24 rounds of excessive holding 2 unwatchable snoozefests. Both refs should have given warnings by the 3rd rd then points then it would have stopped. At one point during the match I saw haney fainting for the hug, I was like what the flip is going on here? Henry Akinwande was disqualified for excessive holding on lennox lewis. The refs job is not to be a fan but to do the job he is paid for. If your holding more than 10 times a rd I find that to be a problem.
To be fair, the way Kambosos was fighting forced the clinch to happen. He'd come charging in like a bull, uncontrolled. That's what happens when you have three months to change your fighting style. It looked like he was practicing how to fight Haney rather than fighting Haney, if that makes sense. If you come barreling in as Kambosos did, you have to clinch. That aside, Haney was up to his old tactics. I'm going to make a gif to show how Haney practices slipping and grabbing. Like I had said before, I've never seen someone slip and hug when they can slip and throw a punch. It's ****ing weird as hell.
Watch Klitschko-Fury, there’s plenty of it in that fight.
it is the OPPONENT JOB to do something about the Clinching, I'm consistent I said that about Sakio Bika, Andre Ward, Ricky Hatton, Bernard Hopkins, Wlad Klitschko...the opponent need to prepare for that. Mayweather fought Hatton, he was prepared for it!
The "GREATS" always Find A Way no damn excuses
Yes, they'll even find a way to point out to the ref without even being obvious that they're being held constantly.
...yet that is why fighters Clinch even more, knowing that the Ref is going to come step in, break and save them from having to fight inside
Chances of Ref Deducting a point for Clinching or DQ are very very slim
a few Low Blows and Dirty Breaks would be a nice way to deal with a Clincher, you have to get rough with them instead of again wanting the Ref to do something
I know what you're saying and you're not wrong, but in that scenario the guy who low blows or fights dirty is likely to be the one who gets warned or points deducted. There needs to be a change in boxing where refs start coming down hard on clinching and holding. It's the most calculated and egregious of fouls because it has the potential to completely sway the dynamic of a fight all under the ref's nose without any serious repercussions.
A low blow grabs your immediate attention, but strategic clinching is steady, consistent cheating that flies under the radar and is actually far more significant in the long run. Klitschko/Povetkin and Khan/Collazo are both glaring examples of this.
If one guy is a great inside fighter and the other a great outside fighter, the outside fighter is going to win more often than not in this day and age because they can just tie up when close and completely negate any possibility of inside fighting. For this reason inside fighting is becoming a lost art in modern boxing, which is a real shame.

No, it's the ref's. Clinching is a foul.

Lol are you serious please show me where Haney is fighting g off the clinch???? He uses it to stal the fight nothing else. Guys like Maidana, Cruz and prime Castillo would work nicely in the clinch but once they punch ref conveniently separates them. Cmon man no need to defend the horrendous trash Haney does it only hurts the sport and its been hurting it for a while now.
and yes it pretty much started with Floyd jab 1,2 tie up clinch rinse and repeat. They don't fight off no damn clinch get outta here with that BS for them it's a form of stalling till refs saves em plain n simple.
again the argument is for the OPPONENTS to take matter into their own hands and make Haney pay for his clinches it is not to defend his clinches. People want the Ref to take Points and DQ which is not likely...actually I think Refs instead should stay back and tell them to fight out and not break for them so if you want to grab then you have to fight out of it
Loma won't allow that he will spin out and push Haney off and go to the body, same with Tank
Both clinching and "inside" fighting are part of the sport but let's not confuse one for the other. What Haney has made a habit of ,jab>clinch is not "inside fighting" at all,it's actually the complete opposite. It's a tactic used to nullify the opponent from actually attempting to fight on the inside. It's effective but there's no sugarcoating that it makes for boring, less than fan friendly fights period.
Never said I liked and I'm most certainly not defending it, in fact I was critical of his 1,2 Fall In And Grab. Haney doesn't has a Inside Game at all he holds on and stare over at the ref to come and break now that is BS
that being said, I still say his opponents need to do something about it themselves instead of waiting for the ref to break Tuck those arms and make him pay for Clinching with nasty body shots
Loma, Tank, Shakur won't allow that

Not only was clinching always part of boxing, back then Ref did not break, they left the fighters to FIGHT OUT!
Inside Fighting aka "DIRTY BOXING" is a lost art, not many are good at it anymore so they just look over to the ref to come and save them instead of fighting out. Fighters shouldn't be saved from having to fight on the inside just because they can't do it.
That fact that you THINK it started with Mayweather confirms what I already knew...

Boxing has come a looooooooooooong way since then :lol1:
Most notably, no more 15+ rd fights.
The thing with clinches is to not wrestle a guy off of you.
Hands up covering your ears, elbows tucked (if possible...PROTECT YOURSELF AT ALL TIMES) and let the ref break yous up.
At the end of the round, let your people complain to the ref and threaten to protest if he doesn't do his job.
Wrestling with a clincher wastes energy and let's the ref off the hook.
Clinching is not part of fighting imagine a prize fighter in the street gets into it with a guy who just rushed him and holds we'll have a stalemate nothing happens. These fighters use that when it should be illegal it's not figting but for some odd reason officials don't wanna penalize a certain group for that.
That's trash and it started with Mayweather and ppl wonder why boxing gets so much hate by the masses.

Pissed me off and seemed suspect Linares did NOTHING for the first half of the last round letting Haney recover, dumbass.
