Is there another example in boxing history where a fighter is criticized for moving up 2 weight classes to fight the #2 ranked fighter in that division?
I've noticed that there's quite a few people on here that are criticizing Canelo for fighting Makabu at Cruiserweight for his next fight.
Canelo's last fight was at Super Middleweight to unify all 4 belts, he's moving up two weight classes to fight the #2 ranked fighter (The Ring) and the WBC World Champion.
Has that ever happened before where it was criticized and considered a cherry pick? I can't think of any examples.
yeap, lol, but check Macabu's last fighters:
10-33
19-7
28-18, what a joke.
You're conning me, redhead, you're conning me!
His competition might be less than stellar sure. He's still a solid cruiserweight with power. And this is a tune-up for Canelo lol
Wrong fighter bro. How can Makabu defeat himself? Damn what a fraud

Mate you don't even have the capacity to post a screen shot of the right fighters boxrec page :lol1: You posted Eric Fields boxrec page dummy.

Technically, two. He fought la lo de for the lhw and the new smw.
Lalonde was at SMW (A new division)
So it's one weight class, not two. The fact the LHW title was on the line is irrelevant to the fact he moved up one weight class.
Actually, no they don't.
and Margarito wasn't ranked at 154, nor was he world champion at 154.
Leonard moved up 1 weight class (A new one) to fight a guy not ranked in the Top 5 in Lalonde.
Is there another example of a guy moving up 2 weight classes to fight the #2 ranked guy followed by criticism? Simple question.
Technically, two. He fought lalonde for the lhw and the new smw.
He's not moving two. He fought kovalev the drunken máster at 175, I think he got a belt too. Then came back down to 168 to fight those two bums, now he's going up again. Like I said, jumping up and down and cherry picking his way to the top.
He is literally moving up 2 weight classes.
The fact he's fought at 175 before is irrelevant.
Hid last fight was at 168, and his next fight is at Crusierweight. That's 2 weight classes that he's moving up.

Back when there were only 8 weight classes, going up one weight class was equivalent to going up two today. If that's on the table, then there are likely quite a few fights that would come into play.
List them then.
Can you name on when the fighter who jumped up a weight class in the 8 weight class era to fight the #2 ranked guy in the division above and it was subsequently criticized for being a cherry pick?
title said criticized, he received criticism on the forum. people said he cashed out and that he fought canelo because he couldnt bear to lose to brook at 147.
Read the OP mate, I'm asking a very simple question and I don't know how I can make it easier for you.

If Floyd had of fought the no special effects GGG at 160 it would have been a great win. The issue lies with whether the small man wants to take the risk. If a big man can hurt you with one punch how can you downplay win?
It seems like anything Floyd didn't dare do, Floyd fans put little value in it.? Only beating former light flyweights, with 70 fights under belt, not far removed from being koed is the mount Everest of achievements.?
Well we know Floyd fighting guys in their prime, unless it was a slow, flat footed, short armed, come forward fighter, was not happening, and you see how many excuses these Floyd boys come up with. Thousands of them.
Interesting idea, but I believe Usyk beats Joshua in a rematch and goes for Fury fight. Bigger challenge than moving down for Canelo.
Oh yeah if he beats AJ no doubt.
Good post. I would love to see Canelo/ Usyk for the bridgerweight title. That would be a monster fight.

yes i do, amir khan. they said he was cashing out and took that instead of fighting brook.
Firstly, not a single person called that a cherry pick.
Secondly, Amir Khan got knocked out cold.
Quite the dangerous fight to take wasn't it.
Looks like a tomato killer to me. Tried to step up against Belew and was Ko'd. LOL. **** Clenelo, the WBC and you dick riders.

Didn't canelo fought at lhw? The next stop is cw. So no, he didn't went up two divisions. He's jumping up and down finding the weak link in those weight classes.
His last fight was at Super Middleweight and his next fight is at Cruiserweight.
He is moving up 2 weight classes.
