If a unified fighter is making 5 million how much does he really make? I noticed that Castano and Charlo were paying 12 and 11 percent of their purses and it got me thinking. How much really comes off the top. 11 percent to the sanctioning bodies then 10 to your trainer unless there is a set price in place and 2 or 3 to the manager and then there are various other people to be paid such as sparring partners, strength and conditioning coach, nutritionist ECT ECT so how much would a fighter actually make with a 5 million dollar payday?
The 5 million is literally just a number thrown out I'm by no means saying that's what Charlo or Castano made.
Bernard Hopkins said his first million dollar paycheck less then half made it's way into his bank account but that's when he was with Don King, but I can't imagine it's too much different nowadays. Doesn't Al Haymon only charge 10% as a manager? I thought that's one of the reasons so many boxers went over to him.
I have seen great threads here from people who have personal knowledge about this topic.
What I recall:
Deduct
30 to 40% tax fee
10% trainer fee
3% sanction fee if it's for a title
let's not forget about promoter and manager fees.
I see your point and thank you for your service but that percentage on a huge purse is more my issue. If a fighter gives 120 grand on a million dollar payday what exactly is the org doing to deserve that kind of money
It's just another kind of robbery, or maybe extortion instead.
I disagree with those percentages too. But maybe they were high because he wasnt making much.
How much should a giy get for putting his life in the line?
I went into the army after 9/11as an airborne infantryman. I earned like $1400 per month.
Now if u make some kind of minimum wage for boxing, suddenly there be a lot of out of work boxers, because nobody would pay them to fight if theyre not worth that minimum price.

There should be serious regulations on stuff like that. That's a load of crap to do that to a man putting his life on the line just praying to make it big.

Who happens to a lot of lads especially those who don’t have national recognition as amateurs or can sell large numbers of tickets. That’s were for all the criticism MTK have had over the Kinahan links, they were great for the sport, they gave these sort of kids an opportunity and platform they never would have gotten elsewhere. It was allegedly and very likely money laundering but it was good for boxing nevertheless.
I can’t say who but I know a fighter who was paying 25% to his trainer and 25% to his manager. He wasn’t earning much too, was basically relying on individual ticket sales along with working part time to get by. That’s why I always tell people buy your tickets directly from the fighters rather than third party websites.

this is why you list their Purse LOW, not sure why fans are still confused by this
You list their Purse at $500K-1 Million+ and that is what your 3% Sanctioning Fees will come out of just that amount, instead of listing it higher and paying up MORE. So in Canelo Case neither Sanctioning Body is going force him to do anything he doesn't want to do at 168 as long as they get their 3% of his $50 Million+ Purses
Trainer, Entire Team should be 1099 anyway but I hear depending on who you with that you might be able to negotiated that your team get taken care of separate from your purse
I would guess less than half too. That's a ridiculous amount to pay out IMO.

In many cases less than half. Especially if you take tax and expenses into account. Trainers, managers, advisers often all take around 10% each.
