We’ve had Joshua, Fury, and Wilder as the main players at HW for years now. Usyk, the relative newcomer, is also in his mid thirties.
Even the supposed “prospects” like Joyce, Hrgović, Zhang, Yoka, etc. are not young anymore, either.
I’ve heard names like Anderson and Jalalolov mentioned, but nothing beyond that.
I’d go so far as to wager the only heavyweight currently who could compete in any of the past eras is Fury — and I didn’t say dominate all comers, but compete.
Wilder would shine in some eras, but prime Mike Tyson lights him up, Joe Louis sparks him, and the Greatest, Muhammad Ali, simply embarrasses him.
Usyk would probably be a titleholder in some weaker eras, but I don’t see him beating the Klitschkos, or Lewis, or Louis, or Tyson.
I have doubts he can beat Wilder and Fury.
And like I said, there simply are no terrifying heavyweight prospects coming up and threatening Fury and Wilder (like an Ennis or an Ortiz to Spence and Crawford at welterweight).
Are we just in a painfully bad drought at heavyweight, with no new blood coming down the pipe?
Thoughts?
Manny didn’t know the division would be so weak and Klitchko would have been around much longer like Vitali retirement . He could see Wilders opponents for several years because he was around the prospects like Fury and Jennings who he considered a top future contender when he was alive . Not really that hard to predict Fury vs Wilder would eventually happen when he can foresee years ahead being around Klitchko who sparred all the top guys coming up besides Fury .
To bad he wasn’t around to watch Wlad batter Wilder in sparring though I think his prediction would not be the same . If Fury had more confidence in himself we would have also got a great rematch at some point but Joshua stepped up and signed to fight Klitchko instead in 2016 . Lol
Manny Steward knew exactly what he was talking about, unlike you, who famously predicted Anthony Joshua was the going to be the greatest Heavyweight of all time. :lol1:
An idiot like you questioning the great Manny Steward’s opinion is truly laughable.
I may be biased here because he’s my little brother but Joshua Edwards is the one to watch. He just fought in the Strandja Tournament against Jalolov and put up a great showing. Scoring was atrocious but he learned a lot from it.

Check this tread. Ya want heavyweight prospects? https://www.boxingscene.com/forums/boxing-forums/non-stop-boxing/31535564-dr-z-s-top-15-heavyweight-prospects
I made a conscious decision to follow prospect Richard Torrez jr on social media after he nearly decapitated his last opponent.
Yeah, that was a scary KO.
Boxing is the only sport that peaked 50 years ago according to hipsters :lol1:
Yeah, stiff and slow 200 lbs Louis who regularly fought blown-up LHWs would "spark" Wilder. Actually hilarious.
Well, I have to disagree with you there. Louis was like a heavyweight Beterbiev with the technical acumen of Lennox Lewis. And Wilder at his best weight, would have only outweighed him by ten or so pounds. Louis had comparable, if not equal, power to Wilder, and not just in his straight rights, either. Wilder is quick but doesn’t have good stamina. Louis would break his rhythm and land a brutal chopping combo on him. If Fury (great as he is, he’s not exactly a power puncher) knocked out Wilder cold (as he did for a few seconds at the end of the trilogy bout), then I really don’t see him getting up from Louis’ best shot.
Bakhodir Jalolov in a few years might be a contender, he just needs to sit down on his punches more. He's a big lad and actually beat Richard Torres jr in the ams so that sets up a future pro fight between the two.
I heard Ali Bashir say it in interviews over the years ,he said Wilder was told to go home after being helped up . That was the real Manny Steward protege .
How do you feel about SugarHill claiming the mantle of Manny? I know he’s his nephew and all, but find it a bit of a stretch personally. That said, he seems like a decent trainer and he seems to have picked up a decent amount of his uncle’s wisdom.

Yeah didn’t Wlad spark out Wilder in sparring once? Like bad enough to give him neurological spasms and stuff? I thought I read an article about that some time back, quoting people who were there.
That Big Gurg guy that fought on Saturday looked decent to me - Coffie was fat as hell though and looked like a different guy than when he debuted, and was a late starter. So Coffie was a punching bag, but Gurg got to show off some quality combination punching for a big HW.
Not a lot coming back at him after round 2, he got hit with a couple but he rolled with some shots too, pretty good feel and vision I thought. He's not fleet footed but he took angles.
Not sure I buy he was 6'7", but that's what they said. 24 yrs old. I'm guessing he prob spars Frank Sanchez, Arreola and others with Goosen. I'd give him a shot at Sanchez right now.
as far as current Pros DDD, Anderson is as good as you're going to get, also Muslim Gadzhimagomedov been following him in the Amateurs. Bakhodir Jalolov is already 28 so not really young BUT a rising Contender with Big Power. Richard Torrez is solid BUT not sure about his height in this ERA
In the Amateurs Delicious Orie (25) from the UK stands out currently very Marketable, also the currently Number 1 Amateur Super Heavy who recently turned pro Lazizbek Mullojonov (23), nice scrap between the two here from last year

I think both can have success as Pros
Nothing on this side for the American coming out of the Amateurs at Heavy but I am following a kid out of Houston Joshua Edwards is 22 a very SLICK Heavyweight, doesn't look that tall though but some nice Skills and moves very well for a Amateur Super Heavyweight

Torrez Jr is listed at 6'2, not sure if that is exaggerated but it should be able to get him to the top 10 at least . He has marketability, hopefully they match him right and keep him active
Emanuel Steward did.
He specifically said 10 years ago, they'd be the two guys to rule the division:boxing:
Yeah that’s a great interview. Manny knew the division so well.
The vast majority of the public didn’t see much in either of them though.

Nobody stands out currently but in fairness would anyone have predicted Fury and Wilder to be the two top HW’s back in 2011/2012. The landscape can change very quickly in the HW division.
Emanuel Steward did.
He specifically said 10 years ago, they'd be the two guys to rule the division:boxing:
There aren't any. That's why everyone is still hung up on Fury, Usyk, Wilder, and Joshua.
It says a lot that a 43 year old Ortiz who can barely stand up, a completely disinterested Andy Ruiz, a 12 loss Chisora, a total no-heart bum like Parker, an "I thought he was dead" like Chris Arreola, and a stiff plodder like Joe Joyce are getting big fights.
Guys that are being hyped up as great prospects like Sanchez, Anderson, DuBois, Hrgovic? None of them seem like anything to me.
