After watching countless film and fights, I have concluded that Jaron Ennis is the most skilled out of everyone at 147. Let's breakdown exactly how great this kid is.
Jaron Ennis:
Power In Both Hands - (Sugar Ray Leonard Level) Argubally the hardest puncher at 147.
Really good defense - (potential to be on the level of Floyd, Looche, Pernell, Benevitez, and Toney). Head movement is superb and is exceptional at judging distance.
Counter Punching and Timing - Crawford and Thurman have an argument here. But it seems to me that Boots's timing is Roy Jones and Floyd Level. The way he is able to counter, create angles, and even punch through the tightest gaps gives him the edge.
Ability to switch stances/Switch hit - Argubally the greatest switch hitter I've seen since Hagler. Although Crawford is good at fighting in both stances, he sometimes seems out of sync when he's orthodox. He also has a tendency of getting countered when he switches southpaw. Unlike Crawford, Ennis has power in both hands when he switches, his defense is really good while in both stances, and he switches much smoother compared to Crawford (Crawford often times seems unbalanced)
.Footwork - Outside of Loma, Usyk, and GGG I would say Ennis has the best footwork. He is never off balanced and he does a tremendous job dashing in out of range to avoid jabs, straight rights, and hooks.
Athleticism - His athleticism is almost Roy Jones like. His feet are fast and he knows how to box off the back foot (which is extremely difficult to do).
Jab - Beautiful jab
Weaknesses:
The only weaknesses or questions marks I see is the fact that sometimes he drops his guard (this can be very dangerous against a puncher). Also, his chin has yet to be tested (How will he respond when he gets hit by a big puncher).
The advantages clearly outweigh the weaknesses. If I could do a comparisons he is a mix of Roy Jones and Pernell Whitaker. The kid hasn't even scratched the floor with his potential and I do see him becoming an elite defender and growing as an offensive fighter (which is pretty scary). As of right now, I think he is the most skilled Welter weight in the division and it is 50/50 against Spence and I would favor him against Crawford due to superior defense, power, size, athleticism and strength. Thoughts?
Because no one agrees with that opinion maybe? :lol1:
Lol..... I disagree. I'm seeing his reputation grow alot over the past months.
It's a difference between being the most skilled and proving to be the best which he hasn't yet
Why you just stating he’s the best and most skilled at 147, add 154, and 160, seriously.
Boots is the real deal and beats anyone from 147-160 right now. Skill wise he’s shown to have ATG skills and dude has that killer instinct. He murks anyone at this point.
He last fight vs that 140lbs guy should have convinced everyone or his fight with that killer Lipinets or his win vs that master boxer Chris Van Herdon.
Boots has a resume that should put all questions to rest.
Dude is an certified ATG in his early stages. Enjoy
Damn, you almost had me hook, line and sinker with the "best from 147-60" line, was practically foaming at the mouth ready to reply lol.....yea dude is flashing some skill in there but the praise is getting ridiculous in relation to who he's actually beaten so far. For all we know he might not even get past the best at 147 let alone 2 weight classes up.
Ennis is a super Saipan 3 version of Crawford
I think Ennis can beat Spence and Crawford right now. He is THAT good and talented for sure. But it won't be easy for him and he will have to dig deep to beat both guys.
Spence is one of those fighters that will always look less than the sum of his parts from outside the ring compared to inside the ring. He's never going to get outclassed and will be in every fight. Great jab, always in position to punch, good chin, strong, controls the distance well and knows how to cut the ring off. I laugh seeing people thinking it is a forgone conclusion that Crawford beats him. That's a pick-em fight between two top level fighters.
BUT, you already know what I feel about Ennis so I am not going to repeat myself here lol.

well that is to be determined
physically the most talented? maybe!
Been high on Boots for years so I'm watching his bandwagon fill up with new fans now jumping on which his great BUT lets slow down, he still have to prove all this in the ring vs Top Level Competition. Since he likely won't get a shot at the Top Guys yet because he is not in Mandatory Position just yet, then trying to take that other WBA Belt from Radzhab Butaev would be a great fight and test for him to see how he deals with Butaev relentless pressure and power. After that then with some sort of Belt around his waist, they can't deny him anymore
Mixture of Roy Jones and Pernell Whitaker? :lol1: Wow.
Pump the breaks. I think Ennis has alot of potential but that is just an insane assertion there based on nothing.
Let's not forget once upon a time Mike Jones was considered the next big thing, Jeff Lacy, the list goes on. Fighters need to show something at the top level before making these assumptions.
Look at Adrien Broner, the media branded him "The new Floyd but better" when he was age 23. Granted, they should have known better when he had razor close fights with Quntero and Ponce De Leon and definitely when he arguably lost to Pauli. But, it's the same premise.
Ennis needs to be tested against Top 10 opponents, so far he's fought none.

These are career defining questions. Fail them and you are not beating the top dogs.
You make a good and well put together argument. I like his fighting style. I still need to see him against Spence or Crawford, or at least Porter, Garcia, or Ortiz before I fully agree with you. Good post though.

I completely agree mate, good post.
You’re confusing potential with present. There’s no way we can say he’s anywhere near Floyd or Roy in regards to talent right now. He doesn’t have the same amateur pedigree, or professional resume, at 28-0 Roy had schooled B-Hop and Toney. Whilst Floyd had had like 10 world title fights. As I said man you’re getting carried away with the comparisons, I think you need some perspective about who Ennis is looking spectacular against. Once he starts performing like he has been against the top level fighters then we can make these sort of ATG comparisons.
What element is flawed about them though? Are you saying Crawford’s defence is flawed? I’d strongly contest that. As for Spence, I wouldn’t say he’s a straightforward fighter at all. He has multiple dimensions to his game.

His talent is on the level of Floyd and Roy Jones due to his speed and athleticism. Spence is a straightforward fighter who can be outboxed and Crawford gets hit way too much. Ennis has some growing to do but he is not as flawed as the other two. Put it this way, if Floyd at 147 was to fight all three, I would give Ennis the best chance, due to the fact that he is a blend of both Crawford and Spence. He can switch counter, fight in the pocket, and he can cut off the ring effectively.

I like Ennis but when you look at his record his two best wins are against Lipinits and Dulorme. I think he is top 3 at welter but we'll have to wait and see when he steps up.

Damn bro you are going for my jugular this morning. Firstly Crawford does everything better than Floyd, now this? GGG has the best footwork? I like Ennis but lets slow down a tad..... As for the best switch hitter since Hagler c'mon. My switch hitting skills against beginners is mesmerising also. means nothing if there is not a credible opponent in front of you to make you pay
