Hagler would be considered a hype job today. Those two losses before he was ever a champ would mean he got “exposed”
Also he would be considered a weight bully by todays fans. His biggest name opponents all started 2 or more weight classes below
The Great Nash agrees with the Great Deathofaclown. Past greats are held to lower standards than modern ones and therefore, assumed to be better, even though, they may not be. Hagler had a 50-50 fight with Fred Colbert, he was 1 point up after 11 rounds, and there was a strong case that he was behind at such a late stage in the fight before winning by KO. 3 years later, Colbert lost on points over 12 rounds to Ted Sanders (WHO?) Won 8 L11. Colbert was a hype job who beat a bunch of bums with padded records, so when Hagler beat him when Colbert was 22-0, it looks a great win on paper, but in reality, worse than beating Ted Sanders W8 L11.
Hagler drew over 15 rounds with Antuofermo, who is not in Charlo or Castano's class, and won a very close fight with Geraldo (w53 L15), who again, not in the class of these guys. The John Mugabi win was insanely overrated. Mugabi was a bum beating up cab drivers, after Hagler he started fighting other guys with a pulse and lost just about every fight. Hearns and the much debated Duran wins were very good, but let's not act like Hagler would not lose fights today, of course he would, and more! Nash out.
Inoue, Crawford, Usyk, Beterbiev ... those aren't hype jobs, just because your favourite fighter receives criticism does not mean all is skewed.
None of the fighters in the thread are hype jobs
The Charlo’s are top notch boxers, as are any world level fighters who get further than 99.99% of people that walk into a boxing gym with aspirations
