It is clear how bias you are. How reliant Boxing is on jingoism??? Boxing is the sport that has been around for over a century. "The people who watch ufc do so because they like mma." The people who watch Boxing are not Boxing fans???
I would say a higher proportion of people that watch boxing are the kind of people that only watch when a Canelo/GGG, Fury/Wilder etc type fight happens. I think its also much more based on select demographics, especially in more recent times as mainstream interest in boxing as a whole has waned. There arent Tyson, Floyd, Ali level global stars anymore. The biggest stars in the sport by far are Canelo, AJ and Fury, coincidentally all from two countries that are super jingoistic and where boxing has maintained an uncharacteristic level of mainstream interest.
What am I being biased about? the Canelo card sucking in comparison? am I wrong?
I understand the sport started in the 90's. That is not true about making a better living in mma than Boxing. Check with John Nash on this topic. He has done extensive research on this topic and Boxing pays more at every stage and especially at the top.
Yeah I dont buy this at all. The UFC currently has about 800 fighters signed out of an entire pro talent pool of maybe 10k (boxing is at least double that). Then you add to that that MMA fighters generally dont have extensive amateur careers and dont need to have too many pro fights before getting on the radar. Basically, your chances of making it in MMA are going to be far higher than in boxing, and the path from entering a gym for the first time to that point will probably be a lot quicker
Also, like I said before, UFC pay has increased a ton in a relatively short space of time, and will likely continue to do so. I expect it will be seven figures as standard for top fighters in the 2030s. I dont think anyone will be getting Canelo money though, and if they did it probably wouldnt be good for the sport anyway. Having to spend $50m to make a fight like Canelo/Plant doesnt exactly sound like a recipe for regular stacked cards.

100% this brother! UFC and Dana White are the biggest piles of dogsh!t in the fighting industry. Their fighters make pennies compared to what boxers or even YouTuber's make. It's quite sickening honestly. Where does all the money go? I've always wanted to know. UFC is either grossly overpaying for broadcasting fees or they are robbing their fighters of good paydays.
I think the true gauge is the PPV sales. I'd bet my 401k that the UFC event destroys the Canelo-Plant event. And believe me, I'm a much bigger boxing fan then I am a UFC fan. I just know the card for UFC is the event of the year.
If Canelo was Swedish nobody would give a ****, same with AJ and Fury with the UK fanbase, and those are the three biggest stars in boxing today. It highlights how reliant boxing is on jingoism to generate interest, rather than actual quality. The people watching the UFC will be doing so because its a good show and they like MMA.
It makes perfect sense. Its a sport that essentially started in the 90s, and only started getting big in the 2nd half of the 00s, the paydays have already roughly tripled since then too.
Boxing pay is deceptive because its -1% of the talent pool getting paid insane amounts and those are the paydays we hear about. But you probably have a higher chance of making a decent living in MMA than boxing.
And you think that makes boxing look good? I dont.

You do realize the country of Mexico (130 million) will literally stop to watch the Canelo fight.

One thing I will never understand is fans claiming how huge ufc is but how the fighters get paid terribly. That would be like someone saying how important and how big of a role their job is but get paid very little. Makes no sense imo.

Caleb Plant will make more than the entire ufc card combined.

And now the weigh in for the UFC event is getting tens of thousands more viewers while live (and its still going up) than the Canelo/Plant one has an hour after ending lol.
Thats because tickets are more expensive. Canelo/GGG 1+2 both did bigger live gates than any UFC event ever either though Conor/Khabib did as many PPV buys as both of those fights combined. Its not the best indicator of how much interest there is in a fight.
The UFC should raise the prices then.
I love boxing but the UFC card is way better and stacked. If you watch both sports and say otherwise, you're an idiot. Canelo vs Plant isn't even a good fight. Plant is trash and going to run all night until he gets stopped. It's an easy belt for Canelo. He already slapped up Plant at a press conference. The speed, skill and IQ difference is tremendous between Canelo and that wannabe black bum. Conte's SNAC has nothing on Mexican meat. The undercard is trash. Boxing PPV has been hot garbage overall for a long ass time.
Exactly. Preferring boxing and not following MMA is one thing, but if you're a fan of both sports or just wanna watch some fights its pretty fucking hard to justify watching the Canelo card over the UFC card, especially if you are actually paying for it. Its obvious one is vastly superior to the other both in depth and also in the entertainment value its likely to provide. The UFC is full of big fights that could go either way, Canelo card is a one fight card and that one fight has Canelo as a heavy favourite who on top of that will have the judges on his side in case things dont go as expected.
I’m a hardcore boxing fan and mma casual but that UFC fight is stacked and intriguing. Miss the days of actually watching a decent undercard on a boxing PPV.

he knows this. He's just trolling right now
You're a clown.
Usman is widely considered the most boring fighter in the sport. It's not even debatable. Yeah he gets a KO once in a blue moon, but everybody knows what's his forte and that is wrestling.
Yes he's a great MMA fighter but that doesn't translate into generating buzz and excitement for his fights.
He's the Andre Ward of boxing.
Yes, I'm looking forward to Gaethje vs Chandler. And that's about it. After the fight is done I'm switching back to the Canelo card, and I don't think I will be the only one.
"once in a blue moon" like both of his fights this year, both within 3 rounds, and now hes rematching someone whos jaw he broke and who he stopped the first time in a 2019 FOTY contender.
Usman/Covington 2 has no buzz and excitement? really? why has the first fight got 5.5m views on Youtube 2 weeks after the UFC uploaded it then? why does the 268 press conference have like double the views of the Canelo/Plant press conference when its been up less than half as long?
All this shit about how Usman is boring etc, you and I both know the UFC card is going to provide far more action than the Canelo card.
You're talking about UFC shills trying to fool people and then come out with this BS.
Usman is a world champ, p4p no1 and not far off entering GSP territory. You're talking about him being boring but then wasnt the first fight with Colby considered to be one of the best fights of 2019? didnt Usman completely obliterate Burns earlier this year and then hand Jorge his first KO loss since 2008 a couple of months after that? isnt there a ton of bad blood in this fight?
This is pretty much a triple main event card + Edgar/Chito could easily main event a Fight Night too, then theres Pereiras debut. You just admitted yourself that you're most hyped for the opening fight of the PPV, doesnt that clearly illustrate that its stacked? what are you smoking m8?

No, it's not 'meh' compared to any other card, it's a 'meh' card, period.
LOL at you pretending like people are dying to watch Kamaru Usman. He's about as exciting as Anthony Dirrell that you mentioned.

Yeah, its a "meh" card compared to hours and hours of Anthony Dirrell and Elvis Rodriguez vs Juan Pablo Romero

Don't let the butthurt UFC shill in this thread fool you.
Nobody is particularly excited about Usman and women fights. Usman is the most boring fighter on the roster inside and outside the ring, the women fight is well, a fight beetwen women. Plus both these fights are rematches nobody asked for.
The only good fight on that card is Gaethje vs Chandler. Other than that that card is meh.
you're insane.
