Sooo... what the hell was Canelo's strategy?
Didnt work the jab, didnt work the body, wasnt ready to counter ANY of Bivol's combos, had no head movement, no shoulder roll, no inside fighting...
Bivol is at his best when he's at a distance fireing his combos and then moving away. I thought Canelo would be able to counter over the combos or get inside where it isnt Bivol's comfort zone. None of that happened. He had no idea how he wanted to play this.
I want to give Canelo credit for moving all the way up... but now, seeing his lack of preparation, I wonder if he didnt think he could just wing it and still win.
No kind of strategy would have got Canelo the win.. he fought a much bigger dude with skills and wasn't scared of him like the previous mental Midget LHW's that fought him.
Bivol's punches where having so much effect on Canelo. You could see the deer in the headlights look on Canelo's face " like of **** this is what LHW punches feel like ".. Hid little ass needs to go down and stop messing with them LHW's. Imagine what Beterbiev would do to him lol
I think it does something like this. Is Canelo a bigger puncher than a fully hydrated Browne? I think after the Bivol fight he definitely isn't a stronger puncher than Joe Smith. Lastly, the fanboys said the fight would be different if he fought Beterbiev or Joe Smith? Even though they are in his face, do his punches faze them? Montero made an observation that as with Chavez Jr/Fonfora, Canelo's punches never really snapped back Bivol's head back. Bivol walked through the uppercuts and didn't really respond to the hooks around his guard other than moving him a bit. I'm talking wobble or visibility hurt?

Admit I thought Bivol would take a payout like Kovalev and Malik Scott vs Wilder
Also, Hearn lied. There was a clause written up for the fight.
Bivol deserves credit, Im not going to take that away from him, but he fought his usual fight. Canelo didnt seem prepared for what Bivol always does. Doesnt make sense.
The problem is that Canelo is and will always be a B+ fighter who was very much protected. Even when Bivol f;.,d up the cards were 115-113, so go figure.
I mostly agree. Canelo though he could go into a toe to toe war with a full LHW and was gravely mistaken. He's just to small. I think if he boxed and played more with his defensive abilities he'd do a lot better maybe even potentially win. He just need to not get hit. Which should be more obvious when moving up higher in weight.
He didnt have much of a defensive strategy either.
Canelo has started falling in love with his power which is extremely overrated, and now thinks he can walk guys down and throw single shots. But maybe there partly down to his poor stamina, he has to fight with low output. He was spent in the Bivol fight because he had to work at someone else’s pace.
Canelo isn’t really a one punch knockout guy, he can, but that was mostly at lower weights with fighters that had been stopped before like Khan, Kirkland etc,
let’s look at the reality, he did stop Saunders but it was more of a freak injury that may not happen 98 times out of 100, at no point did he ever look like he could even drop him. He hit Callum Smith at will, couldn’t drop him or hurt him really. Jacobs has been dropped before and stopped but Canelo couldn’t hurt him. The list goes on. Plant was worn down more than anything.
But he’s started fighting in a way that require single shots being hard enough to do damage but hasn’t really got the power for that at 175 against someone as good as Bivol
He was trying to intimidate Bivol with his presence, speed & power. He came in to bully Bivol like he did Caleb Plant/Callum Smith etc, That was the strat. Bivol though needed to be respected and boxed up more.
I think it was more not having the energy to execute anything at all.
His lack of energy after 5 or 6 is still a little puzzling. He looked like he wasn't feeling well and I'm not entirely convinced he was all due to Bivols punches but certainly a factor. At anyrate I'd like to see what could happen if he comes in with a better energy supply and boxes instead of trying to go for the KO.
In terms of the original plan, I think it was horrible. It was one dementional.. Go for KO. We didn't see Canelo play to his best abilities head movement, counter punching, fainting, leading opponents into his punches. Also think you might be on to something with Eddy. None of his plans worked this year and they've definitely gotten lazier.
He used to always gas out late. What’s more puzzling is how that stopped happening, not it happening again
Doing the same thing he always does. Throw every single ounce of his weight behind his punches. It's worked up to this point, so hard to argue with the results, but he couldn't adjust. Quite sad to see him trying to do the same thing over & over which wasn't working. Reynoso might've got exposed a bit as well. It's like they had no plan B.

He thought that he was going to beat him up like he did to Smith and it didn't work. He needed to do more body work but Bivol blocked most of those shots and kept him in an ineffective distance.
the punch canelo threw in the 1st round that landed on bivol's shoulder was so not like canelo... that was his KO punch and he threw that with intention and when it landed on bivol's shoulder only, i was LOL. that was out of character for canelo... i never seem him look so out of place like that. i dont know if that punch was intentional to land on bivol's shoulder or if canelo misjudge the distance but after that punch i knew canelo wasnt gonna win the fight.
He looked offended that his punches weren’t hurting Bivol lol.
I think It was the fourth that Canelo landed an uppercut flush and Bivol walked through it like it didn’t phase him. When that happened I knew it was over.

Throw power shots to either tire Bivol out or disable his arms to prevent him blocking. The problem is Canelo showed no jab and only relied on power shots, thinking that Bivol would be hesitant due to his power.
in the 1st round when canelo threw the first big punch and it landed on bivol's shoulder... i knew the fight was over for canelo... that was his bread and butter punch and when he threw that punch with so much force and it landed on bivol's shoulder, the fight was over for nelo..
Oh it wasnt that early for me. Later on when I saw that the uppercuts had no effect, I realized that Canelo couldnt power punch he way out of that one.
But no plan B or C?
Canelo didnt come prepared. I dont understand why, other then he probably expected a cakewalk.

A lot easier to watch that style than to fight it. Bivol does all of the small things perfectly. What people laugh and say “no special effects” wins fights. Fundamentals.

Bivol’s distance control and footwork neutralized Canelo’s plans.
