If you follow boxing, you've heard the phrase, "styles make fights", meaning that a fighter might struggle against a certain style of fighter, even if the other fighter isn't as skilled.
IMO, this is the most overused phrase in boxing. "Styles make fights" only applies when two fighters are relatively close in skill. If a fighter is significantly more skilled than another fighter, then it doesn't really matter what style they have.
in the run up to certain fights people can be unsure how good guys actually are & so when the fight goes a way that surprises people, they might say styles made that fight, until the actual levels of the guys are decided on several fights down the line plus guys get better at handling certain styles and do better against them over time
