Anyone Else Just Wanna See Stevenson Move Up To LW Already?

Move to the division where the top guys aren't fighting each other? Nah. Top Rank could get him Navarette moving up and Loma moving down. I just want to say that this is the best argument I’ve seen against Stevenson moving up. It doesn’t exactly convince me, but it’s better than that whole “he won’t have a legitimate legacy until I decide he has officially cleaned out Super Featherweight, because reasons.”

No......I am absolutely tired of fighters having 1 to 2 big fights in a weight class then moving up. Clean out the division before you move up. I am tired of this "one fight then move up" stuff. Its lazy, paper chasing, and historically inadequate....sick of this fast lane to stardom and money none sense. I would agree but Shakur has the Ring belt also. I have no problem with him moving up.

I wouldn’t go so far as to say he whoops Haney and Kambosos, but I can see him being a major challenge for either of them. I can imagine scoring a win over a lot of the top guys at LW; I can also imagine him losing against any of them. But that’s what gonna make it exciting for us spectators. No chance in hell Stevenson loses to Kambosos or Haney. Far too skilled for those two guys. Tank’s power is a potential equaliser but I’m pretty confident Shakur UD’s him too. Loma is possibly the only guy with the ring IQ to match him I don’t particularly like this Shakur kid but he’s a truly special talent. I don’t see anybody beating him anytime soon tbh.

Would be better for him professionally, personally and the sport if he fights the other champions and unifies. He better do it quickly then. I doubt Davis, Lopez or most of the other guys are gonna stay at LW forever.

Yeah definitely. Gutierrez and Ogawa are easy work and a waste of time. He’s big enough and talented enough to go to 135. I think he whoops both Kambosos and Haney on the same night as well tbh. The only guys I see troubling him at 135 are Loma and Tank but I make him a favourite against both. I wouldn’t go so far as to say he whoops Haney and Kambosos, but I can see him being a major challenge for either of them. No no and more no.......legacy is just not built on names. Broner did exactly what u are saying and has 0 i mean 0 to show for it. Most kids today want to take the broner route. Its lazy, paper chasing, and historically inadequate none sense. From hopkins to crawford......the truly great fighters fought and cleaned out their divisions. What is this? Shakurs first big fight and u think he is actually worth moving up and picking and choosing which stars he would like to fight? Thats the broner effect. Chasing money rather then putting in the actual work and thinking u are worth more then what u have put in. This kid needs to clean out his division (if he can) then we can talk....... No, this is just me wanting the most exciting fights while they can still happen. I don’t care about whatever arbitrary standard he needs to meet in order to supposedly deserve to move up and try to take on the people I just mentioned. The greatest fighters fight best competition they can possibly get and there is no competition tougher and more potentially rewarding than whoever is at Super featherweight right now. Taking the easy path would involve spending years at the same weight class beating the insignificant guys there and then finally coming up to LW by the time all of its greatest competitors are gone already. Again, and I must stress this, all the stuff you just said he apparently needed to do first is mostly arbitrary. What rule says he must clean out Super featherweight first? Why can’t he at least move up and beat the lesser guys at lightweight like Nakatani, Commey, Lemos, or Fortuna to make his way up to challenging the bigger guys? So, what if Hopkins and Crawford and others took the route you described? Stevenson can find his own path. Like I said before, him moving up to Lightweight as soon as reasonably possible opens up the doors to a lot of exciting, fan-pleasing matchups. The longer he stays at his current weight class, the less likely these fights will happen at all let alone while they still matter.

Even though the competition is much tougher, more interesting and overall at Lightweight than Superfeatherweight? Going up to lightweight during this period where it’s so packed with big names and talent is daring to be great. Staying at Superfeatherweight long enough that most of the big guys at LW have either moved up to higher weight classes, retired or aged past their peaks would be doing it the easy way. There is no scalp Stevenson could collect in his current weight class that would be as big of a boost to his legacy as Davis, Garcia, Kambosos, Lopez, Haney or even Loma (hopefully he gets to come back before it’s too late). He’s probably not in a hurry to move up at this point, but can you imagine how great that would be for boxing? Sure, lightweight has plenty of talent already, but who’s to say it can’t have more? Make arguably the sport’s most exciting division right now even more greater. The matchups that could be had, the legacies that could be created! While we’re on the same track, if Chris Colbert makes a successful comeback I’d also want to see him step up to LW. I’m also sure Josh Taylor has plans of moving up to welterweight, but I really hope he does it soon. Of course, he should make a title defense against Zepeda before he does. And maybe Teo Lopez too.
