What a waste of great talent.
He was my favourite fighter before his hiatus/contract dispute. I never felt he really was itching to get back. He was part time after that. He dared to move all the way up to fight Spence, he was admired and also called foolish. He had people talking and some even believing. The problem is he didn’t manage to win a single minute of any round. He needed to do well enough to show that there was more substance than hype to that fight. He didn’t come close. He didn’t seem to gain any muscle for the fight either. He didn’t get stopped which is the most you can say.
He showed all his worst boxing traits in his last loss. I can’t say I was surprised. His heart had not been in it for a long time. I wish we could have seen more from him but in the end it’s up to him.
His brother is a good trainer. I don’t want to see Mikey get involved in any of that unless it’s in a way he can truly help.
I know fans really loved him at times.
Same vibe I got from him even when he was at his peak.. He was born into boxing, found out he was good at it and continued his families boxing lineage but didn't look like he had deep passion for boxing..
He is very smart and aware. He probably had/has other ambitions besides getting hit in the head but didnt have a choice but to box.
Great career though, one of the best technicians in his prime with KO power.. He should be set for life if he is smart with his earnings which I'm sure he is
Agree 100%. Mikey is a very smart guy, he could excel at alot of things. I wish him luck in whatever he pursues next.
He did the correct thing. It would be hard for him to make a comeback after his last couple of performances. He looked tentative and uncoordinated in both. Against Spence I could understand, but not that last dude.
Well, I could think of Jermall and Luis Ortiz if they accepted DAZN's multi million $$$$ offers.
Those offers are never going to come back.
Eddie Hearn was a stupid drunken sailor at that time.
It benefited a handful of fighters, which is not bad, but not the sport.
Mikey is retired. Wilder is retired. Who else did DAZN retire?

For good I think
he’s made good money, never really loved the sport that much and doesn’t seem to crave the limelight
He’s made great money and was quite smart about it also

I remember him saying that his first choice of profession would’ve been to be a police officer, not a boxer, But he was just around boxing and fell into it
Not a surprise, he often seemed detached and disinterested from the fight game for someone who was as skilled as he was. Even in the locker room of Bam this past weekend, he looked like he wanted to be somewhere else.

Mikey had said in the past that his heart was not in the game. Imagine if he was with those skills that he had. Too bad that promotional legal problems and then waiting around for big fights wasted his career away when he was at the cusp of his prime.
Good fighter that left so many good fights on the table. Hopefully he stays retired and enjoys it at its fullest.
