A lot of things are predictable it doesn't mean you can stop them happening.
It does if your going against Crawford. You just cant be that predictable with him.
Look at Loma and how he picks people apart, cause their predictable, but Teo ISNT predictable. Teo knew where Loma was going and fired there and hit him. That time LOMA was predictable.
U cant let Loma have those angles. Teo stole them from him.
I think that is what makes Ortiz special coupled with decent fundamentals and ability is his anger. His intensity.
Its almost prime Tyson esque.
That anger, that hatred is something so few people have or lose when they get hit, they'll calm down. You hit this mofo he gets angrier.
We can talk about defense and being smart etc but you have to realise when it gets to this firstly he is still being defensively responsible and not abandoning his fundamentals or neglecting the basics plus they are then fighting him at his own game. That is his strength and their ultimate weakness.
They don't have the size, power, the head, the stamina, the ferocity to stand with this guy or to have a dog fight.
I really hope RG doesn't try tame him and take away what makes him so dangerous. Yes he can box but its not what makes him so effective and problematic.
The guys an animal that is why we love him and that is what if anything will get him to the top.
If he fights like his usual self then I give him some sort of shot but if he tries being technical and fights a slower paced boxing match then I feel that just plays into Crawfords hands.
If he comes out behind the jab looking to box and take his time I think Crawford will pick him apart.
If he fights like he usually does coming in behind that long, raking jab and fighting with such intensity and is absolutely relentless with his pressure and doesn't allow Crawford time to think and set traps and shows almost a disregard for his skills and ability I think he cause all sorts of problems.
A lot will say that Ortiz needs to be more technical, use his jab fight long and be more defensively responsible and all that but against a lot of the top WWs I don't think that is the best form of action. Its his workrate, an unusual intensity - this guy just sees red, he is a cold blooded killer and that is what makes him so good.
Its his pressure, intelligent pressure behind that stiff, hard jab, that workrate and not letting his opponent think or breathe that is what makes him special. Its that these guys are going to really struggle with. Being forced to fight at a pace they're not used to, being maneuvered (sp) and having to deal with punches in bunches to head and body.
You've got to stick it on someone Crawford otherwise you just end up playing into his hands.
It's a great fight and can see it going both ways. Kava, the guy who's been in there with both, stated Vergil is more powerful and has a far better jab than Bud and I suspect a sturdier chin than him as well. He took that hard clean uppercut from Kava in the 2nd pretty well, stunned but didn't lose his legs or anything and went back into that fire, although that could've cost him. Corner gave him great instructions in between those rounds and told him he "has to be smarter" and to set up Kava instead of getting into a fire fight which is exactly what he did. Great power, hard piston like jab like Gennady, good ring IQ,youth,hunger....so yea I'd say he has as good a shot as anyone ton pull it off....future is bright for Ortiz!
Virgil has a fantastic jab, speed, accuracy and power. Got to see him with someone that can move to see how he cuts the ring and how effective his output will be. But he has enough skills to go at Crawford at this point. He listened to his corner after getting buzzed and had the right punch selection.
This thread is a clear case of over reaction coupled with hate.
Vergil is a good up and coming boxer but he isn’t ready for Crawford. Posters do this weird thing where they judge all of Crawford’s opponents by his ww resume.
Crawford dominated indongo and postol when they were more proven world class fighters than Vergil.
Too many posters judge those wins where those guys are now, not where they were when they fought him.
I think that is a mistake.
Crawford and Ortiz both had a hard time with Kavaliauskas.
Is Kavaliauskas actually good or are Crawford and Ortiz overrated? I wonder how would Pacquiao, Spence or Porter deal with Mean machine.
Mean Machine is not a 12 round fighter. I said that during the Crawford fight he gassed badly by the end of round 5. Mean Machine has decent timing and above average pop on his punches. He is slow of foot with average handspeed, and his body is as soft as a marshmallow and his stamina is dogshit.
Spence would handily beat him due to his body attack qnd unlimited gas tank, more likely stop him earlier than Crawford or Ortiz did because he focuses on the body the entire fight, Crawford didn't start focusing on his.body until around round 5 and Ortiz didn't until round 6, but as soon as you attack Mean Machine's body he is gonna go down. Pac and Porter would simply overwhelm him Mean Machine wouldn't be able to keep up with them.
I could see Mean Machine being a very tough night at the office for Danny Garcia maybe, he could beat Ugas maybe. I just don’t think the guy is built to be a 12 round fighter at the championship level. All the flaws he showed against Splenda Ray Robinson are still there and apparently aren't going anywhere, he is a 6 round fighter.
- -Be harder for Verg to sign Bud than it would be to beat him. Bud the latest PrimaDonna in boxing...

I would like to see if Ortiz can establish his jab against Crawford's southpaw stance. Brook was busting Crawford up with his piston jab and as soon as Crawford turned southpaw it got neutralized.
I like Ortiz. Hard to say if he is ready but he has time on his side. Skills and talent, I think he's ready but perhaps a bit more experience and seasoning would benefit him. Perhaps a fight with someone who is a durable boxer that could extend him the distance would be beneficial.
One of the problems with guys who have overwhelming offensive skills and stop everybody is that they rob themselves of certain learning experiences early in their development. I'd think I'd like to know how it feels to go into the championship rounds before I am doing it with a guy like Crawford or Spence.

I've seen alot of people, to include boxing writers, say they think Mean Machine is either underrated or overrated.
I think he's a very tough opponent because of his technique, timing, strength and power. He looks for a punch or mistake to counter and then launches an attack.
He's willing to go out on his shield which means he will have his moments in fights, even against the top level of opposition, but will ultimately get stopped.
Ray Robinson was able to outbox MM, Zewski was able to do the same before he got tired, sloppy and was clipped.
I personally don't think he is ready for Crawford. I also think the Garcia's are trash trainers. Virgil need to go to team Canelo and learn head movement and a little more polished body work.
If Virgil does this he'll be unstoppable.
