If Canelo becomes a Cruiserweight champion in May, would you rather see him fight Benavidez at 168 or defend his Cruiserweight belt against Andre Ward?
Andre Ward is 37, and he'll be 38 if he fights Canelo next year, but he's had half as many professional fights as Canelo. Ward already got into the Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility and his last fight was against Kovalev in 2017, so I feel like a Canelo fight for a Cruiserweight belt in 2022 is the one & only fight that could get Ward out of retirement. If Ward doesn't fight Canelo in 2022, then I think there is zero chance that Ward ever fights again.
It seems like Canelo is just going up for one Cruiserweight fight to get a belt in a 5th weight class, and to prepare his body for fights against Benavidez and the Light Heavyweights. But would you rather see Canelo stick around Cruiserweight for a fight against Andre Ward, or see Canelo go straight back down to fight Benavidez?
To complete the farce?
Seriously, does anyone actually believe Canelo is going to face Makabu at 200 pounds??
If it happens, it will be at 190, which is fine I guess but it will be more like a vacant title since there is currently no title holder at 190.
And then, instead of fighting a real challenger for the new title, fight Andre Ward who has done squat since his "wins"** over Kovalev nearly 5 years ago.
Id like to see him fight other champs in whatever weight class he wins a belt at. 160 shouldve been it. 168 is a soft division and he won all the belts, no fights there other than MAYBE David. He won a belt vs old Kov at lt heavy so theres plenty of fights there. If he wins vs Mkabu like hes expected to, because Mkabu is the weakest link there then why not try there too? Whats good for the goose, right?
Fight Andre Ward no doubt.
But Andre Ward isn't Floyd. I don't think he can come out of a lay off and just go right back to dominating top talents.
He'll need that tune up fight first and THEN fight Canelo.
That's the only dude I can imagine actually beating Canelo at this point. But I also think Ward doesn't want to box professionally anymore, at all.

Ward isn't coming back,& I doubt Canelo Would cherrypick him next as he would get zero credit for Ward at this stage. Wards legs are completely shot to sht,I saw a video he posted where he had to use a spin effect on the vid software to hide just how god awful he looks,he looked like jack Leland training in all honesty.
