Plant did a better job than I thought he would. I expected canelo to take him out in 5 but up until the 11th, plant had good moments, where he made canelo miss and made canelo look slow and won some rounds.
Plant would have continued fighting if allowed.
He is definitely not a bum as most are labeling him here.:confused:
Meh,
Plant fought to spoil and go 12. At no point did he attempt to win the fight or even the round. Lots of guys can make it deep if they take no chances.
Saunders is a similar style, but fought to win.
Low output, no power. Plant gets little credit from me.
Wouldn't be surprised if he drops a decision to a C-level fighter in his next bout.

Plant was slept on leading up to the fight. He's a good boxer but people who were hard Canelo fans were completely blindsided by his skill. Plant could have fought on but the ref did the right thing. I wanted Plant to win but in my heart, I kind of knew Canelo would win by KO around round 10. Hopefully, Plant still has hope cause I would love to see Plant come back for a rematch in the future.
I was disappointed in Plant. Canelo was darn near letting him have the first half of the fight but he wouldn't commit to throwing anything of consequence. I honestly don't remember him sitting down on a single punch. There were times I thought maybe his right hand was broken because he just refused to throw it despite having many opportunities to do so. He kept trying to be Mayweather in doing that catch and shoot with his right hand (he was successful a few times) but only Floyd is Floyd, he should have just been himself. In a fight like that (the fight of your life) you need to leave it all out there on the table. This dude's plan was to bank rounds trying to box knowing full well Floyd himself got a draw on one card despite dominating the entire fight. Didn't use his jab enough, I thought he would step to Canelo (cause you know that's what Ward advised him to do, you step TO punchers) but he was on the backfoot 90% of the fight. I've seen his inside game, it's nice, but he didn't even want to go that route. He looked nervous in the walk-out and in the ring before the fight. I know Canelo touched on that when talking about the Floyd fight in saying that it's different on that big stage. Maybe the moment got to him, I don't know. But it's over and he lost
People are making too much of Plant going 11. After the 6th it was obvious Plant was way to defensive.
If you watch Floyd vs. Canelo, Floyd threw 1st and his lead 2 kept Canelo off balance. Plant went straight defense everytime. The shoulder roll is only effective if you make your opponent think twice about coming forward.
Very true. Even in the 10th round plant put some combinations together and boxed well. Plant's conditioning also failed him towards the later rounds, but canelo's bodyshots were taking a toll by that time.
Yeah Canelo began to beat the fight out of him.
Plant fought to survive not to win. He used that philly shell but he used it to survive, he was not countering out of it like a floyd, hopkins or toney. He was scared to get hit from canelos power. He would have lasted 12 rounds if canelo didnt press him really hard and specifically go for the knockout. shows how strong canelo's resolve is, round after round he never gave up his goal, working to break down this bum. He was waaay up on points but he wanted to punish him for talking chit. If you notice the big left hook that finally ended it, plant got tired and as a result let his chin hang out there with no support, untucked and not protected by the right hand. Canelo saw this and had a ton of energy left even in the late rounds, that is why he threw that leaping left hook to get in there in that window of opportunity that plant forgot his defensive minded surive to 12 at all cost mentality.
If your opponent doesnt care about winning but only suriving, it can be very hard to hurt them. Look at spence- mikey garcia and people mad that spence didnt knock him out but mikey only wanted to get through the fight with the least amount of damage not even trying to win. Same with plant, after he tasted canelo's power and some of his show boating techniques didnt land, he went into survival mode, thinking about that big pay check and how he just has to get through tonight and he can buy a mansion with the money canelo got him.
Plant is a horrible fighter to watch. he throws 4 punches a round doesnt hit hard enough and is unwilling to engage
His style is not the most fan friendly and he lacks power, but his game plan was to move and he did good in some rounds, made canelo look silly actually.
Plant boxed very well for 5-6 rounds. But by that point Canelo had figured out his movements, offensive patterns and began to time him. He began landing the left hook consistently and it was only a matter of time.
