Super-Fly is the gift that keeps on giving! Best division in boxing for years on end now. Great matchups and great fights year after year. Tonight was the coming out party of Bam Rodriguez as he beat down Sor Rungvisai in shocking fashion. So what do you want to see happen at this weight now?
Let's start with what is already planned:
Tremendous rematch between Kazuto Ioka and Donnie Nietes for the WBO Belt on July 13th in Japan
Likely a rematch between Jerwin Ancajas and Fernando Martinez for the IBF Belt
Much depends on what Juan Francisco Estrada does. The Chocolatito rematch is a possibility, but it sounds like he is leaning towards defending the WBA title against Josh Franco.
So, how do things shake out after that?
Here's what I'd like to see (assuming Estrada/Franco happens next):
Bam Rodriguez uses this time with other guys tied up to go down to 112 for only one fight. WBC should allow him to hold onto his belt and challenge either Julio Cesar Martinez or McWilliams Arroyo for the 112 lb belt. If Martinez can still make the weight, awesome, Bam vs Martinez is an incredible fight. Personally, I don't believe JCM can make 112 anymore, so he should come up to join the party as well. So let Bam have a one fight foray into 112 vs Arroyo as Martinez comes up to 115 permanently with a fight against someone like Francisco Rodriguez.
Chocalatito vs the winner of Nietes/Ioka. A match of HOF'ers that has been danced around for a while. If it's Ioka, it's a homecoming for Roman in Japan. Incredible matchup of HOF'ers regardless.
SSR vs Cuadras 2. Two old, warhorses in a win or go home type fight. Loser could be done, winner is back in the mix. Would be a surefire war.
Bam vs Ancajas/Martinez winner. Unification of WBC and IBF belts, result of the first fight doesn't matter for unification purposes.
A lot also depends on the result of Estrada/Franco, as Bam will never fight his brother. Estrada could get a rematch if he loses, should he win, Estrada vs the winner of SSR/Cuadras 2 or Choco vs Ioka/Nietes are ATG type fights and set up the winner to unify with the WBC/IBF champ.
So many great permutations in this division. What fights are you guys most hoping to see?
Jesse Rodriguez (WBC Champion) just dominated Srisaket Sor Rungvisai
Juan Francisco Estrada (WBC Franchise/WBA Champion) is supposed to be fighting Joshua Franco August 20th.
Kazuto Ioka (WBO Champion)/Donnie Nietes II is July 13th.
Jerwin Ancajas is supposedly exercising his rematch clause against Fernando Daniel Martinez (IBF Champion) (supposedly in October).
Roman Gonzalez is also still in the mix.
The way I can draw it out is using best case scenarios is as such :
Kazuto Ioka beats Donnie Nietes in the rematch, Juan Francisco Estrada dominates Joshua Franco.
Kazuto Ioka and Juan Francisco Estrada meet on NYE card in Japan or anywhere before end of Year (this is possible due to Estrada dominating Franco and making up for the long lay off between March 2021 - Aug 2022).
Jesse Rodriguez fights Roman Gonzalez in End of October/Beginning of November (who ever wins this doesn't matter as long as it's a clean win).
Fernando Daniel Martinez beats Jerwin Ancajas in October.
Winner of Rodriguez/Gonzalez fights Fernando Daniel Martinez in February 2023. The winner of that fight then goes on to fight the winner of Kazuto Ioka/Juan Francisco Estrada in June/July of 2023.
Bam vs Nakatani
Chocolatito vs Ioka after Ioka retires Nietes
Bam vs Estrada after Estrada beats Joshua Franco
Chocolatito retires, Bam replaces him as greatest little man
Yeah, they're brothers.
So Bam is leaving 115 for now so Franco can get some shine. Which is admirable but also kind of a shame.
Didn't know that.
So sounds like Bam Rodriguez is going back to 112?
Bam Rodriguez vs Julio Cesar Martinez at 112 or 115. Throw Nakatani in that mix too, he’s a very good fighter IMO.
Gonzalez vs Estrada 3 and then the winner to face the winner of Nietes vs Ioka 2. I’ve wanted to see Gonzalez vs Nietes for years going back to when they both held titles at 105.
I wouldn’t mind seeing Franco fight SSR or Cuadras. Let him build his name a little.

Let me guess. You didn't even watch the fight tonight?
If not you missed a star in the making.
What do I want?
If Eddie Hearn calls Team Rodriguez and says, "I've spoken to Chocolatito's team and they're interested. Do you want the fight?".....I want Bam to grab the opportunity with both hands and go make history. Win or lose, a fight with Gonzalez is NOT one that should be turned down and it would only increase Bam's value. Choco is his Pacquiao, that type of opponent who you absolutely want on your resume.
I'm a bit slow but are Franco and Bam related?
Yeah, they're brothers.

I want them to continue doing what they are doing. Sadly most people do give a sh i t about these little weights but we basically just had a Fab 4 type of generation with Chocolatito, Estrada, Cuardas, and Rungvasai all going round robin producing great fights......and now we got Bam.
As long as they keep making these match ups Im happy.
Yep. That's the best fight to make.
Looks like it won't happen anytime soon, though. Because of Joshua Franco.
