Benavides is the new bogeyman. Failed to make weight and failed a drug test cause him to loose his titles. He failed to make a case for himself. I would like to watch Canelo against him at some point but if Canelo is going after Bivol he has to wait or go a different direction.

Billy Joe Saunders made David Lemieux look like a class C amateur when they fought, but when he stepped in the ring with Canelo, he ended up leaving with critical injuries to the bone structure of his skull and never fought again. Likewise just because David Lemieux was stopped in brutal fashion by Benavidez does very little to convince me that Canelo would fare the same, were they ever to meet. People were hyping up Callum Smith in much the same way as David Benavidez in the years before the fight was made with Canelo, and we all know how that turned out.
