I'll say it right now: Teofimo Lopez is being a little bi†ch by telling lies and making excuses on not giving a rematch to Lomachenko.
Here's what he said:
He's just trying to fight my left overs and he's just trying to come back and redeem himself. You know, it's kind of cute that everyone thinks he's going to get me again. Everything I look now is that we're past that and looking at bigger and better things like the Taylors and those guys.
If you do rematch him do you ....
There is no rematch. There is no rematch . There's no rematch. Had I lost they would have never given me the opportunity at all, so why do I have to rematch him. I'm not doing that.
This kid is a PUNK. There was no rematch clause in the contract sent to both guys, and no one requested one out of pride. Arum, out of his own mouth, said he doesn't do rematch clauses, leaving it up to the boxers later on. So he sent out contracts that didn't have a rematch clause.
Having Lopez presume that Loma wouldn't give him a rematch is ludicrous. Does Lopez have a crystal ball that lets him see into the hearts and minds of others, to see into the future on what someone will or will not do? It's absolutely absurd.
He's ducking Loma now after Loma showed Lopez that he was outclassed. We all saw the last half of the fight. We all saw that Lopez couldn't hit the side of a barn with Loma in the ring. And we all saw Lopez's head constantly bouncing off of his back!
He want's to fight Taylor. But Taylor doesn't want to fight Lopez. Taylor said he's NOT going to fight Lopez, and Lopez doesn't have any leverage to make the fight. He had leverage to make the fight with Loma. But now with Josh, what does he have? A super belt? Great. Josh doesn't want to beat a 135 pounder. He wants to fight Crawford. He wants to move up.
So Teofimo is going to leave the hottest division in boxing to go fight someone that is leaving the 140 pound division. Say what?! He's above fighting Haney. He's above fighting Tank. He's above fighting Garcia. He's above fighting any of the ranked fighters in the most stacked division in boxing.
That win over Loma was a fluke! A one-armed Loma with extremely biased/corrupt judging. The fight was a draw. I want this kid to get a beat down now.
What does everyone think?
You should watch it.
Lomachenko outboxed him for a contested 6 rounds. Once Lomachenko decided to actually fight.
No crying over spilt milk. It's Loma's fault for not doing s.hit for 6 rounds straight and/or going into the ring with a preexisting injury. So, he has to take the L on his chin for being foolish.
But Lopez would likely get beat in a rematch. Just from the eye test in the first go. You can't get completely boxed up for the entire 2nd half of the fight and not be suspect.
That's why Lopez won't do a rematch. Not as it stands. Because he doesn't want to risk taking the L that is very feasible.
But they may come together sooner or later anyways. Nobody is trying to fight each other in the division, so eventually the orgs might force their collision.
The Bolded: IMO Is The real problem. I don't see Loma and Teo as anything more than a part of this picture. What happened was, you have a group of fighters that need to establish some pecking order: Tank, Hanney, Garcia, Teo, I might be missing a few. These are young guys who will grow, move out of the division, some will have incidental problems, like Garcia, etc. Well... Teo took a leap and landed without a splat... defeating the great Loma. So Teo is now like a guy with a gold nugget on pawn shop row, trying to cash that nugget out at the best price... To Teo? The central existential question is not the meaning of life... It is what is it worth? beating a great fighter? What currency does it present?
What Teo is finding is that in a division where guys want to maintain at all costs, being promoted to avoid each other, encourages by the likes of Mayweather who has basically said "Tank will not be fighting outside who we promote" and with Arum who always destroyed big fights, until they absolutely had to happen... it means NOTHING that he beat Loma.
Now try to see it from this kid's perspective shall we? " Hey kid, great job, now do it again for a payday!" Really? "So what did it do for me the first time cause I sure know what it will do if I lose..."
Its not Teo's problem, and I don't care what a potential sham job he may/may not be... These guys are not fighting each other and will probably fight out of the division, and get knocked off by other circumstances way before they come a cropper of each other. Teo is right back where he started from: One of a group of talented young guys who are being kept away from each other.
If I was in Teo's situation I would grow out strong, get set up at 140 and above ASAP, and wait for the others to come up... None of these kids have the support, or the will to do what Andrey Ward did, and what he is preparing Plant to try to do, against Canelo who rightly wants undisputed status in a weight class. Clean the division out and make others come up and have to get by you. Teo can start fighting the big names now... test his fortunes against the likes of Regis P, Taylor, etc and let 130 stay dormant. If Loma wants him so much move up in weight and challenge him.
There will be a rematch, when the WBC or whatever belt Lopez holds 'Makes Lomachenko a mandatory his defense'.
I think since his win vs Lomachenko, Lopez really has not been a good champion. I have no idea what his issue is a rematch?
The rematch will be a bigger fight than the first fight.
I think he knows it's a more dangerous fight for him than the others. And he has something to lose now. It's easy when there's not much to lose. But he has all the belts, and that's enough to make him scared. I know it's true because the moment a man makes up excuses, then he's afraid. He could have said, "I just don't want to fight him again." Instead, he's saying "because he would have never given me a rematch." And that's simply not true. He also couldn't possibly know what Loma would or wouldn't do since he's not Loma.

Arum said there wasn't one. He didn't say why.
Teo Sr. taunted Loma to remove it before the fight.
That's not true. Arum did say why. Not only does every news article on this matter say there was never a rematch clause, Arum himself, after being asked "Why is there no rematch clause, and whose decision was that," had this to say in an interview with Arum and Loma: "Let me answer that. I don't believe in rematch clauses. Rematch clauses are, in essence, over used thanks to our friend Eddie Hern. He puts a rematch clause in every contract, and that may indicate that he's not confident in how his fighter will perform. As far as I'm concerned, let them fight. There will be a winer and a loser, and if down the road they want a rematch, that's up to them."
Source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GsqN1PGt2z0
So you see, Arum said it was he who determined that there was no rematch clause. It was his decision and no one else. And Loma himself had stated that he did not request a rematch clause because of words he heard from Teofimo's father in an interview, that he wasn't confident that he could win. So Loma said fine, I won't "fight for one."
That's the truth of the matter. So Lopez saying Loma would never have given him one is a load of shit. And that's why Teofimo is ducking. He doesn't have a good reason to not fight Loma, so he has to make shit up. That's a clear sign Teofimo is shook.
At one point they were not so assertive in not rematching him. Loma might be the highest purse that they can get and money talks. The more they say no the more they are going to get.
I know man! This kid is acting as if he shocked himself, as if he never believed he would win, and now he's terrified to make a move. Calling out Taylor as he is just seem so damn premature. And it's nothing in his near future considering what Taylor's plans are. If he fights Taylor, then I'll eat crow. But that's not likely to happen. It's very unlikely to happen.
Let's see this kid put Kambosos Jr. to sleep because if he can't get Kambosos out of there in the first half of the fight, the last half of the fight is going to extremely dangerous for Lopez. Kambosos does not stop. He's got an engine in him that just keeps going. And because of that he hits just as hard in the 12th round as he does in the first. Lopez loses his pop later in the fight, so then he's going to have to out punch Kambosos who throws combination and combination.
I'm eager for that fight but Lopez needs to get his feelings out of the way. He really has some mental hangup with Loma. And now I'm seeing it as fear. He knows that he can lose in the rematch. That's what many are saying right now, even fans of Teofimo, which I am.
Do me a favor brother, please stop schooling these dunba$$ on here. Loma would wreck Teo this time around. Period :boxing:

Well Teofimo Sr said it wouldn’t be a problem doing a rematch. I specifically recall during one of the recent boxing events Sr said he could talk his son into a rematch. What a helluva Dad, Trainer and Management if you can’t even sway your own diva, I mean son. Second time around and Loma schools Teo Jr.
You should watch it.

The orgs have no power over some fighters. Not many fighters respect them. Look at the crappy situation with Haney and his mandatories. The WBA cannot order Davis to fight anyone or their bogus belts get dropped. The orgs flex on less to do boxers.

Personally, I was more shocked at how classy Teo looked. His inexperience showed the last half (gassed out). I think they should fight again.
I think Teo would win though. Younger and still improving and all.
I agree with a lot of what you say here. Definitely Loma’s fan base is larger across the sea. But at the same time, aside from some heavyweights, that’s true for almost every boxer. Boxing has had its audience dwindle here because the newer generations are being drawn to MMA when they would have been watching boxing. For a lot of MMA fans, they believe boxing sucks. I’ve been watching boxing since I was a little kid, sitting with my grandfather. So I’ve seen the sea change. Plus everything that is a meaningful fight is put behind a PPV shield. And that’s hurting boxing too. But I digress.
I hear what you are saying, but other networks would pick it up. I think it’s easily a PPV fight. And I wouldn’t mind Loma fighting Tank next or soon. But Tank has turned down that fight for five years and counting. Is that going to change? I don’t know. I do know that the Loma and Lopez fight is becoming more and more intriguing, and I believe there’s unfinished business. I don’t see why we can’t have both a Loma vs Lopez fight, and then a Loma vs Tank fight. And a Lopez vs Haney fight.
To be honest, I think if Loma and Lopez fight again, it’s going to be a trilogy. Lopez will make sure there’s a rematch clause.
I think so as well.
It would be great for boxing I feel.
When is the last time we had a good boxing rivalry? Pacquiao-Marquez?
That's probably the last great one. Everyone else will maybe provide a rematch but that's it, at the most.

I can respect your opinion on the PPV thing. I just don't see it that way.
Can you source the bold? Because that's a big lie told around here.
Not talking about you specifically. If anything, Floyd is the culprit and the bitch.
You should watch it.

I'd say 4 rounds. Loma lost the first 7th plus 12.
I've always maintained that this fight would NEVER happen. Here is Lopez telling you exactly the same. No need for a rematch since the first fight was neither close nor that exciting, IMO. I personally wouldn't even watch it.
If Loma fans want this fight out of Loma's pride and redemption, I could care less about that. And, by the way, Arum can't do crap about that.
I had the fight same as Julie Lederman. Maybe I'd give Loma two rounds max, in retrospect.
You should watch it.

You can do your own research. There was an article about it on Boxingscene.com right after the fight.
Okay you lazy bum ;-) I did look and I’ve actually found the opposite of what you are saying. I find articles supporting what I’m saying.
Ok, bro, but I have a couple of things to say.
First, I'm no longer a Loma hater, and I actually want him to succeed before he retires. Boxing is a brutal sport and Loma's bones are ready for a rest. His last couple of fights had injury controversies. One big fight and he can go out. Enter Davis. I hope it happens. That's a big PPV fight. The one and only for Loma. Loma calls it his mega fight. He sees money.
Second, Loma and Lopez will NEVER be a PPV worthy fight. It couldn't cut it when it was fresher and more intriguing. If ESPN wouldn't have chipped in, fight wouldn't have happened. Top Rank didn't have the right kinda money and PPV was not an option. They explored the market. It'd have flopped big. ESPN reluctantly bended, due to fan pressure.
Lopez doesn't even have 50,000 real fans, my generous estimate, and Loma was never as big as his fans think, in the US. Globally, Loma is more known, and even in the US, than Lopez. He's not that big in the US, tho. Lopez's PPV ticket sales are doing so bad, Triller can't even stick to a date, despite their big musical supplemental plans. The answer: Nobody cares about Lopez. Nothing against Loma.
I maintained Loma-Lopez isn't PPV worthy. Now, it's NOT even a consideration. Arum is too smart for that.
Conclusion: Move on.

Let’s hope he beats the Aussie kid cause if not Loma is gonna be in the driver seat again. All these postponements are not a good look and with all this time
going by the win over Loma is slowly fading into the background. Especially is Loma keep whooping people like he did Nakatani.
I would watch the rematch for sure.
After Loma had an easier time with a common opponent, Lopez wants no part of any rematch. Look for him to follow Tanks formula of finding shot or over-matched fighters to pad his resume. Mark my words, the first loss this guy suffers will be debilitating. He won't be able to handle it emotionally or mentally. He's another Oliver McCall waiting to happen.
Lopez already beats Loma's ass, aint nobody scared of that hype job. Loma just doesn't deserve to handed opportunities like he's some mega star. He's an average fighter that has to earn his shots. It's back of the line.
