again this isn't to say he is better then those guys. strength, power, athleticism play a role in boxing, but I am talking in terms of pure skill
Lennox would beat Usyk, because of his skill along with his size and power, but does he have more pure skill than Usyk
Holyfield? Tyson? etc. etc. its hard to think of anybody really
Usyk has no inside game, but I rate him within today's era.
The blue print on how to beat him has already been shown.
Evander Holyfield was a more complete all round fighter.
Today's era of heavyweights do not have to be complete multi-dimensional fighters to dominate.
Tyson Fury is the only active heavyweight who can fight in all areas. Long range, mid-range, and inside game.
Fury gives it a go, he is not super elite in most area's 'But he still gives it a good go'.
But let me make this clear, I rate Usyk he is a phenomenal fighter. His long range, mid-range, and creative abilities are world class. Combine those attributes with his stamina, that is a really good heavyweight.
Usyk for me lacks power, and a true sophisticated inside game. Lennox Lewis was a complete fighter, Evander Holyfeild a complete fighter. Mike Tyson had a extremely highly sophisticated offense, that could simultaneously act as his defense. Usyk was having major issues with fighters in today's era with straight forward offenses, the only reason why he beat Chisora was down to Chisora fatiguing 'And this is a Derek Chisora miles outside his peak'.
I think skill for skill a fighter like David Haye on his night, would beat Usyk. He is just as fast, better defense, hits with more power by miles.
But once again, I rate Usyk when comparing him to other fighters in today's era. And? I am not totally dismissing the theory that he could have more levels of his game that he has not been forced to show. Maybe when he fights Deontay Wilder of Tyson Fury he reveals more dimensions to his game.
The upper limits of Uysk's abilities is unknown.
Well usyk is considered a genius by bellew. Genius must have skill. Holyfield was skilful. Not sure lennox would beat usyk
Lomachecko comes from the same gym, the same trainer with a similar angle style based on footwork, and Arum said he was better than Ali. That aged well. Let's see if the Ukraine Dossier can get past the Gypsy and the limited boxer who only needs about 5-10 secs for you to slip up.
Larry Holmes.
And yeah as previously mentioned Toney. He might have been a ****ing walrus at that weight but the skills were still there.
Larry Holmes's jab was almost a work of art.
Fury, Usyk, Wilder, are all levels above the very poor 90s crop. Those were dark times to follow HW when even Mike Tyson, Douglas' bitch, was top dog for a while. It's a shame for Audley Harrison that he was not around then. In his era, he was maybe top 40 HW, in the 90s, he'd have been King until Lewis took over and beat him by SD. Cash in
I would say he's up there. People keep overrating the past for everything because of nostalgia. I think every era could compete, not necessarily win, in any other era. Even a relative bum like Wilder, Charles Martin, or Stiverne could compete in past times even if that trio are the worst heavyweight champs of the past 30 years.
Watch prime Muhammad Ali. Most skillful heavyweight during his reign.
Outboxes his opponents with slick lateral movement, counters, jabs, combinations, and was very quick with his feet and hands too. Also had the heart and courage.
