This Kovalev had been knocked out multiple times, was addicted to drinking alcohol, was 2 months off of a brutal fight with Anthony Yarde, and on top of that agreed to a ridiculous rehydration clause against canelo.
A prime Kovalev was just as good, maybe better than Bivol.
Canelo has NO chance against a prime Kovalev and ABSOLUTELY ZERO chance against prime ward, who would stop him just like he did Kovalev.
we can all make excuses about wins being fraudelent. Pac s wins over margarito fraudelent, Floyd s cw win over nel o fraudelent. But talk about nelo wins which werent
If that win is BS, then there’s no way you can call Canelo’s legitimate five years later
I think it's a decent win that has been used to bolster Canelo's resume above 154 and make it something that it's not. I think it's a travesty that Vegas even allowed Kovalev, who was in his mid 30's, to have such a quick turnaround when he was nearly stopped against Yarde. But in this sport money talks.
I do consider Ward's original win over Kovalev better. I thought Kovalev edged it but watching it a couple more times I could see how it was awarded to Ward.

What??? I am sorry but I have always said that fight was a joke and fixed.
To be fair to Canelo, Ward also beat a Kovalev who by his trainer's own admission was drinking heavily before the rematch. The POS Ward also tried to reach out to Kovalev's trainer to have him defect to his camp and still resorted to the typical tactics of low blowing to wear Kovalev down.
But yeah Canelo's win over Kovalev was BS.

Kovalev would have beaten weak-as-a-kitten, Vegan Canelo. Going Vegan beat Canelo, not Bivol. Viva la Mexican beef. Canelo will be back on the meat for the rematch. Nash out.

I always called this win a complete joke
Grab a dictionary and look up the word fraudulent.
Canelo beat Kovalev fair and square….]with a knock out.
I honestly don’t think you know what the word fraudulent means. Go finish your HS degree.
What is fraudulent is that many of you canelo fans claimed that this was his greatest win. That Kovalev was much better than GGG and how much Canelo improved since the GGG fight. Y'all said that Canelo didn't need to fight Bivol, Beterbiev, or Gvozdyk after beating Kovalev because Kovalev was by far the best of those 4 LMAO. He picked Kovalev in 2019 because Kovalev was the much bigger challenge than those 3. Hah.
2 years ago you said Canelo beat the best LHW in the world. And now you say he's too small for LHW lmao.
Admit the truth that this was a straight up fucking cherry pick of a fight where Kovalev was washed and had every major disadvantage in the world and designed to fool the casual fan.
Young fighters in their prime barely fight 2 months apart. Let alone guys at the tail end of their career who have been knocked out, and just gone through a war where they were almost stopped. I never thought he took a dive or anything crazy like that but he basically accepted the fight under conditions he knew made him have almost no chance at winning.
Well no one in their prime anymore fights that often but I meant more like developing prospects

Kovalev won the WBO (a lesser belt) against a pretty bad Shabransky, lost it and regained it to a pretty average Eleider Alvarez... Nothing to call your mom about ...
I'm sure you've called your mum for much less.
Yawn.
Canelo moved up two divisions to beat/KO a legit world champion. It's pretty amazing regardless how old he was.
Some people are so desperate to hate. Behave.
I'm not a Canelo fan btw, just a boxing fan.

Kovalev went life and death with a green Yarde, then Canelo's team called and made him an offer he couldn't refuse, they didn't give him time to recover from that grueling fight with Yarde. Kovalev basically just took the big payday knowing he had no chance of winning.
Kovalev was an excellent fighter for a few years, and let’s be honest, Andre Ward should have one loss on his record. Kovalev was a very skilled boxer too, his first fight with Ward showed it.
Sadly his lifestyle cut his prime short and losing took away his confidence too.
Yawn.

Kovalev had a case with the lady and her dog. Legal fees are expensive and he had to settle out of court in lawsuit central California.
Kovalev's weaknesses are big tittys, vodka, and body shots.
There is a big difference between fighting a top fighter at his absolute best and a slightly faded fighter handicapped with a rehydration clause. Canelo must have forgot and started believing his own hype.
Don't get me wrong, I think Canelo is a great fighter but those clauses were put into contracts for a reason. Some of those fights were easy because of them.
I wouldn't call it fraudulent. He did beat him fair.
But it was a shot, old, Kovalev. Not even the version that fought Ward.
If anything, we should just put that win into scope. Specially after seeing how ineffective he was against Bivol.
Kovalev was just old and at the end of his career when Canelo beat him. He hasn't even fought since 2019. Man is effectively retired.
