For starters, I’ve never seen a fight with more low blows (by both fighters) that didn’t even get a warning.
I don’t recall a closer fight. I only saw two rounds that I thought had a definite winner.
I thought Fulton ecked it out but I could definitely see how anyone could say the same for Figueroa.
Those two cards for Fulton by four were BS.
I scored it a draw, but I dreaded scoring it live. It was so difficult
The longer I follow this sport, and there are many who have followed it considerably longer, the more I realize declaring a winner in a fight can involve more than one declaration because "winning" isn't always obvious.
This fight is a perfect example. As far as punches thrown, landed, conceviably one guy hit the other guy with a greater amount of punches, and the judges have a 50/50% of getting that guy right... and that guy gets the decision. But as far as one guy beating the other guy? It was a draw. Neither man did anything to make him better than the opponent. Neither man established himself as better.

Those 8-4 cards seem harsh when you think about the fight as a whole at the end of it. But really there was so many close rounds that it’s not inconceivable you can score it 8-4 if you’re scoring round by round in real time, depending on who’s work you prefer. You said yourself there was only 2 rounds with a clear winner.
i would’ve been happy with a 7-5 either way or a draw. But if you say 7-5 for Fulton is fair, Then all you need to do is like his work better in one of the other rounds and there’s your 8-4.
It was just one of those fights where the rounds were subjective.
