Canelo Alvarez vs Joe Smith on Cinco de Mayo 2022 and then Canelo vs Beterbiev at 175 in September 2022!!!! LFG!!!!!
What do you think of a Canelo Alvarez vs Joe Smith Jr. fight???
Top Rank vs Canelo is not a thing. TR vs GBP and PBC is a thing. Canelo has no issues fighting a TR, PBC, or Matchroom fighter. He's been on DAZN and Showtime in 2021. He would fight on ESPN PPV in partnership with TR.
Arum explains in an interview published today, that Canelo wants Joe Smith Jr and then Beterbiev next. It's common sense why. Well I hope it's common sense.
If Canelo was willing to fight Trout at 154, and Mayweather Jr at 152lbs, why not Lara at 154?
If Canelo was willing to fight Chavez Jr at 164lbs, why not fight GGG at 160?
If Canelo was willing to fight GGG twice, at 160, why not Jacobs at 160?
If Canelo was willing to fight Rocky Fielding at 168lbs, why not Callum Smith at 168?
If Canelo is willing to fight Makabu at Cruiserweight, why not Mairis Briedis at Cruiserweight?
If Canelo is willing to fight Oleksandr Usyk at Heavyweight, why not Tyson Fury?
The last one is an exaggeration, but on par with Canelo critics' rhetorical questions.
So what you’re sayin is that Canelo isn’t going to/shouldn’t have to fight the best available competition? Again?
What's the catch? He fought old Kovalev and had to drain him with 2 rehydration clauses. You are telling me he is going to fight these guys straight up, no tricks or PEDs? Let's put this in perspective. Thomas Hearns could spark guys under 160 with one punch but fighters above 160 could absorb his power. You have a 5.7, flat-footed fighter who can't stop Angulo and Chavez Jr but he can take on the bigger men all of a sudden. This has to be the most fraudulent generation of boxing ever. What's next, people are going to try and put this clown in the same sentence with Ali>
So you think Canelo is undefeated?
You shit on rehydration clauses, surely you won’t rate a catchweight fight, his one loss against May had a you guessed it….catchweight clause! Catchweight clauses are even worse.
You can’t knock everyone out, and just because you knock out one guy, doesn’t mean you automatically knock out another.
Are you new to boxing?
If Joe Smith wins this fight I think Canelo vs Smith at MSG on Cinco de Mayo 2022 would be sick!!!!!!
Followed by Beterbiev in September; helluva year!
Isn't Joe Smith fighting Callum Johnson? Be a bit strange to announce this one now as that's a 50-50 fight. Nash out.
Yes, I'm actually going to that fight on Jan 15th. It's 15 mins from my house where the fight is taking place at the casino I used to work at.
No way Canelo fights a journeyman like Dirrel on Cinco de Mayo, especially if he’s only fighting twice in 2022.
You don’t think so? I mean he already has all the hype behind him right now and I feel like his team won’t want him to fight someone that might derail the fight with Benavidez. At this point for a tuneup fight I’m sure people aka casuals they’ll still end up buying that crap fight on Cinco for his comeback. Don’t get me wrong I rather Alvarez fights someone else but who else has some sort of value at 168?

Can’t see him fighting Dirrell on cinco de mayo
Needs a bigger name or they’ll cinco de mayo his azz lol
I still believe Canelo is going to end up fighting Dirrell for a tuneup in May and Benavidez at the end of the year. Maybe after that if Charlo still doesn’t go up to 168 Canelo is not going to wait for him and he’ll end up going to 175 in 2023 to fight those guys. But if he chooses to go to 175 a fight with Smith as a tuneup is not a bad fight for a comeback in May

After all this and that , I’d say Beterbiev in 2025
Makes perfect sense; he’ll be older , shopworn and ready for his first loss
Ahhhh , Mayweather taught you well CaneloSon
Best example I can think of in recent times is Ward really getting dominated first couple rounds of the Kovalev fight and getting dropped. But hanging in there to pull off the win. Floyd getting roughed up by Maidana and caught clean a few times but making the necessary in fight adjustments to pull off the decision in that first fight. Wilder in his last fight against Fury sort of. Jacobs, maybe getting off the canvas against GGG, but it's not like he was getting pieced up before that and GGG let him off the hook after he dropped him. Saunders I don't know if I've ever seen it, he faded in the Eubank and Lee fight. GGG I don't know if I'd ever seen it, maybe the opposite, he's never shown that willingness to walk through fire, although to his credit his rally rounds 9-12 of the second Canelo fight was impressive and often gets overlooked. That's probably the best GGG example I can think of, to me he was clearly losing that fight but dug pretty deep to take the last 4 rounds on my cards. Impressive rally BUT still didn't show me that he was willing to take the type of risks a Smith would. Lara, obviously the same thing getting off the canvas against Angulo.
But the adversity I'm talking about with Smith is the ability to stay in a fight despite being less skilled, but never for one minute thinking the fight isn't going to go your way. Joe Smith may get his ass beat for 12 rounds but he'll walk through fire for 36 minutes to land that big punch.
You could also say that same about Angulo I guess when Canelo fought him, but the difference is Smith is 20-30lbs bigger, hits a lot harder, takes a punch much better, which is very commendable for Canelo to fight a guy like that.
One other thing on the styles make fights point. Smith isn't gong to be afraid to get hit by Canelo. For an example yes, even though Kovelav was impressive against Eldeider Alvarez the second time around, it was pretty obvious who was more scared of the other's power. But when Smith fought him he didn't care what Alvarez was throwing back at him. That's a tough guy to deal with despite the lesser skill.
haning in there to pull of the robbery
I'm as big a Canelo critic as anyone, he'd get a lot more credit from me for beating Smith than Kovalev
BUT he is still targeting the weakest champion, yet again, its pathetic.
Once again choosing the weakest champion? Notice a trend? lol

Interesting.
What do you think about the following fighters and their experience with adversity: Mayweather, Jacobs, Saunders, GGG, Lara.
?
And how would you define adversity in boxing?

Anyone who has ever fought before knows that will is more important than skill when you're up against someone as good as Canelo. The most important thing is knowing how to deal with adversity. We've never seen Canelo in a dog fight except maybe the 2 GGG fights, but Smith is one of those guys that can take a lot of punishment but fight a full 12 rounds and constantly keep coming at you. He knows how to deal with adversity and Canelo has a history of fighting boxers who are the opposite, people like Kovalev who are mentally very very weak and fold under pressure. He'd be a big favorite over Joe Smith but I'd still give him a lot of credit for going up to 175 and beatng a tough guy like that who keeps coming at you, it would be an impressive win.

Canelo has a very good relationship with Bob Arum, I seen them together a lot.
I'd have no problems with him winning a belt against Smith at 175 then going back to 168 to face Benavidez, Andrade, or Charlo. These are all great fights for Canelo. I'm as big a Canelo critic as there is, but he doesn't need Beterbiev for his legacy, people hate on the guy but look, Beterbiev is a very different animal, he's a lot more skilled than guys give him credit for, I'd even say he's more skilled than BJS, Plant, and Saunders, the difference is that he's much bigger, hits like a mule, cuts off the ring brilliantly, and is very heavy handed. Plus he'd have a huge size advantage over Canelo. That's a lot to ask for for Canelo and doesn't need Beterbiev for his legacy but more power to him if he actually takes that fight. I'd have no problems with him gong back down to 168 though for the other good fights. As for me I never understood why GGG was so high on the p4p list but Artur Beterbiev is not, Gvozdyk win was much better than anything GGG ever did.
