Subriel Matias and Jeremias Ponce both won their first-round title eliminators, then had unrelated fights after.
Matias won his brutal barn burner rematch with Ananyan and Ponce had a much less notable fight with some Venezuelan journeyman he stopped in the 2nd round.
Now I'm not always so in tune with the behind-the-scenes politics and matchmaking of the sport, but are these men going to fight each other next or what's going on?
If the fight does get made, I don't give Ponce the best chances and am a little worried for the kid honestly. He has a huge heart though and a similar unlimited stamina engine to Matias. Matias' hooks are much shorter though and it's almost impossible to beat him on the inside. Ponce has a great left hook to the body but it is a little wide and he will have to walk through fire to let it go. Neither fighter show too much defensively either so this should be an all-action war for as long as it lasts.
Any thoughts?

The way I understood it was that Ponce is the mandatory but if Taylor was to vacate the title would go to the winner of Matias-Ponce. Right now the WBC would be up next in the title rotation if Taylor stays at 140 so probably nothing going to happen with the IBF for a little bit.
Thanks that's pretty helpful. I forgot I posted this thread then went on vacation lol...

RIVALS ‘Zero class’ – Josh Taylor taunts Jack Catterall as he is dropped in WBO rankings after controversial result and could now be denied another shot

Yeah, this bozo Josh Taylor needs to drop the belts and go fight Terence Crawford already. Why is this fraud holding up Subriel Matias vs. Jeremias Ponce? He's probably working on a deal before vacating, that way the news will minimize the ducking of Jack Catterall.

A four-man IBF tournament kicked-off with Subriel Matias vs. Batyrzhan Jukembayev and Lewis Ritson vs. Jeremias Ponce last year. Matias and Ponce advance to the finals, what is the hold-up? Josh Taylor.
Subriel Matias team took the rematch with Petros Ananyan on a moral basis and the near certainty that Josh Taylor would of vacated around this time ; unfortunately plans did not go too well for Josh -- what is he waiting for? DROP THE BELTS 'TART-TOMATO', and go get your ass kicked by Terence Crawford or decide if you want to avenge your loss to Jack Catterall. We need answers.

Promoter Juan Orengo of Fresh Productions Boxing stated that, “We were looking for this rematch for a long time. Ananyan is a winnable fight and Subriel will show that he will be Puerto Rico's next superstar.
“What is already spoken is that after the fight, Subriel will fight for the vacant IBF world title against Argentine Jeremias Ponce because the undisputed champion Josh Taylor will vacate all the titles after his February fight to go up to 147 pounds."
“This rematch is necessary,” Matias told BoxingScene.com of his upcoming rematch with Petros Ananyan. “ I want to become world champion, but I need to avenge this loss in order to make things right in my career. I need to redeem myself.
“Before I can even think about becoming world champion, I need to focus on redemption first.”
