidez, Spence, Thurman, Lara is ordered to fight Golovkin, etc.
The only guy whose absence is now becoming more and more visible as days pass is Jermall Charlo. Nobody knows what happened to Leo Santa Cruz.

Looks that way considering how desperate PBC is becoming.
Same could be said for DAZN who went from 100$ to to 225$ a year. I am only going to pay 20$ for Bam and Vergil in April until further notice.
Too bad that we the consumers that pay for the fights, can't demand that the promoters cooperate to make the big fights happen like the UFC.
there are major signs. Broner recently said PBC dont pay them after the fight but rather slowly over time.
I also heard Broner state this on Ak & Barak and it makes no financial sense. Almost sounds like a loan to Haymon at 0% interest, or even some type of Ponzi scheme. Why not hire a financial advisor outside of boxing where there's no conflict of interest? Broner didn't even know what he was still owed by Haymon. Is Broner a one-off case or is this happening across the board?

What's interesting is that both PBC and DAZN are losing money hand over fist. The issue has to do with the fact that boxing is declining in the US yet fighters are STILL OVERPAID based on thier PPV and ticket sales! Promoters are losing money hand over fist paying these guys what they pay them.
If today's top boxers like Spence, Crawford, Charlo, Garcia, etc were only paid 1 million per fight boxing could still thrive for all the broadcasters and promoters. But guys want purses like 10 times that and they cant make it up in ticket sales and PPV. Boxing is getting hit big time.
In fairness, it's not just PBC. It is also DAZN and I honestly think both PBC, Showtime, and DAZN will die off and leave boxing very soon. This is the last year they are all done.

With the exception of Jermall Charlo, who is clearly his choice for being inactive, others with long unintended layoffs might be feeling stranded in a traffic they didn't expect to experience. They could be waiting for nothing. Six months of inactivity is long enough, let alone one year or more.
