1st. DAZN started off offering 1-month subs for $9.99 with no ads or PPV ever and a 1-month free trial.
2nd. One month Free Trial Dropped.
3rd. Sub increased to $20 a month with no ads or PPV.
4th. Ads were added on top of the $10 increase.
5th. For the biggest fights, you must pay $79.99 for the PPV with Top Rank level undercards and ads shown between every single round of the main event.
All this within the span of four years while they hire 20 commentators for just one boxing event and a majority of them are terrible at their job. Does DAZN even consider the fact that their broadcast team is awful and that no one likes Chris Mannix? And they have the nerve to ask for even more money? Wanted DAZN to succeed but they want to fail.
What are you talking about, content? I pay a yearly subscription to DAZN to watch boxing, it’s $100/year. My 10 year old watches Disney+, it’s $80 a year. She like shows about horses, puppies and princesses, I watch boxing. If you like to watch boxing, Disney, Netflix and Hulu don’t show any.
I'm not going off of based of what you like, I strictly talking quantity and quality. If you feel you're getting $100 then good for you, I gave my opinion on how I view it. DAZN is putting out enough quality content to to justify me paying them what they are asking.....especially after then had already made several other promises and went back on them.
So you're saying I should pay $80 and still not be able to hear the corners in between rounds because an ad for some ****ty movie is playing? I'm dumb because I expect to not have video advertisements during the main event for an event I've already paid for? What other platform still inundates you with adverts $80 later?
Your kidding right? Everyone’s doing that. It’s another way to make more money. Who here doesn’t want to make more money?
DAZN is pointless tbh. I canceled when they raised it to $20 a month. No point paying $20 a month when they have a new ppv model for their big fights.
Also, they post a solidly detailed fight highlight video on YouTube a few hours after the fights conclude. You could literally catch all of the major fight moments in a condensed 10 minute YouTube video without paying a dime

Boxing is a nitch sport. Haymon was clowned by the major networks and DAZN dumped a billion into a nitch sport. DAZN should have purchased Haymon's 200+ fighter roster and platform at a discount and neg the R&R debt. There is their boxing content with bargain contracts. Only have to pay a premium to bring over top guys for 2-3 fight deals. Even Uncle Bob and Dela Hoya would play that game. If you had Haymon's roster, you have Canelo for 6-7 fights with 3-4 really big profile fights.
Dumb giving the GGGimmick an equity deal. He would take peanuts just to chase Canelo. Really dumb management decision there.
Haymon non-traditional model WITHOUT Ring Girls Extra level of dumb right there.

Long Live Uncle Bob
Yea, it’s real shocking to have to pay for a top notch, elite fight. You are a moron. Why don’t you just stay quiet so we all don’t have to know how dumb you are.

They have no choice but to have a PPV as Canelo isn't fighting anybody but mandatory bums or super cherry picks for 35 million a fight. The ethnic Turk out of Germany or Ryder are all of the guys that he would fight for 35 million.
Also this was the reason why he left Golden Shower productions as he felt he was worth more than 35 million a fight.

They need to put that money into the production. Replace all the commentators. ALL OF THEM. And the ring announcer? He looks like someone they pulled out of the local smoke shop. It's always so dark too like they can't afford the electricity bill. Their whole production just feels so cheap.
Give it another year or 2, they will look to sell it off to the Highest Bidder to maybe Discovery ultimately
Great Concept...AWFUL Roll out and Investing a ton of money into a Sport that honestly is not that Popular, at least not popular to build them the Subscription Base they need to stay in business Long Term
DAZN's original plan filed and now they're just throwing stuff against the wall to see what sticks.
PBC and DAZN both failed because neither of them could succeed at becoming the major league of boxing without putting the other out of business.
They more or less froze out the little guys like Dibella, Duva, Shaw, etc, but they were never a threat to one another or to Top Rank.
The real lesson here is that we did have a major league of boxing: HBO Boxing. It was built brick-by-brick over 40 years, and the idea that either Haymon or Hearn could walk in with a fat bankroll and not only recreate HBO, but something bigger than HBO, is now absolutely laughable.
5 years on the sport is so much worse off without HBO.
Hey it could be worse, you could be a Tank Davis fan and have to pay $75 to watch those garbage fights
Dazn was good at the beginning and it's still occasionally worth paying $20 if you can squeeze 2 or 3 cards into that months payment but I don't see the value of having it for a year anymore.
Espn is putting on the best fights at the moment on the basic channel. Showtime has a decent lineup coming but that's a pay channel also and their TV shows blow. HBO was the best of all worlds, boxing and great TV in one monthly fee.
Just earn big and throw cash around like you are the Great Nash. Nash doesn't care. Nash spends money on what Nash likes, every PPV, whatever charge, every channel, no fuss. Life is too short to stress over small £/$. Live like Nash. Nash out.
They charge more then Netflix, Hulu, and Disney for only a fraction of the content.

Is it really $20 per month now? That must have happened since I re-upped on the annual package. I like DAZN in that they have a lot of events, and show fights in many international locations. But they need to re-tool the announcers, although Sergio is ok.
But I sure won't pay $20 per month. You can have showtime and espn for less.
It's a business. Without enough subscriptions, some costs must rise and some big fights must be PPV. Don't take it personally, it's still about the best deal going with an annual subscription.
No, they blatantly lied to their consumers. In the beginning their whole schtick was killing off the PPV model and promising their consumers no PPV ever and will be strictly a subscription based model.
I mean they can't just continue losing millions and billions of dollars. You have to make money off fights where the purses exceed 50M. You aren't recouping the money off just subscriptions.
DAZN's goal was always to get sports rights to big sports leagues. That has not happened in the USA so they had to adjust their strategy. It happens.
I think the majority of the positive reaction to DAZN was about fans wanting Haymon to fail.
The fight’s were mostly low quality, other than the low weights which fans don’t really pay attention to, which is why subs never popped in America.
Anyone who read the numerous articles had to realize ppv was an inevitability.
DAZN also lacked a major sport to drive subs.
Good idea that may have worked better if it wasn’t an app bit a partnership with Fox m, NBC Sports or A channel like that.
That's what they get for betting everything on Canelo. And it looks like they still haven't learned their lesson. Canelo's bloated salary is going to kill DAZN once and for all.
