Both fights were basically the same. AJ trying to outbox the much better boxer. He gave up the size and power and fought the fight he couldn’t win.
I really thought he gonna come out and throw the sink and fight like some baby-bull-diaz-against-marquez do or die type of fight. maybe Aj isn’t good enough to do that, or not stupid enough to do that lol, and usyk is good enough not to let him do that.
but yup it was basically same fight with a little more urgency from aj, he gave usyk the space usyk wanted and usyk did his thing. And yup he still didn’t fight like the bigger man.
He was given a decent game plan and advice and he was doing the right things in moments
but sometimes it’s just a gap in levels and you can’t bridge it and it is what it is.
People saying Joshua should’ve put it on him
more - it’s easier said than done. he tried that round nine and was spent and Usyk had his biggest round the next round. that would’ve just happened earlier.
You can’t really knock guy or his trainers. They did the best they could. that level is just a bit out of reach for him. No shame in it. That’s life.
I said it before the fight = Garcia was being flown in for a check.
Joshua took less risks and got the moral victory of going 12, but this is why Usyk is the man now and Joshua is not.
I don't know about Garcia being bad apart from saying he was up in the first 3 lol, switched it up body and head often but didn't alter rhythm or mix up enough and Usyk wised up to it, leant down after each body blow and avoided the punches aimed at his head.
Commentators on sky have to be some of the worst too getting a rock on when Joshua was hitting arms at one point lmao
stop blaming trainers, no trainer can make AJ what he is just not
Exactly
Garcia is arguably the best trainer today if he can't help Joshua no one can't.
Change in training, change in body composition = change in what you can accomplish. Canelo showed that in Golovkin II, being smaller and having better stamina. Ariza with Khan, Maidana, Pacquiao, Mikey were entirely different beasts.
Roach & Fortuna know how to train a high workrate fighter, and would’ve given him a better chance tactically, as Roach is much more of an “attack” trainer than Garcia. If he got Ariza I’d have picked him to beat Usyk. I’m actually kind of surprised Joshua didn’t get stopped.
Before the fight --> AJ will use his size advantage and bully him.
Fight --> AJ tried to box and got outboxed like always.
After the fight --> Crying, they robbed me, inshallah, mashallah. :lol1:
Joshua is so limited he's done
I think this is a situation where the fighter simply isn’t good enough. Had AJ been more aggressive he’d have got stopped, look what happened after the 9th when he emptied the tank.
Joshua could have had Dundee, Futch, Steward, Roach, Roger etc in his corner, he still wouldn’t have beaten Usyk. He’s far superior technically and no game plan will erase that deficit in ability.
Garcia teaches fundamentals. It’s a lot of “jab jab, jab some more”. And as far as I remember he’s never gotten a fighter over that final hurdle in an elite.
