But WHY? Not trying to sound overly naive, but seriously… It’s not like there’s any shortage of great black boxers. Isn’t it fun to see someone who looks different than you in a sport where it’s not common? Like the Jamaican Bobsledding team story, it’s fun to see people succeed (or at least give their best effort) in something where they aren’t exactly the stereotype. Don't listen to him. Like you said why would the fanbase with the most champions in boxing hate the fighters with the least champions in boxing. It makes zero sense.

I cannot get over how many likes, posts, and discussions my thread has started. I’ve always seen myself as one of the junior posters on NSB, one of the geeky, uncool nerds if you will. This has been amazing. Thank you ALL so much!!!

Prime Lomachenko (which he admittedly is not anymore) was one of the most athletic boxers of the last 50 years. I’d say around 2016 - 2017. But he made the mistake of going up too high in weight in my opinion. He’s got T-Rex arms and a Surfboard Body, which does not translate well to fighting from distance and clinching with boxers who are much larger and have a longer reach. Haney is going to most likely do to him what Fury did to beat Wilder. Utilize clinching, movement, leaning, and rack up damage from power shots. Lomachenko would be best off going back down in weight to catch a few more legacy fights with guy’s his size.

It’s always comical to see the fans … who stand behind any athlete who protests our National Anthem and flag. So patriotic, lol. I agree 100% how idiotic it is. Most people don’t appreciate how fortunate they are to live in this country. My father’s family were recent immigrants from central and Eastern Europe. My mother was born in Mexico. I love everyplace, and I’m proud to have ancestors from Europe, Latin America, and yes, a few from Africa. I love traveling, and learning about the Old World. That said, I’m PROUD to be an AMERICAN. I know how fortunate I am. To those who are American and hate America — I wish they’d go to wherever it is they think is better, because that would be a win-win situation as far as I’m concerned.

I choose my favorite fighters for their boxing style, ability, skill and how they challenge themselves. Whether they are from the U.S. or not isn’t important to me. I have been a fan of Hagler, Duran, Hearns, Jones Jr, Trinidad, Barrera, Pacquiao, Tyson, Lewis, Loma and many others. I appreciate the best fighters regardless of where they are from. It’s always comical to see the fans who claim you have to support American fighters but also rooted for Martinez over Pavlik, Canelo over Cotto and Plant and who stand behind any athlete who protests our National Anthem and flag. So patriotic, lol. Loma was a top 3 all time greatest amateur and won titles in 3 weight classes in his first 12 pro fights. He is exciting to watch, he has a fan-friendly style and he has never been in a boring fight. Several times these fans who hate him picked him to lose against Walters and Rigo who quit and Linares who was stopped. I see the same usual suspects on here after every Loma and GGG fight bashing eastern Euro fighters. Right on cue, and yes, the hatred is tribal. there are people out there with so much hate, they actually have to organize it by what they hate the most. Race, Nationality, Promoter, Network, etc etc They will hate a fighter of their own race and nationality, if that fighter is aligned with the wrong promoter or network. It's mind boggling......... Speaking to your point, I find it enjoyably comical how die-hard some supporters of Top Rank, Matchroom, PBC and the like can get. I think that those promotional companies are the closest boxing has to “teams”. So just like there are crazed fans of the Dallas Cowboys, or Manchester United, in much the same way, Matchroom has their own super fans. Lol.

Sports isn’t a bout “diversity”. Sports is about “fair” competition. I use quotation marks for fair because it’s an idealistic concept that doesn’t truly exist. As long as a sport is “fair” then its may the best man/team win regardless of anything else. Forced diversity in sports defeats the whole purpose. I only want to see more black golfers in the pro tour if more black golfers qualify for the pro tour. The reason blacks like myself call out the great white hype behind Loma is because it’s an example of systematic white supremacy. I don’t give af about white people wanting to see more white champions or whatever. The way Loma has been overrated and privileged should be called out. I get what you’re saying in your first point, and agree that sports, and everything in life, should be based on meritocracy. But using your example, the lack of black pro golfers in my opinion has nothing to do with talent levels, but is simply because it’s not a popular sport in the black community. I believe there would be many more successful black golfers qualifying for the sport if there were more who grew up playing it. Same way I believe there would be more successful Chinese pro boxers if they had a lot of gyms over there the way there are in, say, Detroit. I think that diversity in sports makes it so much more interesting and enjoyable. It’s why people enjoy the Olympics and soccer so much — pretty much everyone’s there. I don’t see how a white person supporting Lomachenko is a sign of white supremacy, unless the supporter ALSO states that all black boxers are somehow inferior. Personally, I haven’t seen much actual racism in boxing from whites towards blacks — or blacks toward whites — of people I’ve talked to in person, although I acknowledge that it likely does exist on all sides in a subtle form. Hence why I stated in another post that I try to police my own tribal tendencies in my support and fandom of boxers. I’m not convinced racism is a systematic thing in this era, although I do believe it exists in an isolated individual level. With that said, most white boxing fans I know love Mike Tyson, and most black boxing fans I’ve talked to love Tyson Fury, which would seem to imply it is an exception and not the rule. I can say though as someone who is part Mexican — and knows a lot of Mexicans — that Mexicans are sometimes subtly racist towards blacks, but I think that is mostly related to community tensions and street gang rivalries than anything else. I believe that racism does still exist, but I feel that it is far too often used as an explanation for negative circumstances with variegated causation. In other words, I feel that the concept of systematic racism is a tempting one to use as an explanation for many problems that likely have multiple origins, many of which have little to nothing to do with the concept of race. And while it’s easy to point to systematic racism, I have not seen adequate statistics to back up its existence, and while I initially was on board with the possibility of its existence, when investigating further, I found that the proposed solutions usually involved some form of Marxist ideology, which as a grandson of an Eastern European immigrant, is something I am very wary of for obvious reasons. I know how that kind of a political system impoverished people in my family… At any rate, I’d like to take the time to thank you for the conversation, I appreciate comments like yours even if I’m not 100% in agreement, because you clearly take the time to explain yourself and make a person think about things on a deeper level. You’re the sort of person I’d pay a drink for if we ever met in real life.

I’m not sure I’ve ever met a black American who wasn’t racist and borderline delusional. Get help. I doubt that you’ve ever met any black Americans. You like a woman projecting her BS on others. What are you talking about OP? People are simply saying the fight is close or that Loma is old which is fact. His best win is Linares. These are facts. I mean, that’s fair if you rate his best win as Linares, but I thought the Walters win was better than Linares. Walters was a really good boxer with power, and most didn’t expect Loma to beat him (I’m surprised he beat him).
