Canelo really shouldn't be fighting at 175 lbs

Benavidez could head Canelo off at the pass and try to beat Beterbiev. That way if the 175 lbs division is going to be unified then Alvarez has to see El Bandera Roja. But naw, Benavidez is fighting David Lemieux instead. :lol1: LePue is OLD and has ZERO gears. That fight is a joke.

Bivol is supposed to be on the smaller side for a light heavyweight. Yet in the faceoffs for promoting this fight you can tell he is significantly bigger than Alvarez. Yet Canelo is going for it anyway. A tip of the hat to him for challenging himself and chasing legacy. More boxers need to start taking risky fights. Within their own weight class at the very least. Bivol is a really good opponent. Not only is he bigger he is actually a decent champion. Theres a thin line at this level and if Melo not firing on all cylinders a 2nd loss is due. You can have off night against bums and still win but bivol isn't anyone. When you look back this is a great win to have in bag

Wrong, canelo isn't trying to drain bivol here.. He does not need to, Bivol weight drains himself. Listen guys, as you can see? I don't have much contempt for fighters who weight drain or do big weight cuts in the lower weight classes. It is always a talking point, and it is a boring one 'That needs to be eliminated'. I am not sure why people stick up for fighters, who opportunistically try and be the big man. You have to ask yourself the question, deep down why do they do it? They do it, because deep down they know their skills are not enough. So they need some sort of advantage, even if it is a completely backwards advantage that will back fire on them eventually. I don't think Bivol will beat Alvarez, as I don't rate his skill level very highly. He has decent strength and endurance, but apart from that? His actual skill level is only satisfactory. Your analogy of fighting Mike Tyson at 190 pounds is not comparable to Mayweather Junior vs Alvarez. 1: Mike Tyson weighed in at approximately between 215-225 pounds at the peak of his career. So by fighting you at 190 pounds, YOU would be forcing him to drop 25-30 pounds '25-30 pounds'. You can see the math, this is not comparable to a mere 2 pounds. Alvarez was at the peak of his physical abilities, he stated he could drop to 150 pounds and beat Mayweather Junior 'But he was beaten 12-0 to 12-1 easy'. Floyd Mayweather Junior was nowhere near the peak of his powers, he was there for the taking 'His fights after Alvarez were proof of this'. Canelo Alvarez tried to be the big man vs Floyd Mayweather Junior and it all back fired. You cannot be the big man all of your career, sometimes you have to actually fight fighters your own size. Bivol is a 6ft 200lb man. Canelo is 5’7” 175/180lb guy, tops. Im talking about their walk around weight, not when In training camp. Everything Abel Sanchez said about GGG, “154-175” anyone can get it”, was actually fulfilled. Not by his own fighter. It was by Canelo :lol1: Now he is about to fight the youngest of the top 3 at LHW, and the one most close to his age. Bivol has a very high chance of beating Canelo. Legitimate threat. This guy isn’t just big and taller, he is highly technical. Bivol isn’t some bigger/taller punching bag. Canelo needs to come at his A+ game, ready for 15 hard rounds, and even then, he could still lose. Because let’s be honest here, Bivol isn’t going to come lay down for Canelo. He isn’t going to just allow Canelo to walk out of that ring with no marks like everyone else has. GGG was more like “Anyone from 147-160. Anyone above 160 must agree to catchweight. Except Chavez Jr because he sucks so bad I wouldn’t want to give him anymore disadvantages.” Canelo has fought a handful of fighters that his critics said he would never fight. Lara, GGG, Jacobs, Smith, and now Bivol. GGG hasn’t fought one fighter that his critics said he was afraid of. Canelo, you give him the name, if they prove they are good with their resume, he WILL fight them.

I'm not a fan but its true, Canelo is not a legit 175lb fighter. He sort of takes risks but in a measured way by carefully selecting opponents that suit his style and are beatable. Bivol is a quality fighter but he is the best suited fighter for Canelo because he is not aggresive and fights at Canelo pace.

Todays generation of fighters talk big and do nothing. Daring to be great ISNT part of their character. I don’t see these kids trying to be like Pacquiao, Canelo, Hopkins, RJJ and so on. They only dare to be mediocre and make money safely. How exciting.

To me thats the big part. I get no thrill out of a boxer moving up to a weight he doesn't do his best (or at least near his best at). This is sports, and athleticism (including size) matters in sports. I'd rather see a fighter be at his best, meaning at the weight he feels he is relatively most dominant in, then moving up in wieght to fight at less than his best.
